It was interesting. Long and a little tedious in places. I liked the idea of the Little Blad Doctors. And the Dark Tower references made me wet myself a little.

The last book I read was Christine by Stephen King.

You know, I liked Arnie. Just before he got obsessed with Christine, after he was obsessed with Christine, he freaked me out a bit, because it seems to me he was getting to be like Roland Lebay after he bought to car. Which is a bit creepy.

...And now I'm getting off topic, anyway, I enjoyed it. Just like I do with pretty much all of King's books.

Stephen King is a great writer :)

The last book I've read is Chocolat by Joanne Harris. Absolutely love it and I feel like watching the movie again, too.

I've just finished Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men." I don't think I'm supposed to say anything about it, it was perfect and that's all.

Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee by Meera Syal. It was brilliantly written, but I think I liked Anita and Me better.

    ~revives~

I've finished James Joyce's The Dead yesterday. Recently, I've been reading a lot of short stories and novellas because I've discovered that they're very different from novels and that one of the most common mistake people do in stories here is try to write a short-story/novellas as a novel so I'm trying figure out the secrets of writing short prose while at the same time exploring a literary genre I don't usually approach. This wasn't my first experience with Joyce, but it's by far the most pleasant. I've tried to read his other books -emphasis on /try/-, but they all died at some point (Dubliners after the first 4 stories, Ulysses after the first 200 pages, The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man after the part about boarding school/Dedalus being a kid), but one of the strong points of this novella is that it's short enough not to have time to die. It wasn't a purely symbolical ohh the meaning of existence~ kind of story either (what you'd expect from a serious writer like Joyce), it did have a lot of symbols and hints interwoven with this beautiful story, but ultimately what keeps you reading is its profound humane-ness. Although I am not an advocate of relating to characters, I do think that a books/stories ability to capture human spirit is vital and that's exactly what Joyce does in this story. It's just such a pretty story, full of elegant clarity. It has definitely improved my understanding if not also my person opinion on Joyce.

Madame Bovary. Loved it. I feel like I've been reading stuff because I have to read it for a while now (which isn't to say that it isn't amazing literature - just that I don't savour it in the same way). So I just enjoyed reading this purely for the act of reading.

If we're talking graphic novel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. If we're talking novels, The Call of Cthulhu and Other Dark Tales, a collection of stories by the master himself, H.P. Lovecraft.
