Ever Hated Anything About Your Ethinicity?

I know I have.

I'm black/ African American, whichever your prefer and I have always been envious of other ethinicities hair. It may sound stupid, but we all have something we wish we could change about ourselves.

I'm very white, I'm a mix of a lot of things, but half of my ethinicity is from United Kingdom, so I'm really pale, and I'm really jealous of my Italian friends' ability to tan. :[

I'm white, and not a big fan of how pale I am. My other white friends are invariably not as pale as me.

And presuming ethnicity covers nationality, sometimes, although I'm hugely patriotic, there are many things which make me ashamed of the country I live in. I suppose you could say that's a contradiction in terms. What I mean is, I do love England/GB/the UK, and I'm proud to be from there, but there's just so much wrong with it as well.

I don't really HATE anything like that, but I would love to be black :)

I'd say that was a rather harsh generalisation - Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Robert Burns and thousands of other cultural icons were white. Stories and wonderful things? I'm surprised you're not familiar with all the traditional Scottish folklore, for example.

The Germans and the Italians don't have the cleanest history in regards to the 20th century.

I'm basically 2/3rds of the Axis.

It just doesn't seem that exciting that may "people" have a casino, beer, and meatballs.

Well, I love my ethnicity, but I hate how sometimes some people from here give us such a bad name sometimes. I'm Puerto Rican.

I know how you feel.

I'm mexican american. I'm not from mexico but my ancestors are from there, and I hate how people give us bad names. Beaners, greasers, wetbacks. Stuff like that.

I'm not ashamed at all. I LOVE being mexican, but I hate the names that they give us.

one more thing, I don't like how most mexican girls are like, um......"thicker" than other people. Like Mexican's have the curves and stuff, and you hardly see really skinny mexicans. But it kinda makes sense. I mean, tacos, gorditas, and all the other greasy stuff we eat! xD

I'm Italian, and I HATE ginos. They're so annoying.
Oh, and my family is super-judgmental of my mother because she's not Italian. Close-minded buggers.

I personally don't have much against ethnicity, but I detest it when sometimes your family from those ethnic backgrounds are vehement on having the people you associate with from your ethnic background. I can understand why due to religion, similar cultural backgrounds etc but it just irks me.

Not to be rude but what are 'ginos?'

A year or so ago I was talking to my grandmother about my studies. I hold my grandmother unusually high in regard and only people that take priority ahead of her are my brother and mother.

Anyway, since I'm studying Japanese, the conversation was going in that direction and she just sort of mentioned that I shouldn't be marrying a Japanese woman. Turns out she wouldn't like us to mix bloods and I should find myself a white woman.

Witnessing the horror of my expression she quickly tried to remedy her statement by saying that she doesn't mean I shouldn't "fool around" with people of asian descent - just that "I shouldn't officially take one for wife". It took a few hours for me to recover from the shock.

She is incredibly kind and genuinely good person so I never saw racism coming from her, and I knew her all my life and thought I know pretty much everything about her.

But I realised later, that she didn't mean any harm, this is the way she was brought up -- a conservative and ill educated society, they also never really met anyone of different race and doubtedly gave races any thought. So they just adopted this racist attitude which would hardly ever be practiced anyway. I am still convinced that if she gave this particular attitude more thought or if it had any relevance on her life she would revise her thoughts.

I'm hispanic and proud. I don't look it though, I've got blonde hair and green eyes.

There's really only one thing that bothers me, it's when people associate hispanics with being 'illegal aliens'. There are a lot of racist people and they immediately make that relation. (I know not all people but there are a lot.) It makes me mad, it really does.

I'm Fijian. I can't say that I hate anything about my culture, just sometimes there are certain somethings that can get plenty annoying.

Thing I hate most about my ethnicity? There aren't enough Fijians to go around. No joke. There's only like two million of my people out there. Sad.

I just hate how easily I tan. I can be in the sun for an hour and while all my friends don't even get a small tiny burn, I end up toast
My mom is Italian and my dad is Mexican. Arg! hate that combo

..I don't like the, uh, hair that comes with being Italian and Hungarian. I think that's enough said..

I hear ya, I'm mixed. Half black, Half White.
And I can tell you my hair... wow does it take some time...
Not to mention the whole not being part of any "race", or so i'm told.
Of course I think it's so funny watching people guess where I'm from... Which is Ireland and Guyana although I live in Canada.
