Depending on how they fit with each other, I put them so that my favorite books are closer to my tv, for two reasons, if I need to get at them for some reason, and because the books farthest from my tv are kind of blocked off in a way. Yeah, I think it's kinda weird...

If I were rich I would love to have a little room, almost like a walk in closet but a little bigger. That would be like a little library so I could keep all my books. But since I have a small room, I stack them beside my bed. Sometimes when I'm bored I put them in alphabetical order, or even what colours look pretty beside other colours...Yup, I'm a strange'un.

I used to have them arranged by genres. Like, horror books together, comedy books together, etc..
But then I got too much books and didn't have enough room to do that so I shoved them in whatever way but I had to sell a lot of my books cos I didn't have room and I had grown out of them so now they're in alphabetical order. :D

I have a very small room, and save for my bed and wardorbe its nothing but shelves.

Mine are divided by series/authour save for the 'good' shelf and of course, only exceptional books go there and its the only one I have them in a specific order.

Then I have the shelf of stand alone books or books I only have one of by the authour .

The only shelf that isn't organised isn't in my room and its the books I don't read often, that I won't read for a good year or more so I don't feel the need to keep them all organised.

My comic books are organised by publisher, then by character then by series which are all in issue numbers. All linked characters are kept together, so say my Nightwing is with my Batman, but I arrange the plots in chronilogical order and its insane on that shelf.

I have mine semi-arranged by genre and semi-arranged by space. And occasionally by author, if they write mostly the same type of novel.

Vampire books take up about a shelf and a half, then it's on to Harry Potter and other magical things. Then fairies, demons, futuristic-type books, sci-fi, "chick lit", and what I refer to as "problem books"--things like Running With Scissors and Fight Club and books about eating disorders and mental issues.

On my second bookshelf, I have all of those "rich kids at private school" books like Kate Brian's Private series and Gossip Girl and all that. Then there's "Brit chick lit", like the Georgia Nicholson series and the Mates, Dates series. From there it segues into historical books, books I've had to read for school, a bunch of Fruits Basket volumes, and other random books that don't belong anywhere else. And then there's the non-fiction and self-help books, followed by things I read when I was younger.

And I have the Series of Unfortunate Events books and assorted DVDs shoved in randomly wherever there's space. XD

I have mine sorted by series, then genre and preference. No one is aloud to touch my bookshelf. If they do there are serious consquences.

Whoa, epic guys :D I just finished organizing mine like two days ago. I put all my favorites, and books that I havent read but I KNOW i'm going to like on the first shelf. Then its all the hard cover or big books on the next shelf in alphabetical order(A lot of my books are by the same author, so I put those together, and series I kept together and in order) And if there was a soft cover book that belonged to series that I had mainly in hard cover, I kept those together.

Then I put all the paper back covers in alphabetical order, and in series together. I also put all my school subject; non-entertainment books stacked up in a corner of the bookcase.

    File

And all my graphic novels/manga's are stacked on the bottom of the bookcase :) No particular order because I don't own series I only have the first book of a manga series.

    Coffee Took me all day.

I try to organise by genre & author within the genre but currently they're just wherever because my books can't fit on my bookshelf anymore. I'm a massive bibliophile that it's almost pathetic. XD

Mine are in alphabetical order by author. I don't have any more space left though, so a bunch of them are just piled around my room. But my Lord of the Rings/Tolkien ones have like a shrine on a really high shelf so no one will touch them. tehe

I don't really have any orders to mine (except I do put books by the same author together). I do have a 'favourites' shelf, though. Harry Potter is right in the middle. tehe I also have an LGBT section, but other than that, they're not in any order at all. I don't like to have too many books of the same colour/size in a row, though. It creeps me out and I don't fully understand why. XD

I just keep books of the same size together. If I buy a few books at the same time then they normally get put together regardless of how they're related. I should really reorganise everything but I'm too lazy XD

    By genre and size. I.e.

Horror books would be on one shelf, romance on another.

Then Biggest to smallest, starting on the left.

All the books I haven't read yet, would have their own shelf. Ones that I'm supposed to lend to friend or ones that I'm borrowing would be in a pile on the second top shelf.....

Because I have so many books, I have three different bookshelves. The first is my general fiction area downstairs, which is ordered alphabetically by author, then title, except for series, which I put in numerical order by the name of the series.

The second are my collections, which are in a shelf and my desk shelves in my room. All are organized again by alphabetical, then numerical order if there's a series. So, the Stephen King's are all in alphabetical order, along with my Garfield comics, Star Trek books, and Tolkien collection.

Last, but not least, my comic trade paperbacks are in yet another bookcase in my room. These are sorted by title, and the series are sorted in numerical order.

I'm very nitpicky about how they're ordered, I guess it comes from working at the library. My job is basically to put books back on the shelves and put them back in proper order XD
