ohhai. I'm JJ, and this is my first tutorial. EVER. So. Be nice? :look: This is for a siggie that I use on another site. ;D

I'd like to encourage everyone to use their own stocks/images and whatnot. ;D This is just to help you maybe learn something. So, let's begin!

All stocks (c) Stef's Stock Pack, found here.

    STOCK:
    1 ;; 2 ;; 3 ;; 4 ;; 5 ;; 6 ;; 7 ;; 8 ;; wolf ;; Nina Dobrev

Wow, that's a lot. xD ANYWHO. Let's begin, shall we?

    THE BASE:

    - Open up a new image. I tend to use 500x250, but that is completely up to you. Paste in Stock #1 on the left side. Add in Stock #2 on the right and blend it in. I tend to use layer masks and the paint brush tool, but that's up to you. (:
    - I added in Stock #3 also on the right. Set to Lighten, 30%.
    - Put in Stock #4 on the left. Leave it at Normal, 30%. I didn't want all of it showing, so I used a layer mask and took nearly all of it off, except for the gate.

    Image

    - Add Stock #5. I didn't resize or anything. Put it on Soft Light, 40%.
    - Add Stock #6 on the right. Blend it in however you so choose, and put on Soft Light, 100%.
    - Pfew. So many stocks! Add in Stock #7 on the left. Do some blending, and then put it on Soft Light, 100%.
    - Paste the clock (Stock #8 ) wherever you think it'll look good. I put it kinda off center on the right. Blended a little, and then left it on Normal, 60%.

    Image

    - Now, add in the wolf wherever you'd like. (: I used a layer mask to cut him out, using a hard brush first, and then softening the edges with a medium-sized soft brush.
OPTIONAL: I wanted to change the color of his eyes. So, I used the Quick Mask tool and using a small brush, and zooming in super close, I colored his eyes. After un-clicking the Quick Mask, his eyes were now surrounded with the 'marching ants'. After inversing the selection, I filled it with a dark brown, and set it to Hard Light.
    - I then added in Ms. Dobrev, right next to the wolf. I did the same thing as I did with the wolf, using the layer mask. Only difference is, I blended her hair more into the wolf, so it was almost like they were one. (:

    TEXT:

    - I started out with her name 'Mercy Leverett'. It's font Pavane, 36pt. Right click and go to blending options. Here's what I put:
---- Drop Shadow - default settings
    ---- Bevel & Emboss - default settings
    ---- Gradient Overlay - #7c3a4e to #ffffff
    ---- Stroke - 1pt, #651e31

    - Beneath it, I put the words 'you jump in bed with fame' and below it 'another one night paid in full'. Both #ffffff, Georgia, 11pt

    Image

    COLORING:
Note: I might have gotten this coloring from somewhere, but I honestly don't remember. (: If you happen to know, please link me so I can properly credit. Thanks!

    - Fill Layer, #4f4f4f, Darken, 40%
    - Fill Layer, #501300, Exclusion, 50%
    - Selective Color
    Red: -51/0/0/0
    - Curves
    RGB
    I: 75 O: 62
    I: 171 O: 173
    RED
    I: 94 O: 81
    GREEN
    I: 70 O: 56
    I: 160 O: 152
    BLUE
    I: 89 O: 76
    I: 139 O: 195
    I: 255 O: 255
    - Brightness/Contrast
    Brightness: +16
    - Fill Layer, #939393, Darken, 41%
    - Curves
    BLUE
    I: 133 O: 161

    Image

    OPTIONAL:
Now, you could stop up there, and be fine. ;D But, I like to add a few finishing touches. You may do so as well.

    - Make a new layer. Go to Image --> Apply Image. Sharpen Layer.

    Image

    - Apply image on a new layer again. Here, I zoomed in and used the Sharpen tool, with a hard, round brush, and 30% strength. I went over both sets of eyes, and Nina's lips. I did the same with the dodge tool, but with a soft brush. Make sure it's on Midtones. I have mine set at a 70% exposure. Then I took the Blur tool, 50% strength, with a small, soft brush, and went over her skin.

    Image

    - And lastly, apply your image once more on a new layer. Here, I used a filter that you can download called Topaz Clean. You can download a free trial here. I played around with the settings, and then set the layer to 40%.

    And that's it!

    Image

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. (; I'd love to know what everyone thought and see what you've made!

