Snow White and the Huntsman is an upcoming action/fantasy film directed by Rupert Sanders. It stars Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Charlize Theron as the evil Queen, and Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman. Opening June 1st, it's the classic story retold from a darker perspective, aimed an older audience.

The summary from IMDb states "In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen."

I for one, am looking forward to this. I know a lot of people hate that Kristen was cast as Snow White, but I feel like she suits the role well- from what I've seen of the previews anyway.

Anyone else excited tho see this? Opinions on the cast/idea?

I AM EXCITED ABOUT THIS FILM. Crazy
I will be decidedly sad if the trailers are magically much much better than the actual film because it looks so deliciously awesome. How the aesthetic looks like it's from Guillermo del Toro's nightmares or something, it's glorious.

Iii think Charlize Theron is a pretty damn perfect cast for the evil Queen. After the first trailer just with her 'Give me your heart, my dear, dear Snow White', I was pretty much sold on seeing this. And I think Kristen Stewart will show the world she is a much better actress than, arguably, Twilight has allowed her to show. That and, again, the whole style of it makes it seem like it's going to be fantastically dark and gritty and I love it when anyone does that to fairytales, because the original stories are so brilliantly macabre, and I'm quite sure I will prefer this hugely to its supposed competitor in Mirror, Mirror.

I was pretty disappointed by the film to be honest, and I really wanted to like it.

Honestly, I liked it more than I thought I would, considering that I strongly dislike Kristen Stewart as an actress and the whole medieval battle type thing isn't really my cup of tea. The main reason I saw it was because I adore Charlize Theron, and her performance certainly did not disappoint. I also really enjoyed that they bothered to give her character a complex backstory (which I felt they did not do for Snow White) and a reasoning behind her behavior instead of just making her a stereotypical villain. I also thought Chris Hemsworth did an amazing job portraying the huntsman.

That being said, I felt like there were a ton of gaps in the storyline, and I felt like the film relied way too much on the visual and CGI aspects, which were absolutely breathtaking, but were in no way a substitute for plot. I also really disliked how the film was marketed as Snow White being this total badass that learns how to fight from the huntsman and takes on the queen, when that wasn't the case at all. The huntmans taught her one move, and Snow White herself barely fought at all, she was basically just a figurehead, so that was a disappointment.

Another thing that really irked me was how the relationship between Snow White and the huntsman was "tainted" by romantic aspects. From the backstory that they constructed for the huntsman, I found it very unbelievable that he would fall for Snow White considering the love that he had for his wife and the fact that it seemed he was still in the process of grieving her. I would've preferred that the relationship between them had been more platonic and purely a mentor-study dynamic as opposed to bringing in all the romance, but that's just my opinion.

Chris Hemsworth narrating sealed the deal for me from the get-go.

My boyfriend & I went to watch it and liked it very much. There were some problems & flaws, but overall we thought it was good. The only major problems we had were the fact that the gold mirror didn't make sense to him in his perspective & there was some relevance to Bella in Twilight to Kristin Stewart's acting in this movie, very unlikable. Also, it seemed like they incorporated the best parts of certain top films to make it. Which wasn't really bothersome, but new & different.
