Types of Characters You Love

mine as well. i like bad guy characters because helloooo, charisma.

I always like when there's a character who's kind of a douche most of the time, or even all the time, but there's situations throughout the story that shows they aren't heartless and do care about some things or people. Just things that show that even if they are the antagonist, they still care about at least something.

I love characters who have this cynical and sarcastic view on everything. Usually, it's the main character's best friend and they end up being the conscience for the main character.

The main character's best friend is usually my favorite because (most of the time) they've always got this straight-forward attitude and that beautiful sarcastic trait. Sarcasm is always a love for me.

I love a passionate character. I remember seeing some tumblr post about Lilo from Lilo and Stitch and how she was passionate about everything.

I think it's also a very rare thing indeed to see someone passionate nowadays, we're all so miserable on the outside; I can only imagine what we harbor inside.

I also like a narrator character like Nick Carroway. What a guy.

Characters affected by actual historical events somehow in their past and it adds to their characterisation to make them stronger.

Unreliable narrators; they're probably my favorite thing in the world.

Characters who legitimately let their pride and/or stubbornness get in the way of things. Like, when they know they could just give in and things would be so much easier, but they feel like they can't because they weren't wrong, even if they end up punishing themselves in the process. This has to be done right, but when it is, oh my!

^ Unreliable narrators.

Characters that are not defined by their sexuality.

Really, I just love characters that are well-written and real.

Boys who have the rude boy swagger. Like you know they're bad news, you hear a lot about them, but they turn out to be really decent boys.

Girls that kick ass xD
But I mean characters!

Well-written children.

Characters that are foolishly optimistic.

Negative people that point out the flaws in every situation. They're usually so cynical that it makes me laugh.

Scientists. Collier, I miss you.
Steampunk doctors. The bird-mask ones.
Magicians. Especially those with a really tragic backstory.

You know how in some stories, especially the comedic ones, there's always the straight-edge main character who's "the only sane one in a world of crazies"? Well I like reading from the "crazy" one's point of view :3 Especially when you have a straight edge character to compare them to.

I love sarcastic, comedic characters. Someone who jokes to lighten to mood.

Immature characters
Characters with few/no convictions

Hilarious and sarcastic characters.

Authentic characters, as in characters that have real strengths and real weaknesses and may not always be relatable or likable to the reader.

I feel like a lot of times writers try too hard to make their characters relatable and well-liked that they begin to lose all of their personality.

Characters who care about other people. They aren't all about themselves and their problems aren't the only problems. They have concern for their friends and family, and not just in the sense of how it affects them.

I think it's nice to see people who genuinely care about their loved ones or even strangers.

Villains! I love me a well-written villain.
Especially one who never repents.
They're such fun characters to write and read about.

- The tough characters who are actually vulnerable
- Cunning and sly characters
- Humorous characters
- The ever optimistic that won't let anything break them down
- Characters with complex morals who can still be good.

Apparently I really have a thing for like nervous/awkward characters. Double bonus points if they talk way too much as like a coping mechanism.

I love a ton of different character types but one I've noticed most recently is the small, angry, gay protagonist – gay characters that have been traumatized or judged for whatever reason and are largely decent people but are ready to throw down if they or someone they love are insulted.
