--Every time I go to comment on a thread in the Books section you always have something awesome to write.

Everybody except Rue in The Hunger Games trilogy
    Everybody in the Twilight series
    Everybody in City of Bones
    ____
    Bastian from The Neverending Story
--His personality is believable and the reasons behind his wretchedness are understandable, but I can't help but despise how weak willed and self serving he is, even for an eleven year old.

    Zoey from House of Night
--I cannot relate to such a shallow nothing.

    Sosie, from Beauty Queens
--I understand that sometimes girls just need to experiment and have fun, but she hurt Jennifer, and I cannot accept that.

Pippa, from the Gemma Doyle trilogy
--She is annoying, clingy, shallow, and unfairly beautiful. Yet, she has a fan club..Boo..

    Dimitri Belikov, from Vampire Academy
--Boring, undedicated, uptight, meat head who gets way too much screen time. Screw you, Dimitri. Screw you. (Of course, my hatred towards him could just be because he was the main love interest as opposed to Adrian, and I am a total Adrian fangirl.)

    Napoleon, from Animal Farm
--He's meant to be an unlikable character, but I find him still deserving of this list. He is a hypocritical, tyrannical, deceiving jerk.

Wow, I was really expecting my list to be more detailed and long. Hm.

    Odysseus
--He is overly prideful. He cheats on Penelope then has the audacity not only to expect her to remain faithful, but weep when he misses her. Ha, I wrote an essay in Englsih class for extra credit on all the reasons why I do not like Odysseus, but I can't really remember most of my points now.

Katniss Everdeen - She doesn't seem to really have a personality. Or, at least, it didn't seem like she did when I read The Hunger Games.

Hunter from Fallout by Ellen Hopkins - He is such a jerk. He's so full of himself, and he flirts with so many girls, when he has the perfect girlfriend. And he makes it seem like every child that has had parents who are drug addicts/alcoholics has major issues. When that is not the case at all. Some of us grow up to have a decent life.

Zoey Redbird - Ugh. How do I even describe her? She's such a whore. I am sorry, I do not condone calling people whores, but seriously. She had three or four boys at once. And she's so conceited.

There are more. I just can't remember them right now. But there are more, trust me, there are more...

Theon Greyjoy from A Song of Ice and Fire. Just...he's so horrible. The Starks treated him like a son and he went and betrayed them! And he kills children. I'm not sure I've ever wanted to punch a fictional character quite so much.

I've posted here already, but that was quite a while ago. Now that I've really thought about it, I have a list and reasons.

    Girls:
Sephy Hadley-Noughts And Crosses by Malorie Blackman
It's a series of generally good books (or so I thought at the time) and the first book in particular is very controversial, powerful and shocking. So with a story line like that, I expected her to be strong and a fighter. She wanted equality, so she was going to be a good heroine and help Callum get away from the LM, but no. She continuously gave up. She turned to alcohol. She left Callum behind when it was clear he wanted to be with her. She was just a disappointment.

Ketty-The Medusa Project by Sophie McKenzie
I have never met such a stereotypical character in my life. She was awful. For those of you who haven't read it, she's a girl who, I quote, 'has dark curly hair in a ponytail, tied back with string. She doesn't go in for girly things like a ribbon-she's practical. Doesn't wear loads of make up or jewellery and I've never seen her in a dress.' She's a typical author's tomboy. And her personality made me want to throw up.

    Boys:
Will Parry-His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
For those who only ever read Northern Lights, or have only seen the film The Golden Compass, you won't know who Will Parry is. But for those who do, you probably think it's a strange choice. It's not that I necessarily hate him, but he changed Lyra, and the books in general, so much. I think it's because he's from our universe, and that brought a sense of normality to the books (even though the last book is certainly not normal. The fight with Asriel, Coulter and the Angel? Insane.) and I didn't really want them to become normal. I enjoyed all these parallel universes and then Will gets thrust in and it became just any old book again.

    Fang-Maximum Ride by James Patterson
He's not too bad, I guess, but I still don't like him. I think up until we got his third person POV, he was more hateful. The way he was the 'strong and silent' one really annoyed me. His personality wasn't developed much, and didn't reach further than him being an angry, shy person who can't control their temper.

James Potter I (Harry Potter) - He was a rude, vile, nasty, vicious, wicked, egotistical, arrogant bully and a complete tosser. He lacked respect for other people and he never grew up. He was an immature brat who rarely cared for other people.

Debbie Pelt from the Southern Vampire Mysteries. She was just a total b-word and was nothing but unkind to Alcide. And then she tried to go and kill Sookie. She deserved what she got.

Mia from The Mortal Instruments - You're a werewolf, you hold a grudeg against the boyfriend that turned you. ENOUGH ALREADY. And then you go and sleep with him. Have some dignity

Johnathan Christopher Morgenstern from The Mortal Instruments. He tried to rape his sister. Not cool bro.

