  • Am I the only one who doesnt like seeing the whole "HOW DO YOU NOT LIKE THEM OMG" on here. It's unpopular musical opinions. Yours may be different than theirs, thats fine.
    -----

Despite what everyone else says, whether it be the media or just little scene kids in general ("Ugh. How do you like Green Day? They're so MAINSTREAM. Anything mainstream must DIIIIIIE."), I absolutely adore the American Idiot musical. The cast sounds amazing, and the production is excellent.
I also don't think Green Day necessarily "sold out" for making the musical. If punk is actually about rebellion ( From wiki: An associated punk subculture emerged, expressing youthful rebellion and characterized by distinctive styles of clothing and adornment and a variety of anti-authoritarian ideologies.}, how many punk bands actually made a musical. Pretty ~nonconformist if you ask me.

I thought that would constitute as "unpopular" because most opinions I see on the musical are negative.

I like Metallica and Tegan and Sara. Weird
I still think people on here have the right to ask why, this is supposed to be a discussion thread. If it's not a discussion thread and simply a thread to list bands you dislike then it might as well go into the General thread. this is the Artists discussion board. There needs to be a discussion.

So as long as you follow the rules and don't abuse another person and still use proper grammar I think asking a question is just fine. Some people are curious as to what someone else might not like about a favourite artist of theirs.

The idea of "selling out" , to me anyway, is when a band stops caring about making music that means something to them and starts making music to make money. The money and fame is all they care about, not the music, not the fans, not the world around them.

Green Day couldn't be farther from that.

Their music has gotten more and more meaningful over the years and you can see just how much making music means to them. They've put on free shows, cheap secret shows, secret bands and tours all for the fans.

They try to avoid paparazzi at any and all costs. (For a band that's internationally known that's been around for 20 years, it's pretty amazing that you don't see many paparazzi pictures of them. No pictures of Billie shopping on Melrose, y'know?)

I really don't think they've sold out. And if you ever see live videos of FBHT on youtube you'd understand that.

They made a musical? Who cares? They did something out of the norm. Something different and original. Something that most people would never think of doing. And they were completely involved with it from the planning to the execution of the musical. Billie co-wrote the book with Michael Mayer. He didn't just sign rights over and ask for a check, y'know?

  • ^I agree. I think that if this is a discussion thread, we should be allowed to ask why someone doesn't like a band or artist. Just because it's an unpopular music opinion doesn't mean that others who like said artist or band can't ask why. Smile

I feel like I'ma get flogged for this one, but...
Carrie Underwood. Yak I seriously have a problem with her (I've met her as well, so I can say I don't like her personality either.)

    EDIT:

OMG NO! WHAT? I just....I cannot...what!?!?! I CANNOT COMPREHEND THIS INSANITY.
But they....they have lovely voices. Cry
I'm gonna go listen to Tegan and Sara now, while staring at a picture of the adorableness that is Tegan and Sara, while drinking Tegan and Sara brand soda.
    (just kidding about the soda...)
Well, you don't like MCR or A7X, and they're two of my favorite bands along with Placebo. Coffee When I first heard of Tegan and Sara, they sounded like the kind of people I could dig, and I thought maybe they could have really interesting music. But then I listened to Call It Off and I couldn't wait for the song to end. X'D Nothing against them as people, just their voices.

I think what you said about bands not caring about the music and is now about the money, it reminds me a lot of the band Kiss. They have have sold so much crap, it kind of ridiculous.

Okay. I'll....accept this. Fair enough. Even though at least the backing vocals in that song were so completely beautiful.

See, but it's not their voices I don't like. Just something about the way everything all sounds together doesn't go well with me. And maybe some of the lyrics.

But I'm with you on Radiohead.

  • I dislike the term selling out.

Bands can play music for their love of music all they like, but it's still their career, and it's still what brings in the money. Music is an industry, not just a hobby people do to pass the time between their day jobs. If a band starts to get popular and sell more albums, it is actually good for them.

I always thought the term "selling out" referred to bands that make the type of music that will sell well, rather than the music they would like to make. /spammish

Powderfinger. I like a few of their songs but I just find their music kind of same-y.

  • Adding Paramore to my list. It's not that I don't like them, it's the fact that the majority of their songs all sound exactly the same. I can listen to about one or two songs before it just gets samey and boring.

Muse. I really, really don't like them. Whathisface's voice really irritates me.

And this won't mean anything to anyone who doesn't like j-rock, but X-Japan. Twitch Everyone loves them and you're supposed to love them because they're the pioneers of visual kei or something and one member died which is instantly makes it horrible to hate them apparently, but yeah. File I don't like them. Also Alice Nine, for the same reason I don't like Paramore. Coffee

(I actually don't mind. XD I'm just utterly confused as to how Matt's voice can irritate anyone. Cheese).
