I see what you mean but you never hear about people starving here getting help. sure other countries should get help but lets not just give everything to them.

Today I printed off brochures for a woman who just started the first non-profit in my town that will collect food that can't be sold, but is still good to eat from events, restaurants, etc. and distribute it to people in need in the city.

There are food banks and programs in schools that give children food to take home so they aren't hungry at night.

Yes, people are starving here, but yes, they are receiving some help rather than none.

We never hear about things like food stamps, FEMA, the Red Cross, Food Pantries, can drives, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, free lunches for poor kids.... are we talking about the same America? Not to mention, when people starve to death in America, it's not usually because they have no access to food (think child abuse, eating disorders, etc.)

I also think you would be surprised how little of America's "foreign aid" goes to helping increase the food supply. 20% of our entire foreign aid budget goes to Israel, a developed country.

    Dear United States,

Please look to Canada for an example on what to do. Stop messing up. You're pissing off a lot of your citizens.

You're such a beautiful place to live despite your faults. Don't make it worse.

    America,

Facepalm I really hate the way we socially reward snarky and thoughtless comments. How an insult is considered to be a winning argument; how a slanderous comment is considered to be news. I hate that being sincere and reaching out to people can backfire so easily because people form bonds over complaining together and making small talk about celebrities, television, and the controversial behavior of the people we glorify. I hate the way you teach us to harp on mocking the success of others and turning on them the moment they do something obscene or destructive, as if it isn't our society that caused it to happen. I hate the way we pride ourselves for being incompetent, but spite the people who have what we want. I just don't like the foundations of the American community at its regular state. We may have advanced, but we are still intolerant and rush through life, forgetting what is meaningful, and neglecting the nourishment of our souls in order to buy short-term material pleasure. It makes me sad, how much we miss because of what we accept as a country and what we show disdain for.
