Unpopular/Controversial Opinions #3

  • People I know irl are always saying that video games and animes/cartoons are for kids. I always correct them by telling or reminding them that there are the kiddie cartoons like Dora and then there're the humorous, raunchy comedic cartoons like Family Guy, oh and the hentai (porn) genre in anime. But they still insist it's all for kids.

Actually, most animes that come Japan aren't entirely aimed at children. Sure, kids in Japan can watch animes with slightly mature themes over there, but when most animes are released outside of America, the animes are changed, editted, and cut to fit the viewing audience. In the early seasons of Pokemon, a lot of the Japanese culture themes were changed (A riceball that Brock tried offering to a Mankey was called a donut) and there were also some not-so-kiddie suitable themes that were cut out (James having inflatable breasts while wearing a bikini and rubbing on them all because Misty was lacking in the big breast department was heavily edited; The girls in Tenchi Muyo wore bathing suits in the Toonami Englished editted versions in opposed to being nude, and a lot of the original Sailor Moon episodes were either cut out completely or heavily edited due to the nudity and sexualizing of fourteen year girls in Japan... even the relationships between two lesbian characters were changed from lesbians/lovers to cousins). But that doesn't mean all cartoons and animes are for kids. Just because something is cartoony doesn't mean it's actually a show for kids.

Leave it to the US to charge you to give up citizenshipFacepalm wow, I should have seen that coming but XD now I'm going to look into if anyone else charges to given up citizenship? Think Thank you though Con

It costs £144 to renounce a British citizenship/nationality. And £823 to resume a British citizenship/nationality after renouncing it.

I don't know why someone would renounce their citizenship/nationality, though. So I guess that's my unpopular opinion. Shifty

Some people do it because they marry foreigners and fully integrate into the spouse's society by renouncing their native citizenship. Just my two cents on one reason. Cute

I fully understand wanting to renounce a citizenship, especially in the state of things today when it comes to relationships between authority/citizens in America at least. Plus, there are also other reasons, like wanting actual health care or better schooling, etc. Some people never felt like they belonged in that country to begin with.

Although my added part in this is that I think it's far too difficult to gain/change citizenship at all. I mean, even just looking at going from America to England, it costs like, 1000 pounds to get a work visa and you have to have someone sponsor you to come over unless you're part of a select list of careers/levels of education. And that's on top of the thousands that has to be spent just to fly over there and move your stuff over and get a place.

Like, politicians like to hold up numbers about people not leaving a country to show that a country is great, or even to stand up and go, 'If you don't like it here, then leave' as if they just gave some great comeback to people when it's so hard to leave in the first place. Some places are easier to move to. Like, I know Canada's requirements to move there are significantly less than England's are.

  • Tumblr is one of the worst places on the internet to have any sort of discussion about anything. I mean, comment sections are still the absolute worst, but tumblr is a close second. I say this, because no matter what you say or how much you back up your argument with facts and evidence from that fandom, people will attack you.

And I don't mean just like, attack your argument. No, that rarely happens, but even when it does, it somehow gets tangled up in the next part: personal attacks. If you disagree with that character or that ship, suddenly you're a moron or sexist or racist or whatever.

'Cause there's no way anyone could ever dislike something because of bad writing. No, it has to be an ulterior reason.

Thank you for telling me XD this is a strange concept. To pay to give up your citizenship Think also, yeah, it may come off a little absurd and extreme but I agree with with CallusedSilk said. I just have issues with the "culture" here. On top of that I highly believe something very bad is going to happen to this country within my lifetime. I don't agree with any of these world-policing actions and I don't want to live in a country that exploits other countries and their own citizens over greed. Maybe that could apply to all nations but I'll never know if I don't get a new citizenship/nationality Think If you've ever experienced any sense of nationalism, I can't see you understanding the feeling XD I've just never felt proud to be American, I'm not proud of anything this country has done.

Now, I dislike America as well and desperately want to leave, but proud of nothing this country has done?

Haven't you see how much shit we've managed to fry and how much we've done with bacon?

    It's impressive.