^ That's absolutely amazing! I love how you've managed to make the finished product look seamless.
Just wondering what program you used?

I use Photoshop CS2. :D There's only one selective coloring layer. I'm sure it could be used with other programs.

I was just messing around and I came up with a really, blindingly simple animation technique. I did mine in Photoshop CS2 because I'm retro like that.

The final picture will look like this:

    Image

Alright, first of all, you need a picture (or, more likely, a few pictures) of what you want the pictures to change to. I chose this picture from here because, quite frankly, it's adorable. The girl is Oh Land, if you're interested. :3

Alright. Next thing I did was separate the pictures out into boxes of the same size by using the Rectangular Marquee tool. I basically drew a selection around the first picture, copied and pasted it into a new file and dragged the marquee along to the next image. My layer palette looked something (well, exactly) like this:

    Image

Then, I went to 'Window' and brought up the 'Animation' menu.

    Image
    Image

Then in the Animation menu, I clicked the button towards the bottom left that looks like the 'New Layer' button (a piece of paper with the corner folded over), which gave me a new slide. On this slide, I went over to my layer palette and made the first image of the lot invisible.

    Image

This made the second image of the lot the only one visible on the slide. I periodically added slides to the animation and made the pictures invisible. Then, once I had them all down, I pressed the 'play' button on the 'animation' menu and checked through. The pictures were moving far too quickly for my liking so I selected them all (click the first slide, then hold down Shift and click the last slide) and went down to the little drop-down menu under the pictures that says '0 sec.' and clicked on that. I first tried 0.5 seconds but that was too slow, then I tried 0.2 seconds and that worked for me.

    Image

Okay, so the moving part of the .gif is finished. Then you go to File > Save for Web and a huge-ass box pops up.

    Image

Make sure you give it a final run through by clicking play in the bottom-ish right to see if it looks the way you want it to, and also that the file type is 'GIF' in the drop down menu near the top. Then all you have to do is save. OMGYES

What level of difficulty is your tutorial? it's pretty basic, but you must know how to create a PNG in PSP9 using the point-to-point tool.
I don't have PSP9 but I really liked your banner so I switched everything over GIMP and this is how it turned out:

    Image

I think it's pretty good considering the fact that I wasn't using the same program.

I just downloaded GIMP and I'm very confused on how to make the banner. I know how to erase the unwanted parts of the pictures, but I don't understand how to put a background and text.

^ well generally you put the background on first, then open a new layer (instructions in the banner making parts on here), and for text, you click the big black A on the Toolbox on GIMP.

Totally used your tutorial as a guide for GIMP, and figured out how to blend things together with the lasso. :) So, thank you for a tutorial on another program which helped me learn more about GIMP. :)

This tutorial is for people like me and have had paint for.... well for as long as you can remember but have only used it when you're bored to scribble things. Personally, I only discovered what this amazing little free program could do about a year ago and think everyone should know how to use it.

    Image

Well, the first thing you’re going to do is paste your image into the paint program. Do this by selecting “Edit” and then “Paste from” in order to choose an image. If you just paste it, only one picture can be used so make sure you click the right one.

    Image

Now, paste your second image using “paste from” as you can see we have a lot of white in the image and need to get rid of that.

    Image

Since the background was really close to white (but not quite) that color would not be a good one to use since you wouldn’t be able to see it. I used red.

Right click the color you want in order to select it as the background color for your entire image, then left click it to select it for your drawing color. You want both the squares on the bottom to be the same color. This way when you select the image, you can erase the background. Oh, just do it and trust me on this.

After selecting the colors, click the paint can on the left side of the screen, this fills in large spaces with a single color. As you can see, the color filled in most of the white but not all. I recommend using the eraser or paint tool to get most of the background erased as you can, then take the line drawing tool and fill in the rest. This takes practice, so don’t get frustrated if it doesn’t turn out perfectly.

    Image

This is what it should look like. Notice I deleted a few unneccesary details and it’s not perfect.

    Image

Now, click the select tool on the left side of the screen -it looks like a box made of dotted lines- and select the image of Zac, before moving it over your background image. The background will most likely be red, to fix this, just look below the tool box on the left side of the screen. You’ll see two boxes, make sure the bottom one has the dark grey background, if it doesn’t, click it, this will make the background of the Zac image disappear.

    Image

Now, just crop the edges and DA! DA! You have a pretty cool looking banner.

    Not so hard, huh?
