So we have a thread for characters that annoy you, but what about the opposite? What about the characters you can't help but fall in love with, even a little bit?

I love the bad characters who actually aren't all that bad at all. The morally grey characters, basically. I just find them really interesting. In Love

    What about you?

I love supportive older sibling types who have their moments when they fight with their sibling, but overall, they're generally only looking out for and trying to help their younger brother/sister.
They're hardly ever well-written, but when they are, they're perfect. In Love

I love grungy gay boys. Where they're gay and they're sort of "femme" but they also swear a lot and do drugs and drink and curse and act like boys, while still being sort of "flaming gay boys". I just love that. (I also love writing that.)

I like genuinely clever characters. Also, sweet ones, if done a certain way. I sometimes like a perpetually sarcastic/smart ass character, but all too often those are not done justice or are overdone. Like the sarcastic character scenario, I also tend to like the random characters. By random, of course, I don't mean the stupid overplayed and failed at/not funny, but annoying "ADHD" kid, but rather I mean someone sort of like The Seance from Umbrella Academy that chimes in about how he sees centipedes everytime he closes his eyes because he's tripping in the middle of a relatively serious conversation, but not necessarily in an annoyingly irrelevant way. [I fail at explanations.]

And in general, if a character becomes relatively real to me. I pretty much love that. Very Happy

I agree. For that same reason, I really love positive characters, which are hard to come by these days.

I like characters that are a good balance of serious and funny.
I also love the actual evil characters. Not the bitchy ones, but the hardcore evil guys.

I like ones with well-done mental instability. I'm not just talking depression and/or being emo and being just two dimensional. I mean real problems: schizophrenia, borderline, bipolar. If they're done properly.

And I like ones that go through a complete change and you can see it. There's a THF story and its sequel - Obloquy and What Patience Brings - and the changes that Bill goes through after Tom's death feel so goddamn real and they're done so well. His entire personality is done flawlessly. Him dealing with it and moving on, it's all incredible, because it's not done as some authors will do, where the character goes through everything in a short, sweet 12-chapter piece. It's a long process and it's not just getting over a loved one and falling in love and moving on. It's painful and long and lonely and terrifying and just... I don't even know. Characters that go through big, long, drastic changes and feel real and alive to me.

And I like vain ones. Mr. Green When they're realistically selfis/vain/narcisstic and you just want to slap them. I personally know how these type of people are and getting to read them done right is wonderful.

Stereotypical men. Ones who smoke cigars or cigarettes and like beer and ogle women. I don't know why, but I do. XD Also, to quote an artist who's name I've forgotten, "poetic vagabonds with rough hands and romantic hearts. Shady looking, well meaning losers."

    ^ I like that quote :D
I also love characters that have some sort of little catchphrase. Like, my character Ophilia McLaggen from ATSOHP's catchphrase is, "Holy Fizzing Whizbees!"
It just reminds me of the old-school Batman, with Robin and his, "Holy Kryptonite Batman!" and other variations XD

The bad/badass characters that noone can help but love them anyway. They do mean shit and the main character usually hates them but they are just too cool for you to care hahaha. Both in appearance and in personality ;D.

Characters that don't apologize for lifestyle choices that are somewhat controversial. (Being promiscuous, smoking weed, having an open relationship, etc.)

I really like the characters that you just love to hate. Like Bellatrix Lestrange. I absolutely LOVE her, but I hate her at the same time. She's just...gah, I just love her XD

    dru believes.:

Adding onto that. When they do have a lifestyle choice that is controversial, but they're a good person. I like it when you have a character that maybe sleeps around and does drugs, but is a good person. It's just not the typical thought.

I like naïve characters, not dumb characters but people who are experiencing things for the the first. I enjoy reading the magic that comes from experiencing something for the first time.

I like sarcastic characters. The ones with the biting remarks but they actually have some reason for acting that way.

    It kinda hits home.

I like the comedic characters that kind of lighten the mood in the "all hope is lost" kind of thing.

But I also like characters that have quirks like neat freaks or brainiacs, the characters that can be real.

I love characters that have a quirk or a habit or an annoying habit. And there's really no reason for it. Almost an OCD thing.

    . . . I also love OCD characters. XD
