There's no Oasis thread?! What has the world come to?! OMG NO!

Oasis is the band that most famously sings Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. Here's their intro blurb on Wikipedia:
    Quote
Oasis were an English rock band that formed in Manchester in 1991. Originally known as The Rain, the group was formed by Liam Gallagher (vocals and tambourine), Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (guitar), Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan (bass guitar) and Tony McCarroll (drums, percussion), who were soon joined by Liam's older brother Noel Gallagher They have had eight UK number-one singles, seven UK number-one albums, fifteen NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and six BRIT Awards, including one in 2007 for outstanding contribution to music and one for the best album of the last 30 years as voted by the BBC Radio 2 listeners, and also for being nominated for three Grammy Awards. As of 2010 the band have sold an estimated 70 million records worldwide.

Its members were signed to independent record label Creation Records and afterwards released their record-setting debut album Definitely Maybe in 1994. The following year, the band recorded the critically acclaimed (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) with their new drummer Alan White in the midst of rivalry with Britpop peers Blur in the charts. The Gallagher brothers featured regularly in tabloid newspapers for their sibling disputes and wild lifestyles. Oasis released their third album, Be Here Now, in 1997, which became the fastest-selling album in UK chart history. The band lost members Paul McGuigan and Paul Arthurs as they went on to record and release Standing on the Shoulder of Giants in 2000 and were replaced by Gem Archer and Andy Bell who joined the group for the tour in support of Giants. The band found renewed success and popularity starting with 2002s Heathen Chemistry through 2008s Dig Out Your Soul and their supporting tours.

In August 2009, Noel Gallagher announced his departure from the band after a backstage altercation with Liam before a festival gig. Liam Gallagher stated that the remaining members of the band would continue to record music, and in February 2010, he ruled out the possibility of the band continuing under the Oasis name.
Someone else on this site must like them, no?

I know what you mean Sad I was just getting into Noel Gallagher and I thought the stuff he wrote for Oasis was way better than Liam's. I don't know what I'm gonna think of thier music now...or if Noel goes solo with something...

Wth I can't believe there isn't a thread on them OMG NO!

I lovelovelove Oasis. A lot of people I know hated their latest album but I loved it. Shifty I think it's so trippy and I love Noel's songwriting on it... Liam even made an impression for his which was unusual, with I'm Outta Time.

I was devastated when I heard that they split. Especially since Noel really was at the heart of Oasis and for him to leave is just Sad 'Cause I can't see them being Oasis without him.

    hey, I love Oasis! Wow

I loved their last album, too. Especially I'm Outta Time. In Love
    A few of my favorites:
    Live Forever
To Be Where There's Life (super trippy, but awesome)
    The Importance of Being Idle
    Let There Be Love
    Champagne Supernova

Bummer they broke up. But I could tell from interviews before that their hearts weren't really in it anymore.

I loved their last album too. It was my first Oasis album (and my only now until I get more money. Thank goodness for myspace music, so I can listen to their albums in full for now). My favorite from it was (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady. And I absolutely adore Live Forever In Love

    Yesyesyesyes..

The firs band I EVER got into :)
When I was eleven I met a guy (we are STILL friends, discussing Oasis and stuff :D), and he once played Oasis and I was just: "Come on, I know this music!"
That was beacuse my sis (she's eight years older) loved them, she even went to their gig in Milano during Don't Believe The Truth tour.
And I LOVE THEM. Especially the first two albums(I need to be myseeeeelf..) + Don't Believe The Truth (I don't miiiiind..).
Now Live Forever is something. There are horrible songs, bad songs, OK songs, good songs, better song, the best songs. And than there is Live Forever. There are a VERY, VERY few songs in this world that can compare to Live Forever, judging by what they mean to me. By VERY, VERY few I mean two or three. By ALL the artist.
Anyway, Oasis were great, even if all this bullshit with Liam goes WAY too far. I mean, he and Noel are BROTHERS. How CAN they fight so much?
But still, they are a great inspiration. My fave songs?
Live Forever, Supersonic, Whatever, What's The Story (Morning Glory), Don't Look Back in Anger, The Importance of Being Idle, Songbird.. Oh, just too many.

