Are you taking literature or something along the lines of media studies?
- Billie Joe Armstrong:
- Oh guys.
I'm doing my second college paper on Sherlock Holmes!
It's a contrast/compare essay about the original books vs BBC Sherlock.
I was gonna do A Study In Scarlet/A Study In Pink.
any suggestions or help would be MUCH appreciated.

Hmm you could write about active reading vs passive reading. The 19th century reader of Sherlock Holmes stories is a passive reader, a mere spectator, whereas the modern one wants to participate, so they adapt/rewrite the stories. You could relate this to the wave of reinterpretations and spin-offs of classic literature, postmodernism's tendency to play with intertextuality and reader-response theory. Or you could write about how classic literature is taking the role of religion in contemporary society as the moral driving force (and relate this, ermm, to the relationship between Sherlock and Watson, perhaps?), but that's a bit boring, possibly pretentious. I'm a bit boring, possibly pretentious. Sorry.
