The Smiths were an independent rock band formed in Manchester, England during the 1980s. Fronted by Morrissey and Johnny Marr, The Smiths have been named one of the most influencial alternative rock bands to emerge from that era. Despite their short-lived career, The Smiths have mantained a cult following among alienated teenagers and music junkies alike.

GO ON, PROFESS YOUR LOVE FOR THEM.

I read somewhere that This Charming Man was about age-gap, gay sex. XD
I couldn't look at the song the same way again after that.
But I still love it. tehe
Tbh the guitar intro always makes me want to dance.
    xD lol

    It really does. XD Haha.
    I mean, look...

    A punctured bicycle
    On a hillside desolate
Will nature make a man of me yet ?

    When in this charming car
    This charming man...

    Why pamper life's complexity
    When the leather runs smooth
    On the passenger seat?

    Oh, Morrissey.. :')

Haha, there is NO word for how much I adore them.
They are so lovely, and "There is a light that never goes out" and "Heaven knows I'm miserable now" are amazing!

Only one band has the power to spawn amazing songs, hits and singles (Shakespeare's Sister, This Charming Man, How Soon is Now?, Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me...,etc.), a super-famous solo act (MORRISSEY!!!!!!!!!!!), and incite other bands to start music with their band name being one of their song titles (i.e. Pretty Girls Make Graves), and still have more than enough oomph to make their music approachable for every generation.

    The Smiths.

Long live Morrissey, when he dies I think I'll cry.

I never get tired of listening to The Smiths. I got into them a few years back more than ever, around 2003 to be honest. I knew of them back in the 90's though & mainly Morrisey 'cause of his solo works. But I definitely adore The Smiths tunes.

I personally love "Panic [Hang The DJ]", "Stop Me If You Think That You've Heard This One", "This Charming Man", & "Shoplifters Of The World Unite", oh & "Big Mouth Strikes Again".

They basically rule. I could listen a bunch of songs, but you know, don't want to go on forever lol.

^ Bigmouth Strikes Again is one of my favourites to sing along to. tehe I could never really choose a favourite though. There's too many.

I also really love the songs that weren't on the albums, like Wonderful Woman, Girl Afraid, Back To The Old House, These Things Take Time, Money Changes Everything, etc...
Even their instrumental songs are incredible. In Love

Wow. This thread has been dead for a year and a half...

Anyway, I like the songs How Soon Is Now, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, Panic, and Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before a lot.

^ "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" became my favorite recently. As did "Unhappy Birthday" haha.

I learned how to play a few of their songs on guitar recently.

I got into The Smiths a couple of months ago. Not going to lie, it was the mention of their song 'Asleep' in 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' that spurred me to look them up, but I had heard of them before. I heard that song and fell in love, now I listen to them everyday. I personally love 'I know it's over' 'Heaven knows...' and 'Never had no one ever'. Morrissey is a lyrical genius. 'Nuff said.

I can't even begin to explain how amazing this band is, not just Morrissey. Before, I only paid attention to Morrissey's drop-dead gorgeous voice, but lately I've picked up on the diverse and complicated instrumentals I never noticed. I play bass and think Andy Rourke is one of my favorite bassists. I love the bass line in "Play For Today" and "This Charming Man". So great. As everyone else has addressed, Morrissey is indeed a lyrical genius and his voice is only god-like. I saw him in concert a couple years back, and he's still got it.

I've got a bit of an unhealthy affection for Morrissey so I adore the Smiths. I have "Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me" tattooed on my back and I have this "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" t-shirt that I wear all the time. What I love most is probably the allusions to Shelagh Delaney's play A Taste of Honey in Morrissey's lyrics, particularly in the song "This Night Has Opened My Eyes." It's rumoured that "William, It Was Really Nothing" is about Billy Liar and I can see where it might be, I'm just not absolutely positive. That's the one thing I'd like to ask Morrissey if I ever met him.
