    Lock/move if necessary.

Music composition; writing your own music, whether it's for school or just for fun.
We are required to compose music for GCSE Music at school, but I write stuff for fun at home.

So, any budding Mozarts here? Cute

    Eh, I try to anyway.

Writing my poetry is one thing, but applying it to the chord progressions and guitar solos I'm always coming up with is a real challenge. xD

I try, at least. I'd say my biggest issue is that I'm never really happy with what I come up with music wise.

I'm much the same. When I first started to compose, being the perfectionist I am, I always wanted it to sound as good as the kind of music I hear on Classic FM. Ridiculous really. The thing to remember is that most songs you hear are written by people who have had years of training. You'll improve anyway, with time, so don't stress about it not sounding amazing. Cute

I write my own compositions, I don't know how many songs I've written but I know that with each one I write they get better. I've written 3 instrumentals (off the top of my head xD) but I have certain ways of writing them down because I can't read music Facepalm That's wthe worst part because they just look messy.

I need to get a copy of Cubase 5 for my laptop so I can start recording. I love how complex and dynamic you can make things with Cubase In Love

It's not just the not sounding amazing part, but I just have the habit of just... changing songs, all the time. I'll take a song I wrote a year ago and add in extra chords, or a new melody.

Nothing is ever really finished with me. xD

Me and my brother started a band. I'm the singer. The only reason I do the song writing is because I'm the ONLY one in the band that can come up with lyrics and a beat! Eat that Kai!!!

Sometimes I go through periods of time where I'm like, "I'm going to write a musical and it shall be amazing!" and I come up with song, write down the lyrics and come up with a melody, but that's it, because I don't know how to compose.

On the other hand, I may be taking piano lessons soon so maybe that will prove useful.

I love, love, love writing songs. I used to be awful at coming up with catchy/good rhythms and melodies, but I've been writing for years and in a band for about a year now. I've noticed that writing poetry definitely helped with my songwriting. At the moment, I'd like to work on writing songs with more meaning or are just deeper in general because most of my songs are just silly or stereotypical.

I love writing music! I have (almost) an entire notebook filled of songs! My signature is even some lyrics I wrote. I have more in a notebook haha

I'm halfway through making my first album. I do everything. The lyrics, the bass, the guitar, the drums, the vocals, backing, piano, synths, anything that is on the track... It's me :).

I might end up trying to redo some of my songs, they all sorta sound the same. I also do not tend to stick with one genre. I've done metal, alt rock, electronica, rap, mainstream pop, and classical. I'm up for collab or whatnot. Just a PM away.

Ive been writing songs since I was like 5. They started out as horrible attempts at love songs, even though I had no experience with love. I honestly tried to write like a grown woman. FAIL. They then evolved into real experiences with little 4th grade romances and whatnot, that was my pop/country stage. Finally, around 6th grade when I started having depression and self harming, all my songs were just full of emotion and everything else inside of me. Those were the ones I was proud of. I also began playing bass last year. My biggest inspirations are BVB, PTV, and SWS at the moment. <3

I've been composing instrumentals ever since I was 12! They're really fun. I've been trying to get into producing Synth/Electronic Pop lately but I take such a long time choosing which electronic sounds to use. xD So I spend like maybe three times more surfing through sounds than actually composing. I've played bassoon, piano, guitar, clarinet, and percussion and it helps me a lot in creating harmonies. My lyric-writing friend usually writes the words to my instrumentals when we feel like it needs them.

When I was really young I wrote songs (lyrics anyway) about owls dancing in the moonlight and stereotypical pop love songs that were bad. Then when I was around 12 I started writing about ghosts and being cheated on even though I had no experience with neither, haha. when I was in high school I wrote super duper PunX songs that were anti-Bush, anti-government, anti-religious, and basically anti-life. Then I briefly wrote ridiculous silly songs. Then from 2006 or 2007 until now I basically just write songs about how I feel and shit. Though from 2006-2008ish they were wayyy too wordy and sometimes when I read them back now even I don't know what some of the words mean (because I used a thesaurus when I was writing them, haha).

I also write stuff on guitar and bass. Sometimes I can add some other instruments, but it's mostly just the general idea since I can't really play anything else. Except a tine bit of saxophone, and even smaller amount of ukulele, haha.

I've been composing for years. I study music at university with more of a business and engineering focus, but I've always had that love for mucking around on an acoustic guitar and creating something completely chilled-out. I'm also a huge fan of composing stuff intended to be used in symphonies and orchestras -- I'm currently waiting on my MIDI keyboard for my birthday so that I can start it back up as I moved from a PC to a Mac and I don't have Guitar Pro any more. Manuscript is expensive so I prefer to use computer programmes to set everything up, but I have a basic knowledge of most 'main' instruments in order to compose physically on an instrument as well. The only instruments I don't have the basic skill set for are string instruments, but I'd change that if I were allowed a violin, haha!

Something I've been really into lately though is electronic and ambient music composition. I just think there are a lot of ways to explore it and some of the stuff I've heard is simply incredible. I had aways written it off beforehand, but it really is a wonderful genre to compose within.

They make Guitar Pro for Mac, I recently switched too and I still use Guitar Pro all the time! Of course I couldn't find a free version online and had to buy it, but it's still definitely worth it! lol.

I haven't written a proper song, with music and everything, since I was sixteen. I loved doing it - it was part of my music GCSE too!

I'm always writing lyrics but my only instrument is my voice and I have trouble coming up with decent tunes. They all sound like amateur, GCSE composition style songs, y'know? My bestie plays piano but he's classically trained so it would be difficult for us to compose together because he can't really do pop music. I'd love to compose proper music, be in a band and stuff. My friend still has one of my GCSE compositions - I hate it lol.

I think there are a lot of people out there who can only really write lyrics and excel in that, and others who can't write lyrics at all but really excel in writing the music. The trick is getting those two people together so they can put their brains together and create an awesome, complete piece where they can both use their skills to create something amazing. I think it's probably pretty rare for every member in a band to be able to write complete songs on their own. Even if they can write most of it there might be one thing they can't do (like, I can write lyrics, guitar, and bass, but I would be completely lost trying to put the drums to it), or even if some members can write complete songs on their own, it's always nice to have other musicians around to give their suggestions and make the song the best it can be. I think you'd make a great vocalist and lyricist for a band, you just need to find some talented musicians to work with you/back you up :)
