I love the types of characters that are portrayed as being "bad" or "mean", but actually turn out to be a really amazing person. :)

Optimistic characters that are also total sweethearts (think Charlotte from Sex and the City). It's just so refreshing to read about someone who's not completely jaded and cynical.

Groups of friends that aren't carbon copies of one another and don't share the exact same opinions on everything under the sun. Real friends don't always get along, don't always agree on certain topics, and friends even sometimes judge one another. That's life.

Granted, I have my issues with Sex and the City, but I do really praise that show for portraying women with totally different (and even sometimes opposing) personalities and views on relationships and sex while still showing that they are true friends and are there for one another, even though they don't always agree or have the same views on life.

Antiheroes. I'm in love with twisted senses of morality and overbearing flaws. Also, the total disregard for authority.

Characters that are forced to grow up too fast.

Characters who are just terrible people and who do terrible, unspeakable things just because they can.

Snarky characters, but aren't completely negative and are actually quite mellow and chill.

Optimistic and hopeful characters. It's so annoying to constantly read characters that are all doom and gloom, never have a good thing to say about anything, and take the blessings that they do have for granted.

Characters that have a medical condition or mental illness but don't let that condition define them as a person. It's so rare to come across, especially in online fic, that it's so refreshing when you do find those characters.

I love characters who contradict themselves while still making sense. I don't know if that sentence itself made sense, but still.

I love intelligent characters. I love the characters that don't just know a lot but also know how to think differently.

I like characters that are complicated but realistic the most.
I also like sarcastic characters, the ones with the biting remarks.
And stereotypical men. Ones who smoke cigars or cigarettes and like beer and ogle women.
I like ones with well-done mental instabilities: schizophrenia, borderline, bipolar. If they're done properly.

Honestly, I believe that if the author is good at what he writes, he can make you love all kinds of characters.

i love the man that does horrible things, but thinks that they are okay.
and the one who does horrible things just for the pleasure of doing them.
and the one that has given his life towards maintaining his facade, despite his being accepted anyway.
the girl who's not afraid to do anything, but has an irrational, deep-rooted fear of an object.
the woman who works herself to death.
the boy whose smile is infectious.
the man who no one can seem to remember.
the man that's genuinely, truly evil because he enjoys it.

I love characters who have this cynical and sarcastic view on everything. Usually, it's the main character's best friend and they end up being the conscience for the main character. I don't know why I like them (maybe because I'm that person in life) but I think they add a little comic relief and sometimes add a whole new view on subjects.
    the speed of sound:
i love the man that does horrible things, but thinks that they are okay.
and the one who does horrible things just for the pleasure of doing them.
These are my two favourite types of characters to read about in crime fiction.
