My veiw on the meaning of life is this: the meaning of life is to search for a meaning in life. Let me explain using an anology. A new highschool graduate who doesnt have any goals doesnt really do anything. he mostly just sits around and watches for tv, so he gets no where in his life. but a new graduate is is motivated to acheive some goal will at least attempt to reach it. he will work hard and discover new things about himself and the world. If we did not search for the meaning of life, whether through religion, science, or philosophy, then we would all just sit down and do nothing. but when we are searching for one then we are motivated to find out knew things. and with that mindset we will, and already have, achieve(d) graet things. i was wondering about everyone elses.

The answer I believe is 42.

On a more serious note, though, I'd say that there is no meaning. We give ourselves meaning through our own views and validations.

There is none. In my opinion. I don't think there needs to be. I'm really big on the idea of just living a good life, regardless of whether it means anything or not. But the idea of living a good life seems a lot more attractive to me if it's a good life that's happened for no reason.

I don't think you need to know the meaning of life to know that it's most probably not watching tv all day long. I mean, I do feel like my university degree is to a certain degree meaningful, but I don't spend hours and hours in the library reading about Shakespeare's grammar because I think that's why humanity was put on earth. I just enjoy working, surprisingly many people do so our civilisation wouldn't collapse into chaos if people stopped believing that their lives have a higher purpose.

Of course it wouldnt collapse, mainly because people will never stop searching how our universe was made. sience will always exist, as well as religions. and both are ways to explain the universe, and when people search for religion they are looking for the meaning of life. once again, my idea seems to pop up

^If one's religion was proven to be false, however, I'd imagine they would at least have a spiritual crisis.

well anything that is proven to be wrong has some sort of negative reaction from at least one person. it just depends on how big it is. a problem wrong on your math homework may annoy, which is a tiny tiny tiny crisis. if christianity (Purely for example) was proven to be wrong the exact same thing would happen. just on a much larger and more extreme scale.

I think people have their own meanings on what life is. Some people say it's so you live to the fullest, some people say you just go with the flow. I think life is many different things. So basically theirs no clear definition because there are so many different ways to live a life.

I think we're here to inspire and be inspired, to help people when we can, to love and be loved (not necessarily romantically). I think we're here to enjoy what we can, to learn what we can.

I remember for my philosophy test when I was a sophomore, there was only one question on the test. "Why?"
I put simply, "Why not?" and turned it in. I received a high mark.

I think as humans our purpose is to live as a community. What is man without the other?

If you take the question of 'what is the meaning of life' to mean 'what is the reason for our existence', I think we all have individual reasons for being here.
There isn't a solid answer which applies to everyone, in my opinion.

The meaning of life is whatever you believe, because whatever you believe IS yourreality. The only reason you dontsink into the ground is because you believe it will hold you up. People can fi d meani g for anything and justify it anyway... The pointis that we are the masters of our reality. Your definition of the meaning of life shapes your life, thus making your meaning true.
Here's an example if what I mean. A guy thinks the meaning of life is to make the most money, so he then sets off to make as much money as possible and becomes consumed with greed, then dies a very, very rich man. Well, themeaning of his life was money, because that is what guided his entire life, his every action. The question is not what is the meaning of life, because there is not just one ukbrella "meaning of life" or else we shold have found it by now. The reason we havent is because their isnt one, but we shape our own meaning with every move we make and every thought we thnk.

I dont think whatever you want it to be makes sense really, I think its what you believe. Sometimes you believe in things you wish you didnt or cant believe in something you'd like to, so I think whatever you believe in is a better way of saying that.

I'm sure most normal people outside of this board would say the meaning of life is to be happy and successful,
but in the long run, I'd like to be content, well-rounded, educated and soulful and spiritual.
I think the worst thing you can do with your life is to become soul-deadened and empty.
But that's just my opinion, so.

Also, I fully agree with this.

I don't think there is one. I think it's all one big hoax to torment the brain into actually working.
