I think that 100x100 is too small, escapally when people put their character's names in the picture. I suggest that it's changed to 300x300, because that's still small, but not too small, or at least make it 200x200.

Role-playing thread guidelines (Edited on 1/17/10):

    1. Each role-playing group should only have ONE thread.

There’s no need to have separate sign-up and actual role-playing threads. It’s wasting space and creating a lot of unnecessary clutter.

In a few days, all sign-up/registration threads will be deleted, so please be sure to copy any information that you’d like to hold on to.

    2. Similar threads ARE ALLOWED to co-exists.

Meaning, if one group has already started a vampire coven thread, another group CAN still start another vampire coven thread.

*Why? Because role-play threads are like stories in a lot of ways. We wouldn't limit the amount of certain types of stories because they are written differently. Same goes for RP threads. You can have the same characters but when the group involved changes, the thread won’t turn out the same. So it’s okay. :)

    3. Pictures cannot exceed 100x100 pixels in size.

If your Role-Playing thread includes character pictures (that are being posted as the role-play moves along), the size of the picture being used cannot be any bigger than 100x100 pixels.

http://i47.tinypic.com/2wn4ktv.jpg <- No bigger than this.

Also, if you've started a thread and it doesn't work out or your RP comes to an end, as a courtesy, please report the thread so it can be locked and then deleted.

    This will help reduce clutter.

Role-playing thread recommend guidelines (NOT rules, just suggestions)

Here’s just a list of things I think other RPers would appreciate (from the complaints I’ve notice around the site).

Things that should be included in the RPs first post:

    - A clear and concise overview of what the RP will be about.
    - A clear list of who (both the character name and the member’s name) is involved in the RP.
    - A mention of what kind of RP it will be – whether it’s an RP where short and small responses are acceptable or if it’s an RP that requires paragraph-like responses.

*If you have any other suggestions, post 'em.

Remember that it’s up you to moderate your own RPs, to make sure that the players involved follow the rules you set up.

That's all. Have fun with your RPs!
Just posting for the people who don't read the first post. :)

You don't have to re-do the past photos, just the ones you're posting now. If you need to resize a photo. You can use tinypic.com or photobucket.com or simply use your computer's default image program (I think that's either Paint or Picture Manager on Windows). Whichever website you're hosting the images on (I know you're hosting it on something, since you're using the IMG code to post them on the RPs to start with), has an editing tool in which you can use to resize the photo.
Still, I feel it might be difficult for some who don't yet have the hang of those sites. The thing I like about roleplaying on this site is how easy it is. I just think it might put a few people off joining if they have to resize pictures all the time.

Also, one question I just thought of: when posting character profiles do the images have to be 100x100 or can they be their original sizes until the roleplay starts?

Audrey, I'm not trying to kick up a fuss or instigate or be difficult, but please hear me out. I've read most of the argument for the resizing on the Suggestions thread. I don't disagree, and yes, large pictures are quite annoying, but 100x100 is still really, really tiny.

    Example:

    Image
It's very hard for me to make out features/eye color, etc, in this image.

    Image
But it's perfectly fine in this.

Could we please just knock it up to 200x200? I'm sure it wouldn't take up that much more bandwidth, and it would make things easier on the RP-ers, who are affected most by this rule.

^ Sorry, but it's 100x100. Higher than that is just too big, especially since these photos are being posted EVERYTIME a person speaks/post. Of course, in the first post - if the person in charge of the RP has a characters' list - they can put the full-sized photos there, but for the actual RP-posting, it needs to be 100x100.

When posting the character profiles, it can be the full-sized. That's no problem.

It's fairly easy to do after the first try. Very short learning curve, so it won't be that hard to get the hang of it. Trust me, if I can learn to re-size a photo, anyone can. And on the off chance that a person just can't learn it, I'm sure their fellow RPers would be more than willing to lend a hand and resize the photo for them, since it takes less than a minute to do so.

Also, photos for your characters isn't MANDATORY. So if it's too much trouble, you can always go without.

Can I ask why you've made this rule up? Because really, it seems rather pointless to me.

Yeah.. I really do think 100x100 is way to small. I for one can't use anything on my computer to change that..

The amount of RPs with huge photos being posted all the time has grown and it's just taking up too much space. The photos in itself are bordering on spam to begin with, because it's the same image being repeated over and over and over again. But it's understood that the images do make it easier for RPers so we're simply saying to resize the photos, rather than just lumping it in as spam and banning it altogether.

Which program are you hosting your image on? The place where you get the IMG code so that you can post on the boards?

Is 200x200 really considered huge though?

Well for that I have to save the picture on my computer, and I use my mom's computer which she won't let me save anything. I used tinypic but like I said, I have to save the picture to the computer.

And for photoshop windows, it's the same so.. Basically, for this rule i'll probably won't be able to roleplay anymore because of my pictures.

Just look at the vast difference in size between what you posted before? It's just too big, especially for something that's being posted repeatedly.

So then make it 150? 100 is just too small.

The RP threads are already dieing, and we're going to lose so many people because of this rule. I'm sorry, but it's just hurting us. I understand that the images take up space, but there are also threads like the Wallpapers/Banners threads, Icons/Avatars threads, and Story Banners threads. If we have to resize all of our images, shouldn't they have to resize everything, too?

I don't mean to sound childish, but it feels like the lot of us are being punished because three or four people were upset that they couldn't search for their own usernames without our images popping up.

Again, here, the pictures need to be resized because of the frequency of their use and how much there is. I'm sorry you feel that way, but RPing isn't about pictures, and if people doing it because of that, then it's really their lose.

I think it might be easier if we didn't have a post your picture in every post type thing. I've done it in RPs (Which I may change for the sake of convience), but most of the time it's so much easier to not have that at all.

^ Yeah. You don't have to use the pictures. I mean, we're not making it mandatory that you do. Just saying that if you're going to use the pictures, they need to be smaller.