Haven from The Immortals series. C'mon. Ever gave you that power to save you, and you shouldn't listen to Roman. I'm glad he's dead. Stop being so stubborn and be Ever's friend again!

    The Females

Brienne of Tarth from 'A Game of Thrones' - Okay, I'll start this off by saying that George R. R. Martin can not write a realistic and strong female character. His female characters are always either beautiful, submissive tools or ugly, bland freaks. Cersei Lannister is the only exception, but that is a whole other ball game. Brienne of Tarth exemplifies the idea that a strong woman must be ugly, stupid, naive, and unlovable. Admittedly, the entire world is kind of rough, and no one is a shining emblem of strength and virtue, but Brienne is pretty much the anti-feminist. It wouldn't be so bad if she had one decent quality. Her supposedly 'redeeming' features are her loyalty and sense of duty. Unforchantly, Brienne's redeeming characteristics can be found in any mutt, and I wouldn't want to read a dog's point of view either. She isn't a strong female character, and in fact, she is a mockery of such a character.

Bella Swan from 'Twilight' - I hate her because so many young girls want to hold her up as a shining example of virtue and true love. I hate her because a generation of females is now being taught stalkers and boyfriends are, for all practical purposes, the same thing. I hate her because she was weak, dependent, whiny, and easily bullied into believing Edward's will was her own. I hate her because she hated herself, and acted like she needed Edward and Jacob to fix her. She has the attitude and personality of a doormat. I hate her because she was perfectly cloaked in the glowing facade of Mary-Suedom, and never developed into a true character. Bella is a disgrace.

    The Males

Renly Baratheon from 'A Game of Thrones' - When I realized there was going to be a LGBT couple in GoT I was really excited... That was until I met Renly. Renly is such a stereotypical pansy that his personality alone was enough to draw my ire. I usually need to see some seriously incriminating evidence to hate on a character, but Renly didn't sit right with me from the beginning. He was selfish and immature, self-entitled and hedonistic, weak willed and spoiled. He never made a good decision, and he frequently alienated everyone around him that wasn't a Tyrell or one of his personal worshippers. He never had what it took to be king.

Franklin Plaskett from 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' - He was such a fake, and even worse yet, he was an enabler. Kevin was the kind of monster that could fester and grow like mold when left unchecked. Eva tried to deal with her son, but Franklin consistently would undermine and vilified. He never gave his wife a chance, and he gave his son far too many. Franklin's willful ignorance and 'wholesome' idealism is, in my humble opinion, a large contributing factor to the book's tragic ending.

Most of the characters from The Hunger Games trilogy were awful. Finnick was one of the only decent characters, and even he was only good because he seemed charming.

Does Maka Albarn from Soul Eater count? That's a graphic novel, though.
    She's so WHINY! BLECH!

I absolutely hate Bella Swan. I can't quite put my finger on it, but she's just so useless. She gets everyone into so much freaking trouble.

There's a girl named Nora in a book called hush, hush (Yes, without capitals.) and I don't like her. It's another one of those Twilight-esc books, but with Fallen Angels, and she's just oblivious. While I would be thinking, "Screw you guys, I'm running away." she STICKS with her gaurdian angel that tried to kill her... God, stupid.

Peeta Mellark. Is that how you spell it? God, I hate him. He just adds useless conflict to the Hunger Games. Not only is he pretty much ALWAYS the one near-death, but he is like the boulder blocking everyone from getting out of a cave alive. Just an obstacle that's better off dead.

Tony Stark Shifty He's a good character, I just can't stand his personality. The "I'm an asshole but it's cool 'cause I'm rich and funny" thing never appealed to me.

Katniss Everdeen. I think she's horribly full of herself and not believable at all. Actually, not much about that

Lucy fucking Steele from Sense and Sensibility. Twitch Anne was fine though.

    Holden Caulfield. Grr

At first I thought he was really interesting in that unconventional way, especially when it got into how he interacted with other people at his boarding school, and I loved Catcher in the Rye as a whole, but by the end of the book I was just like are you kidding me? I couldn't sympathize for him at all because he seemed to be making up problems out of the blue like a cry for attention. And I get that the hypocrisy was intentional, but meh.

Oh boo-hoo I have better suitcases than someone else.

Sometimes I liked his perspective on things, but other times I was just like cry me a river, why don't you?

^^ I could go on for days about how much I hate Holden Caulfield, and that dreadful book in general. He's one of those characters I just wanted to slap the entire book.

Christian Grey from Fifty Shades of Grey. Another book which I really don't like, though the difference is that this one is horribly written while at least Catcher in the Rye is written well. I'm only 200 pages in and I want to kick him in the face, I can't begin to understand why Anastasia would up with him. No matter how hot he is, I'd be life "hell no bitch", and I'd probably castrate him in his sleep. I have a lot of anger towards him. I feel like there should be a drinking game where everytime he says something douchey or she mentions her "inner goddess" you take a drink. That's one way to get drunk off your ass... though you may have to get your stomach pumped. Oh and Anastasia is obnoxious too.

