You can report those comments, if they're not following the rules. But I know of many people that are reading the stories they're given - it's kind of a give what you'd want in return kind of thing, and I think that more people will take them seriously than you think.

This is a great idea, but I do agree with what Dru said on page one about being able to select oneshot/chaptered/completed etc.

I think more people will be inclined to use it when they know they're not going to end up with a huge, long story to read through.

I think that you should be able to select at least one tag and genre, because you can end up with a story that you just won't read, because it's for example a war story and you hate it / don't know a thing about wars...

OH DEAR GOD NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! PLEASE NO. This is ONE thing I loved about Mibba, there wasn't any comment/story swapping. I hated how on Inkpop that was the only way to get your story out there because people were such swapping snobs. GAH. Please don't do this Mibba.
There have been threads for comment swapping for years.

I'm all for comment swap, I'm enjoying using it, but it's annoying when I get stuck with fanfictions I really don't like. Not that the writing is bad just that it's bands or people that I have no interest in reading about. I think there should be some way to further narrow down the choices. Perhaps a keyword search as well?

Is there any way we can make a similar system for poetry? It seems a wonderful idea and I think it would do well to extend it to more of the site. Feedback is the purpose.
If all goes well with the story comment swap, Dujo has said he'll add the same thing for poems.

There will be more ways to narrow it down further down the line, like length and such. And it's right now possible to choose only originals (I've done that, because I don't want to read fanfictions in fandoms I don't know/like).

Quick question. How are we handling comments that say 30 characters of 'it's good', but then 170 characters of 'updated soon, please update soon, why haven't you updated, it's been a year'. I'm sorry, but that's not a comment on my writing at all.

Eh, I'd say it's 50/50. I've gotten about 50% great comments and then the rest I wonder if they did more than skim the summary. Facepalm

So I've posted up three comments and only gotten one back. Should I have already got the other two or not? Cute

Never mind, I think I just found out the answer.

Sorry, but I'm a little bit confused: after I send my comment, will an alert be sent to the other writer telling them that they need to comment on my story? :)

I think it would be cool if you could write some tags on fanfics, stories, original fics, etc for stories that you want to read. I think better comments come out of stories about bands and stuff like that that you like rather than a band/topic that you don't care about. I really think this is a good idea though!! Definitely one thing I like about the new mibba!

On the recto side, I like that this is exposing us to stories we might not otherwise read as opposed to only the narrow stories we like to read. I don't think we should be able to select only one type of fanfiction to read (A7X or Avengers or whatnot). I think we should be encouraged to broaden our horizons. After all, who does it hurt to read a story you might not otherwise read.

    ---

What I really would like is a button we can check if we believe the story we are submitting is 'extreme' or 'triggering'. (i.e.; beyond your normal hardcore sex scene, rape, incest) I have a few NC-17 stories that i would really like some comments but I am completely opposed to 'pushing' them onto readers who might be uncomfortable with reading extremely hardcore BDSM scenes. The reason I post warnings on those stories is so that uncomfortable individuals can go somewhere else.

I feel the same about rape and incest stories. Especially since most Mibbians are women and one in three women are sexually assaulted in their lifetime. I just think it's a bad idea to have a rape or incest story thrust onto someone who has good reason to not want to see that stuff.

I have a question about this feature. Does it let you choose between the length of stories you want to comment on? For example, I want a comment on a short story, one chapter. Yet, the story that I have to comment on is a full 5 chapters story.

Does it already have the choice to choose between short stories, chaptered, drabbles, poems, etc and I'm not seeing it? Or does it simply gives you any type of stories, despite the type of story you want a comment on?

No, it doesn't yet. However, I haven't been reading the full story to leave one comment if I get a chaptered story. You only need to leave one comment, so you can just pick a chapter and comment that. It will count.

I think that you should also choose what genres that you would prefer. Like, if you choose original fiction and you're a big sci-fi horror fan, you're less likely to actually read, say, a romance comedy--or vice versa.

Its coming. Dujo came up with this idea, gave us the beta, then set it loose. He'll be adding more features.

    ---

On the triggering/extreme thing. If we didn't want to select our stories for that, I think the reader should be able to 'reject' that story, give a reason, and get another.

I personally have a problem reading daddy/daughter and I would never read it, even if you paid me with a story comment. (Personal reasons.) But I shouldn't not be able to use the function because of that, dontcha think?
