Is there a philosophical quote or phrase you live by?
Perhaps you have a tattoo or a somehow constant reminder of it?
Who wrote it and where did you discover it?
Has it changed your life, and if so, how?

"It does not do to dwell on dreams, and forget to live."
    - Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore

I first found this quote sometime back in the 90's and since then it has been a constant reminder of life and what is to come. I day dream, all the time, I spent my childhood at Hogwarts; my imagination turned reality into fantasy. Making dinner, I was in potions class, science class was herbology, PE was flying lesson etc,.

I've never owed any one a greater thank you than J.K Rowling.

'No light in the darkness is too small to see.'

I actually picked it up from the Within Temptation song 'Deceiver of Fools,' and it's so true. It really helps every time I'm having a bad day, because then you can just try and remember everything that's still good in your life.

"What side of the table do you want to be on?" My ex said this all the time, referring to interviews and what not, saying you can be on the side that's being interviewed, or doing the interviewing.

There's a lot of things and books I've read that have stuck with me. Mostly, Bob Dylan's autobiography, Chronicles: Vol 1, is full of good insight on life. Andy Warhol's books are also a good read on this stuff, if you're able to dig through 'em. Woody Guthrie's, too. God, Guthrie's books bring me to tears. He went through so fucking much, but still came out unchanged and the good guy.

Don't waste energy on something you can't change.

    Example: Getting frustrated in traffic.

It's going to take however long it will take, enjoy the music.

I was homeless for a while back in 2007- 2008, during that time I got to know a number of street kids who've told me some things that have really stuck with me since. They may not be philosophers, but I think they belong here anyways. These aren't word for word, but I'll word but it's as close as I can remember.

"If you have been good to the universe and ask it for something, the universe will provide."
A guy told me that once when I was feeling hopeless, and then pulled out a headlamp from his backpack (like the ones miners wear on their hats) and told me how he was wanting one and someone had just walked up to him one day and gave it to him not too long prior.

    ~
"When you ride a roller coaster, do you like the drops, twists and excitement, or the end of the ride when it slows down and you're returning to the exit?"
    "The drops and excitement."
"Then why not learn to make the best of those times in your life?"

    ~
"Don't worry about blood, we can be your family."
We had been talking about how a lot of us had either messed up / broken families, or family who had turned their backs on us.

    ~
A last one Isn't a quote necessarily, but something I picked up back in my raver days that hasn't left me.
    "p.l.u.r."
    (peace, love, unity, respect)
I try my best to live by that acronym to this day.

Before you love someone else, you must love yourself because if you were ever to lose that someone, you'd be all that's left. - My momma told me this one haha. It reminds me that I should be proud of myself and love myself because I'm the only one that will always be there.

Everything happens for a reason I love this saying because it helps me comes to terms with the bad things in my life. It gives me hope that something good will eventually come out of it.
