    Mr W. H.:
But they shouldn't try to guilt people into agreeing with them by suggesting how awful it is to be called a slut while they themselves call other people slut. It's just hypocritical.
That's not what I was getting at. I was making a broad statement. If everyone agreed to disagree on this subject, I wouldn't get called a whore/slut on a weekly basis. I wasn't singling the user out as the reason for that happening to me, but the user did bring up something I wanted to make a point of.

What frustrates me is how a man can be referred to as a 'slut' and have it be a good thing to gain peer group status. I once saw a pathetic Facebook group that read something like, "A lock that can be opened by many keys is a poor lock. A key that can open any lock is a master key." The key being a metaphorical penis; the lock a vagina.

I'd just like to point out that the original meaning of 'slut' is an untidy/dirty man or woman tehe

    --

    I also found this:

'A slut is a person of any gender who has the courage to lead life according to the radical proposition that sex is nice and pleasure is good for you.'

By most people's ideas, I'm a slut. Why? Because I am open about sexuality; mine or others. I've only slept with three people, all of whom I have been in very serious relationships with, to some having three partners "out of wedlock" makes me a slut, to other's it doesn't.

I have a daughter. I must be a slut. Or, whilst having sex with my committed boyfriend at the time there was a mishap in birth control and I was impregnated. I love my daughter, I carried her full term and birthed her and kept her. I must be a raging slut because I'm not married and I'm not above the age of 25.

I dress how I want. If I want to show cleavage in a nice shirt or dress, if I want to wear a mini-skirt without tights - you guessed it, slut. And I can't be arsed to care if that makes me a "slut" in someone's eyes. As a woman, I have all right to dress in a way I feel good and comfortable. Maybe micro-mini skirts don't work for you, that's fine. But why is showing skin slutty? How does it make any woman a slut? Because the world has been anti-woman since the dawn of bloody time? It's not the 50s anymore, I embrace my right to be a "slut" if it makes me one by what I wear.

I find the term so ridiculous, but what I find worse is slut-shaming. As a woman I can experiment and sleep with whoever the hell I want so long as we're both consenting adults aware of the consequences and boundaries. So, I have slept with three people all of whom agreed and encouraged us both to have sex. Does this make them sluts, too? Because they've had other partners or because they're with me? Or no, because they've been men? [On that topic, does my ex girlfriend and I fit the criteria of being sluts because we were in a lesbian relationship and that is still so taboo? How does that work?]

Is the term slut only for women? Because women must fit the mould of society to cover ourselves and not draw attention to our behinds or breasts? It is such a vague term with too many flaws and if someone wants to call me a slut I have no issue. I don't think it's bad at all. Hell, I wanted to do the slut-walk after that campus police officer told the woman who got raped it was her fault for dressing in a provocative manner.

Women, you can dress however the fuck you want - it doesn't make you a "slut". Women, you can have sex with whoever you like if you want so long as they too agree - it doesn't make you a "slut" [or if you think it does, embrace the Hell out of it]. And women, hey, if you want to be called a slut because you really don't care, go right ahead and embrace your sexuality! Sex is beautiful, positive and pleasurable; no sense having to hide every bit of it for fear of being a slut!

And if you like to cover up, abstain from sex or sexuality altogether until the perfect moment for you, that is perfectly okay too! We're all different - so who cares if someone is having sex or dressing sexy? "Slut" by your standards or not, it's their life.

I'd say a slut is generally a person who goes out seeking sexual attention from many men and/or displays herself as a "fuck hole". I don't care who or how many men you slept with, I don't need to know.. unless I'm your best friend or something.

This is a really late reply, I just haven't been on the site much as of late:
    Mr W. H.:
So if I were to call a man a slut that wouldn't be an unnecessary, hurtful insult, but social justice?
No, it just wouldn't hold the same weight as if you were to call a woman a slut.
    dru's wandering.:
I don't think trying to make someone feel ashamed is the same as oppressing them.
The two concepts can be interwoven. Shaming is a technique often used by somebody if they are attempting to oppress somebody else. This can especially be the case if it is to do with sex and sexuality.