    --------------------------

And in other news, if another person on tumblr calls me dumb or tells me to shut up and not have an opinion, I'm going to lose my fucking mind.

Hypocrisy is far too fucking rampant on tumblr.

STOP ITlmfaolmfaolmfaolmfao I CAN'T lmfaolmfaolmfaolmfaolmfao I'm vegetarian so the bacon thing is ehShifty I sense the sarcasm but I will still agree, the things we've done with bacon is kind of impressive Think Okay, let me change what I said: besides food, I don't like anything this country has done politically on a domestic and international level. XD

Also, yeah. Tumblr is a giant pile of hypocrites IMO. The same people who reblog all these posts promoting positively get pissy the moment someone has a different opinion. It can be a great website but some of the communities are super hostile. I feel like it's almost pointless to try for a healthy debate on there because some of them pull out logical fallacies and personal attacks like no one's business. Facepalm

lmfao I'm glad that even though you're a vegetarian that you can respect the bacon thing. After all, bacon is better than true love. I totally agree about politics. Our country is all sorts of screwed up when it comes to politics. A lot of people here can't even get definitions straight. One time I politely pointed out that democract, communist and socialist aren't the same thing, and they were like, "That's just your opinion."

I hadn't engaged in an opinion discussion in a while and it went from 0 to hostile within the first reply. Like, one person literally reblogged me and posted a picture of a third grade textbook while saying I should finish my homework before I try to talk. And I just about lost my mind.

On a random side note, vegetarian bacon tastes like dog food but it's addicting Weird I won't eat the bacon but that smell Weird That comic!! lmfaolmfaolmfao "Bacon stays in your arteries for eternity" how romantic Weird What. Just. What? I would have thrown a history book and dictionary at them and asked for them allow me to give them a history and English lesson, and then let them know we'll continue the conversation after lmfao

That about sums up Tumblr, to be frank Coffee they're so aggressively confrontational that it's hard to grasp. Like ay, please respect my opinion. Don't throw out personal attacks because I have a different opinion Facepalm it would be one thing if they could respectively disagree with you. Like, that's a healthy debate IMO. You're left a little fired up but in the end it was just a debate, just a way to work on your analytical and conversational skills. It's not supposed to be a giant fight like Facepalm

  • Adding onto the Tumblr thing ^^^^ you literally can't enjoy anything or anybody without someone popping up and saying, "No you can't like this because so-and-so did this back in 2005 or oh this company believes this and now they're trash" etc etc etc.

I understand if someone or something does something or says something offensive or hurtful, it's natural to dislike them. But I mean, jeez. You literally can't like anything on there without it getting ruined.

  • Modern cartoons are brilliant. I see and hear so much crap from "90s kids" who crap on any cartoon or movie that isn't from the "golden age" of Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network or whatever but there are so many 'toons I fucking wish I had when I was growing up. The people behind the scenes nowadays are the people around my age who grew up watching Spongebob, The Simpsons, Animaniacs, ect., and there's so much depth that people overlook for no reason other than the fact that they're new.

what i would've given to have had steven universe to watch as a kid, tbh.

    ---

i actually unironically like drake's music, especially his "emotional" tracks. a lot of people seem to make fun of him for them or say that he seems fake or whatever, but tbh i think the only music of his that sounds fake is his latest mixtape.

the mockery of people's triggers is one of the most insensitive forms of ableism. just because something doesn't seem "triggering" to you doesn't mean it doesn't bring up shit for other people struggling with various mental illnesses.

  • There are two Youtube game reviewers that I still watch, but soooo many video of them nowadays blur together. I can't wrap my mind around who's known for what, since they all seem similar to me.

  • I genuinely think Russia should have won the Eurovision song contest. I don't know if it's unpopular everywhere, but it is in my flat. The girl had an amazing song, better than Sweden in my opinion.

  • I honestly think that a lot of roleplaying communities on tumblr have become so close knit, as of late, it's hard to branch out and it makes me, at least, lose motivation. That, and I think the Glee rp community (from what I've seen since I'm in it) has become extremely toxic towards one another.
