    That's great! I like it :)

I looked up tutorials, and they always had coloring tuts on them. I practiced with the coloring settings they had, and then I started playing around and making up my own.

What level of difficulty is your tutorial? it's pretty basic, but you must know how to create a PNG in PSP9 using the point-to-point tool.

First off, if you do not have Paint Shop Pro, the full version, you may want to invest in it.

    Now, onto the good stuff.

Here are the images you will be using:
    whiteflower | birdcage | EmmaWatson1 | EmmaWatson2 | icontextures

    Image
This is the banner you will be creating.

    Step One
Open your PSP9 (after you download it if you're downloading it) and open a new document (File > New). Set the width to 500px and the height to 200px and the background should be white.

    Step Two
Take the whiteflower image and past it three times (or once and then duplicate twice) into your new document. Blend the three images together, so it should look something like this.

    Step Three
Take the birdcage image, and paste it as a new layer (edit > paste > paste as new layer). Now click on your eraser tool, click on the circle and set your settings to mine: size: 55, hardness: 43, step: 32, density: 100, thickness: 100, opacity: 57. Now carefully erase the image, only leaving behind the bird cage, you can make it messy it doesn't really matter. When you're done, move it to the left, and a little down. Set the opacity to 50. It should look like this now.

    Step Four
Now you're going to choose your image. I'm using Emma Watson, but you can use whoever you want. Paste it as a new image (edit > paste > paste as new image) and then click on the lasso tool (freehand selection tool). Its green and is the fifth icon on the bar. Once there, click the dropdown button and use the point-to-point tool. Set your settings according to mine: mode: add, opacity: 10, smoothing: 10. Now carefully click around the person so it should look like this.

Tip!: Do not rush when doing this, take your time, if you have to, zoom in.
Tip!: When you're finished, make sure you connect the two lines.

Okay, now that you've done that, hold ctrl + x and then press ctrl + v That should create a new image with your person in it. It should look like this.

    Step Five
Paste your photo into your previous document with the background, and move it to your liking. I put my photo to the close right of the bird cage. Now take your second photo, I'm using the EmmaWatson2 photo, and repeat step four on it. Then paste it onto your document, and move it to the right of the first image. Then proceed to click on your eraser tool, and change the opacity to 35. Then erase away the dress of EmmaWatson2 if you're using that photo blending it into EmmaWatson1 to look like this.

    Step Six
Now paste the icontextures under the two images (paste as new layer > move it down twice on layer panel). Double click on the layer in the layer panel so the properties pops up, and set it to soft light. Erase the image in the places you don't like it, so it should look somewhat like this.

    Step Seven
Now we're going to begin the coloring. Create a new raster layer (layers > new raster layer) and fill it with #300707 set to exclusion at 20%. Create another new raster layer (layers > new raster layer) and fill it with #616EBE set to normal at 12% opacity. Create another new raster layer (layers > new raster layer) and fill it with #E0DED7 set to multiply at 15% opacity.

Create one last raster layer (layers > new raster layer) and fill it with #D6B281 set to multiply at 11% opacity. It should now look similar to this.

    Step Eight
Create a new raster layer and fill it with #051037 on exclusion with an opacity of 100%. Go to layers > new adjustment layers > levels and in the RGB input put 26 - 1.3 - 231. It should look similar to this.

    Step Nine
Go to layers > new adjustment layers > color balance. Do this:
    SHADOWS: 0 0 -39
    MIDTONES: 0 +11 -16
    HIGHLIGHTS: 0 0 +40

It should look similar to this this now.

    Step Ten
Go to layers > new adjustment layers > color balance and in the midtones put +24, -32, -14. Then go to channel mixer and put under Reds: +100, 0, -32. Set this layer to 26 in Opacity. Then go to channel mixer and put under Reds +122, -20, -22 and under Greens +10, +78, +6. Set this layer to 50 in Opacity.

    Step Eleven
Now go to layers > merge > merge all. You can add any text you want, I used JaneAusten for the top line, and Arial for the bottom line.

Your final image should look something like this. Hope you enjoyed the tutorial! :D

Please credit to me if you use this tutorial in any way shape or form. Thanks.

Beginners Icon/Avatar tutorial for GIMP 2.6

    Image
Alrighty, I'm going to use picture here, simply because there's lots in it, and if you want to use it, you can play around and get different placements for the avatar/icon.

You may want to re-size any pictures you use, just because it allows for more of a picture in the avatar. For this one, I went into Paint, ctrl+W, and made the percentage 60.

one. Open up GIMP >> File >> Open and click the picture you want to use. Or, right click your picture in its location and click open with GIMP.

two. Click Layer up on the menu bar at the top of the screen, hover your mouse over Transparency, and click Add Alpha Channel.

three. Click the eraser tool on the toolbox doc, or you can go Shift+E. Make sure you've got the eraser tool selected, otherwise you may just end up with the paintbrush and nothing will happen.

four. Press Shift+Q and your picture should now go red. In some cases it may go white, but that's okay, just as long as you click shift+Q.

five. Now go and erase the red around the part of the picture you want to use.
    example.

six. Press Shift+Q again, and the picture will lose the red and will go back to how it was originally. However, it will now have the box with the moving lines around the area you want to use.
    example.
Here, you may also see little moving lines within the area you want to use, this means that you haven't properly erased some of the red, so press Shift+Q again and run your mouse over where the lines were. It's good to take mental note where they were. Then, press Shift+Q again once you think you've gotten rid of those lines.

seven. Up on the menu bar at the top of the page click Select >> Invert or press Ctrl+I. Sometimes you may actually lose your image, so click Ctrl+Z and carry on with the following steps.

