17 for me was really important. It meant becoming a secret queen that was ready to defend her country, and begin commanding her life. I don't even remember what I did for my birthday, I just know where it got me. Maybe it's maturity, or just a knowing, but it lifted me up and got me back to my baby.
I remember now- I went to the court house, and filed a vacation motion. I felt like I could hear his voice, telling me he was so proud and loved me, I could hear him somewhere telling me Happy Birthday, darling. <3 And then 17 came again, this time in the form of a date, and my birthday was completed. That's what Joanne (sp?) said to me, that day, a few days ago. <3 Happy birthday. And she laughed and started to cry and I cried because I was smiling too.

I turned nineteen this month. It wasn't that different from turning seventeen or eighteen. You can't do anything new at seventeen, anyways. I don't like watching rated R movies, I don't smoke, I don't watch porn, so really, it's just the ability to vote that changed when I turned eighteen. Oh! and I was able to go clubbing. I think twenty-one is when things will really feel different (clubbing & bars), but otherwise, age is just a number...

But I also do agree with the girl who said she felt like it was a wake-up call. If you feel you haven't done the things you set out to do by a certain age, then it'd be frustrating. I feel the same way.

I think because in the UK 18 is the age you can drive, drink, go to clubs, vote, get married and basically be a proper adult, being 17 for me is ridiculous.

I still feel like a dorky kid, and in 12 months I'll be an adult. Crazy.

So for me, 17 is my last year of being a kid and I think it's my last year to do all the crazy stuff I wanted to do.

I don't know, feels like a land mark for me.

My mom and best friend threw me a surprise birthday party at school and then another surprise party on the weekend, which I found intense, seeing as that's the first time I'd actually properly celebrated my birthday, haha. I didn't get drunk or high or any of that business, but after everybody left I spent the rest of the night watch movies with my best over Skype and then talking to my soon-to-be boyfriend, so although -turning- 17 wasn't 'crazy' , I loved every minute of it.

This year, as a 17 year old, was a rollercoaster ride. It was my last year in high school. It was also the year I started going out and doing things that I wanted to do and adopting beliefs that I was for, rather than accepting ideas my parents handed down to me. I started to explore myself spiritually and tried to nail down who I wanted myself to be. I started to smoke, occasionally, which you might find petty or insignificant, but I wouldn't have dared to come close to a cigarette or a hookah 2 years ago. I was in a 6 month long distance relationship, starting about 6 days after my birthday and ending only very recently, which has had a major impact on me, both positively and negatively. I guess 17 was my year to go out and 'discover the world', if you will, haha.

I head off for uni in 3 months and turn 18 in about 4, so I'm bracing myself for that.

When I turned 17, all it meant was that I could go to a rated R movie without my parents. It wasn't really significant, I think the only age that was life altering was when I turned 18. I could buy my own cigarettes, and not having to have a parent with me to get piercings.

My 17th birthday was the dullest birthday I've ever had, hah. Being 17 didn't mean much to me in terms of significance. Even though I could get my driving license, I had no desire in doing so. It's just that awkward age where you're in between things. At 16 I was given a lot more responsibilites and independence, but you're not a legal adult so there's still restrictions on what you can do. But I did enjoy life at 17! I matured more and started college, so it wasn't insignificant. There's just not much you can do legally at this age.
Then again, I've been eighteen for over a month now and nothing in my life has changed at all. Well, I had one drink. Apart from that, nothing.

It's just a number for me. Nothing big's gonna happen until the eighteenth birthday. :c

When I turned 16 it was exciting cause I could go out and drink legally, and then when I turn 18 it will be exciting again cause I'll be able to do everything else I can't do all by myself right now.

But being 17? Pff. Nothing happens. Well, I've got my permit -sort of, it's more like an authorization to drive that I'll convert into a permit when I turn 18-, but I still need to drive with mom by my side. No fun.

The night before I turned seventeen, I got very drunk with friends... the next morning, my birthday, my mom took me out for sushi. It was interesting, but I wouldn't say it was exciting. If the wizarding world was real, it would be great, because I could be considered an adult, but, alas, it is the year between Sweet-16 and Welcome-to-adulthood-18.

I don't really think turning seventeen will mean much to me. My birthday is in September, so really it just clashes with starting college.

It meant nothing to me. Maybe 18 will mean something.

Seventeen meant nothing except I could legally see/buy rated R movies. 18 is when you become a legal adult in America and that's when important things happen.

Seventeen, for me, was a pretty big wake up call, actually. It hit me how close I was to adulthood and stepping into the world independently. I spent the entire year working on myself as a person, and on my relationships/friendships with other people. It was a pretty hard year, but I came out the better end of it, and found myself along the way. A lot of life lessons were learned, surprisingly.

I'm seventeen right now, and all I have to say is this has been a year of firsts for me, and right on time too, because I really haven't done anything that normal teens do in my entire life. I love being 17.

Turning 17 didn't mean shit to me to be honest. 18 didn't feel much different either, though then I could legally buy tobacco and vote lmao. Turning 20 I was kinda like "huh, I'm not a teen anymore."

    I'm waiting for 21 :)

I turned 17 some months ago and it didn't mean anything to me other than when asked my age I now said 17 and not 16. I don't think people should associate anything with their age, because we all mentally age differently. Sure, I have a year left of depending on my parents and being their responsibility, but it won't really change. I don't live near family outside my brother + parents so we tend to be closer than families I know. I don't think much will change, I will probably talk to them just as much. 17 means nothing to me.

17 was just another number to me, nothing special came with being that age, unlike 16 & 18.