Gene from A Seperate Peace, he's a freaking sociopath which is usually interesting but since he doesnt acknowldge it it's just frustrating.

Ash from the Iron Fey series. 100% one dimensional, and it's upsetting that Megan chooses him when Puck is in love with her. Puck actually has a sense of humor and is adorable.

Lucas from the Evernight series, another book series I despise. And while we're at it I also hate Bianca she has to be my least favorite protagonist to read about, ever. And that includes fifty shades of f**ked up.

Claudia from the vampire chronicles because she is a little ungrateful biotch.

Astrid from the gone series by Michael Grant because I just hate her with every fiber of my being. Also little Pete, I understand he is autistic but my god he messed everything up.

I'm going to stop here. I think it's really bad that there are more characters that stand out to me because I hate them then ones that stand out to me because I like them.

Bill Compton from The Southern Vampire Mystery Novels / Sookie Stackhouse Series.
Peeta Mellark, do you want to be more boring and annoying? It was all for the cameras.
Katniss Everdeen (at times) she can be very callous when it suits her.
Elena Gilbert is the biggest Mary-Sue character ever with her perfect blonde hair and amazing powers of 'look at me'.
Diana in the Secret Circle Books - pointless, pointless, pointless.

This may be quite an unpopular opinion but I don't see the problem with Nora Grey from the hush, hush series. I thought she was okay. What did people not like about her?

    Bella Swan from Twilight.
She just seems to have no personality and I think it's totally unhealthy to have her whole life revolving around Edward. Don't even get me started on what she puts Jacob through.

Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter: She is the devil.
Bella Swan from Twilight: Must I really explain this?
Hermione Granger from Harry Potter: I just find her really annoying, I don't know why. And now you're all going to stab me like Julius Caesar, just because of this.
Everyone from Fifty Shades of Grey.
Zoey Redbird from House of Night: I stopped reading the series after the third book because that's when I realized I hate her.
Pip from Great Expectations: Just don't even talk about him with me.

I was going to go on a rant about Zoey Redbird and Bella Swan and possibly a few other characters, but then I realized that people had already made tangents about them - so it would be redundant for me to do that same.

William Crimsworth in The Professor by Charlotte Bronte.

I only read half the book because he annoyed me so much. He just complained about everything. The book was a long description of how he didn't like his job, and then how he didn't like his new job teaching in a girls school. Long descriptions of his students and how he didn't like them.

Also, suddenly he was in love with this woman, and two pages later...? Nope. She was with another man. Was Crimsworth bothered? He was in love with her after all!
    Not at all.
It was not within reason to be upset.
Back to complaining about his job.

I enjoyed Jane Eyre and Villette, but this book I reaaly didn't.

Juliet Capulet (Romeo and Juliet) - She was a stupid, temperamental teenage girl who throws logic to the wind and is willing to throw everything away for Romeo. She's the original Bella Swan, only with more money and more personality.

    Males

Romeo Montague (Romeo and Juliet) - He's the epitome of a Gary Stu. He was depressed, whiny, dramatic, and rushed everything. He didn't think clearly once during the play and would drop everything for Juliet. The original Edward Cullen, only dumber, non-vampire, and more vengeful.

Friar Lawrence (Romeo and Juliet) - He was everything a friar should not be. He helped the titular characters lie and deceive other people as well as encourage them to go behind everyone's backs and suggest methods of trickery to get Romeo and Juliet out of trouble, mainly to save his own rump.

    THIS. Especially Friar Lawrence.

I'm surprised by the lack of hate for anyone 50 Shades of Grey related, or are we pretending that abomination never happened?

The leads in that were utterly atrocious. Christian Grey is an abusive asshole hiding behind the guise of a "Dominant." The minute he said "I like beating little brunette girls because they remind me of my whore of a mother" his poorly disguised intentions were out in the open. No like or respect for a character like that, especially when he manages to out stalker his base character, Edward Cullen. I get angry even thinking about the readers I've seen defending his character by the only means they could: "stupid feminists just don't understand him. Go sell your crazy elsewhere." (Yes I've actually been told that.)

His counterpart Anastasia Steele is no better. She tolerates his malicious, controlling behavior and the one time she does leave him for beating her it takes less than a week for them to get back together. Not to mention her unrealistic willingness to go along with his "Red Room of Pain" despite still being a virgin. No, thats not practical or logical and just lends to what an underdeveloped, poorly written character she is.

I know it started off as a Twilight fan fiction but the fact the two managed to actually be worse characters than Edward and Bella is still astounding.