eight. Click delete on your keyboard. :) You should now end up with a background where the whole image used to be of grey squares (which is the transparency I think), and your selected image to use as an avatar.
    example.

nine. Now, go up to the menu bar at the top of the page again, and click Image >> Canvas Size. A box should open like this. Here is where you will alter the size to get the avatar sizing. So, on Mibba, that would be 100x100.

ten. Where 300 is highlighted in the box, delete it and type in 100. Now, click on the little clip on the right side of the box, and that should break. Then change the next number to 100.
    example.
The black outlined box will be the are you put the picture in for your avatar.

eleven. Now all you do is simply move the area of the picture you want to use into the black outlines of the box, like so.

twelve. Click Resize and you will be taken back to the screen of the picture where you'll have an avatar sized picture and a dotted line where the rest of the picture used to be.
    example

thirteen. Go back up to the menu bar at the top of the page and click Layer >> Layer To Image Size. You will now have a little icon/avatar. :)

When you go to save it, click Save >> Export >> Save

    Product(s):
    Image
(the one I used in the examples)

Or, even some of these, if you choose to play around with the picture:
    Image Image Image
    Image Image Image

If you make one avatar from the picture and find you want to go back after saving it, just press Ctrl+Z twice, and that will remove Steps thirteen to nine Then you carry on with those steps again, altering the avatar where you find it necessary.

    - - -

Note: I'm not able to tell you how to make them look all pretty like, so if you want to, go onto sites like weheartit and pick a picture which looks like it has already been edited. ;)

Also, if you need any help at all, feel free to PM me. :)

NB:I used this tutorial[/url], so if you get confused, maybe go there and have a wee look. However, if you go past Step Five it may get a little confusing and you might end up thinking wtf. :)

    Beginner's Tutorial

We will be making this today, a simple banner:

    1) We're going to start by opening a new document, start by opening Gimp and press ctrl +n. Make the dimensions 500 x 150. After that, click the fill bucket and fill the background with black. If you don't have gimp, download it at the site (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post where to download it, as some sites don't allow it. But just google Gimp, and it'll lead you to the official site. It's free, too!)

    2) We're going to be using images from this site. You can choose any pictures you want. But since this is a beginner's tutorial, choose two pictures to blend. Once you've chosen two, save them to your computer.

    3) Go back to your Gimp browser and press ctrl + alt +o and select your pictures. Place the images wherever you want them to be. Once you've got the composition of the pictures where you want them, take the flip tool and flip one of the pictures (preferably the one on the left) and then flip it again. By doing this, it creates a layer mask, so that when you erase it, it erases the background.

    4) Click the eraser tool. You have many options, but I like to use soft brushes. To make a soft brush, press ctrl + shift + b, which opens up the brush selection dialogue box. At the bottom, there's an icon, choose the one with the pencil in it (if you hover over it, it reads Edit Brush). Make the radius whatever size you want, you can choose any setting you'd like, but set the hardness to 0.00. Then you can close the dialogue box, and start erasing the unwanted parts of the picture you don't want.

    5) After that, right click on the top picture on your layer box, (if it's not showing up, press ctrl + L) and click flatten image. After that, press ctrl + shift + n, press enter, and then on the toolbox, select the gradient tool. Drag from the bottom of the picture to the top. On the layer's panel, choose multiply for the mode. You can choose the opacity (which determines how dark the picture will be.)

    6) use this texture (credit to Uferlos) and then press ctrl + alt +o. select the picture, and go to colors >> desaturate. After that, drag the picture so that only a little is showing. Set the mode to lighten.

    7) Add Text! I used Day Roman. And that's it, so save it and upload to photobucket or tinypic. if you've got any questions, just ask on this thread! And make sure when you save, save it as a png, but adding .png to the end.
    Thank you :D

I was super stoked about your tutorials, because I'm not very good with gimp just yet. However, I can't edit my brushes like you can, do you have any idea why?

    Picture Inside Text (Clipping Mask)

    Image

I used this picture but you can use any picture. Bright colorful ones work the best.

Step 1) Open your picture in GIMP.
Step 2) Click the text tool. Choose font, font size. Font color doesn’t matter.
Step 3) Add your text to your picture (Click, drag your mouse across the picture.). I used my name but you can use any word. You might have to make your letters smaller to have the whole word fit. Move the text to where you want it.
Step 4) Make sure your text layer is selected and go to Layer<Transparency< Alpha To Selection. Your word should now be outlined by blinking dashes. this
Step 5) Delete your text layer. You should be left with your picture, and blinking text. (To delete your layer right click the layer then click 'Delete Layer') this
Step 6) Go to Select< Float. You should now have a floating layer. Right click the floating layer and make it a new layer. this
Step 7)Delete back ground layer and you should have your text with picture inside it. this
When you save it GIMP will probably tell you that you can’t save it with transparent background and you’ll have to export it. When it’s exported the words will appear on a white background. To change the color of the background use Paint.

^ Ah that's neat. :) I found a tutorial on how to do that on Createblog, and I sat there for ages trying to figure it out and I just couldn't get it. But I get it now. :) Thank the lord. Oh, I just thought I'd point something out, in Step 5, it might pay to say that to delete the layer, right click and delete from the menu. Because I just used the delete key on my keyboard, and it didn't work. :/ But I got it in the end. :)

    Image

Just sayin, I love that you put this tutorial up. :) Seriously, I've been typing in text on word, taking a screenshot, saving it as a picture, opening it up in GIMP, adding a new layer with textures then changing the mode. But this makes it easier. Thank you :)