When most people refer to sluts, they aren't talking about males. Some people like yourself have called men sluts, but them being 'offended' doesn't change the fact that it's an insult that is primarily directed at women.

What does the fact that it's primarily directed at women mean? You said if you called a guy a slut it wouldn't carry the same weight, but perhaps to that man it does. You can't say that just because he has a dick he won't be as offended as a women.

I've started using the world 'slut' much more casually, not really as an insult, but more just to refer to someone who has a lot of sex or has had a lot of sex and enjoys it and is happy about it. I'm a slut by that definition.

I agree with Veronika on this one; about males being less insulted by the term 'slut'. Males I've met have laughed at being sluts, they think it's hilarious and wave it off as being a 'female thing'. I too think it's more of an insult to females, because that's how loosely it's thrown around and that, for a very long time, was primarily where it was directed.

As a side note, if I was called a slut, I'l lol and go eat my popcorn.

Slut is such a subjective and irrelevant insult, in my opinion.

How about that topic of "whore" and "slut" being same or different.

To me, 'whore' means prostitute and you have to get paid (in some way) for that term to be accurate, not that anyone cares about insulting people accurately.

Guess it depends on the guys.

Have you ever met a slut then? Because most women that society deems 'slutty' (that I've met) are more particular than 'anything with a cock'. Additionally, do you think only straight women can be sluts?

When I think of a slut, I think of a girl who wants to be known as someone who sleeps around with tons of people, who wants people to think of her as a slut. With the purpose of getting attention.

I don't think only straight women can be sluts. Homosexual or even bisexual women can be sluts. No matter what the gender is, they can still sleep around with tons of people and want to be known as a sex object.
I've never met a slut, but trust me, from the stories I've read and the high school movies, I think I can tell a slut when I meet one, or at least get to know one.

For men...it's pretty much used in a different way. I've never heard someone call a man a slut. I don't really know what to call men. Hmm.

Scratch everything I wrote before. I found a better way to sum it up: I don't think sluts exist. I've used the word, of course, to insult or hurt someone, or gossip about them, but I don't believe in sluts. Fuck who you want, when you want, as often as you want. Just have some self-respect and do it only because you want to enjoy the pleasure of your own body and someone else's.

I hate using terms like slut and whore. I find them to be really ugly words.
But I am still 'old fashioned' so I don't like the idea of a guy or girl having multiple sex partners at the same time and I'm a bit uncomfortable with provocative behaviour. But I don't know exactly how to classify a 'slut.'
I think as you stated in the start.
It's the attitude that they carry that might make the seem a bit... Ah promiscuous.

Someone who does things sexually for a reason. Someone who only dresses in revealing clothing for a reason. And someone who basiclly dates loads of people for sexual reasons and sleep around.

I "do things sexually" for a reason--the reason being I like expressing my affection for my significant other in a physical way. Does that make me a slut? I only wear shorts/dresses for a reason--I'm generally uncomfortable in long pants and don't like the way they make my legs look. Does that make me a slut? I've have oral sex with five boys and kissed ten "for sexual reasons"--because I wanted to. Does that make me a slut? Even if I was genuinely interested in each of them?

Personally, with all honesty, I feel that some people should be more cautious about who they have sex with, how many people they have it with, and how often, especially teenagers, like you engine. The biggest reason is because of the responsibilities that come with it, and the distraction it causes. I feel the more the media seems to want to celebrate sex and sometimes almost praise it isn't very good because I've noticed with each generation, children are participating in sexual activities at much younger ages. It's even apparent with a lot of mibba writers.

I think our society has gotten too lose when it comes to judging wrong and right. I'm not saying sex is wrong, but I don't feel teens should be having it especially since a lot of us don't want to take on the responsibilities that may come with it. We live in a system where sex at a young age could put us in high risks for a lot of the things sex can cause and yet the ages just keep decreasing for the people who are doing it. I believe sex should be much more sacred than how we treat it in this day and age.
To me a slut is someone who has sex like a whore, dresses like a whore and acts like a whore, only they're not getting paid.
