I'm doing my second college paper on Sherlock Holmes!
It's a contrast/compare essay about the original books vs BBC Sherlock.

I was gonna do A Study In Scarlet/A Study In Pink.

any suggestions or help would be MUCH appreciated.

Are you taking literature or something along the lines of media studies?

Why did I not realise this thread existed before now? OMGYES
Sherlock is quite possibly the best thing to happen to television ever. I'm not even a huge fan of the franchise but I'm steadily getting into it because of the show. I think I fell in love within minutes. It's just so perfectly written and the banter, oh the banter, and the characters are simply wonderful and the plots were quite clever (if a little obvious at times) and it was just beyond amazing and THE ENDING WAS HORRIBLE. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I HATE CLIFFHANGERS.
Cannot wait for the new series.

Okay, I'm done fangirling now. tehe

Hmm you could write about active reading vs passive reading. The 19th century reader of Sherlock Holmes stories is a passive reader, a mere spectator, whereas the modern one wants to participate, so they adapt/rewrite the stories. You could relate this to the wave of reinterpretations and spin-offs of classic literature, postmodernism's tendency to play with intertextuality and reader-response theory. Or you could write about how classic literature is taking the role of religion in contemporary society as the moral driving force (and relate this, ermm, to the relationship between Sherlock and Watson, perhaps?), but that's a bit boring, possibly pretentious. I'm a bit boring, possibly pretentious. Sorry.

I actually had some time to talk it over with my professor today and she said that contrasting and comparing the target audiences of both mediums would be a good one.
So I'm focusing my paper on that.

    ~reviving the thread.

It just started airing in Australia recently. I don't think I've even read a Sherlock Holmes book before but I love the show. And I like that the eps are long as well. x]