While Wonderwall.. Well, I think it can, with all respect to the authors, qualify as one of the most annoying songs ever. Even though it's good. Just.. Overrated.

I agree. I even said today that it was definitely not their best song. I just got Definitely Maybe today Crazy

It's been on repeat about ten times so far tehe

And I definitely agree with you on Liam and Noel. They are brothers, and they need to stop fighting Sad For shiz.

Mhm, Definetley Maybe is awesome. Sometimes I even feel liek it's just as good as What's The Story (Morning Glory). They are both about the same quality, I'd say. It really depends on my mood.

And, yeah, I have three sisters and we fight ALL the time, but.. Our fights are more: "Tina, if you don't return my 3H pencil right NOW I will never give you chocolate again." or "Why must I do the dishes again? Tina has nothing better to do.." or "Sara, why the hell does my chocolate mysteriously disappear every time you're near?" and absolutely NOT: "Okay, Tina, now I will smash your guitar, than I will go to the newspapers and tell them you are an jerkass. Than I will kick you out of the band and if I ever see you again I will stab you!" "okay, maybe I'm overreacting on this one.. A little :D

Well, Noel is definitely one of the bestest songwriters.. I mean, take a look at The Masterplan (which I forgot at my list of favorite songs by them.. how could I) or Live Forever. While Liam.. I don't especially like songs that he wrote, except for Songbird, it's really pretty :)

I know, Liam and Noel took it waaaay too far. And I heard it was about Liam making a joke that Noel's kid wasn't really his, which doesn't sound like a joke to me at all. It sounded really mean. And then for him to smash his guitar, and have all this press surrounding it, I just want them to realize that their not that different. I mean, they're brothers, and they went thru the same stuff as kids. It's ridiculous. Rolling Eyes

And Liam's songwriting is okay, but Noel's just completely beats it in my opinion. Or maybe it's just the fact that Noel wrote Live Forever, and that trumps all songs tehe

I know! I couldn't believe that when I read it. If it's true, that's really fucking low.

And same, my sisters and I fight occasionally, but not the way they do. It makes me sad.

Neither could I. I mean, I knew they fought, but to say something that....that mean was just awful.

And my brothers and I fight too, but I wouldn't go into my brothers room and smash their Xbox or their something that valuable to them. I think Noel really cherished that guitar. It was something like 50 years old, wasn't it?

Yeah, Noel is WAY better songwriter, it's not just Live Forever.

All that fighting is just nonsense. Basically, they never really liked themselves even when they were kids, and they had a really rough time, but, c'mon, I wouldn't do something like that to my worst enemy, leave brother alone.

It's not just mean, it's SICK.

Liam is really being cocky on this one. Without Noel Oasis would be a bunch of nobodies, and he (Liam) KNOWS it. I'd say he's jealous.

It's anyway stupid to even talk about this.. Let's change subject :D.

Ahhhh I love Live Forever. Probably my favourite Oasis song. But it's so hard to choose as they have such an amazingamazing catalogue of songs.

And yes, Noel > Liam. (Soz to any Liam fans) But yeah, I just think without Noel the band wouldn't be much... I mean he's written their best songs, created their whole sound. It must suck for Liam, though, because he formed the band and Noel joined later. And he just totally pwned Liam in songwriting. tehe

... I mean, Noel wrote Wonderwall. And look how well that did. XD

I love Wonderwall. I think it would have to be one of my favourite songs ever. I don't know, it's that song everybody knows and everything but there's something about it. The chords are lovely, and for me I can listen to it hundreds of times without getting sick of it. I seem to hear something new and refreshing each time. It's weird.

I would kill to see them live. Not going to happen now, though. Sad My mum said something about how they're always "splitting up", and they'll probably get back together. But this time seemed different. And in one of the recent issues of Q Russell Brand wrote a kind of tribute to Noel (as part of the magazine's 'artists of the century' feature) and it sounded like Noel really was calling it quits with the band.

    Sad
