Basically there's this thing called the Standard Model of particle physics. It describes the electromagnetic and weak force, which are two fundamental forces of physics. To unify these two forces, a particle is needed: the Higgs Bosun, a particle so elusive that it's been dubbed "The God Particle." Physicists at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research; but the acronym is French) and FermiLab (atom smashers) search for the Higgs.

What's your take on the Higgs?

    @ caves of steel.
A year late, but you're certainly not the only teenage girl that gets excited for science. Hand

I'm sad that this thread isn't very active. The Higgs particle absolutely fascinates me...

I'm interested in Physics and science, and I would really like to go into scientific research when I'm older. My knowledge about the Higgs is quite limited, but I do know that scientists had predicted that it existed before they even found it. Not that that sort of thing is uncommon in Science, but all the same XD

It reminds me strongly of Dust from the book Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman, and in the film The Golden Compass. The two just seem really similar in many respects, and it gets me thinking about it. Maybe Pullman was a secret scientist and he actually was onto something... haha.

Shame, I agree, but that is their downfall. We at least get to see history come about. But than after the Higgs, who knows what will comes after.
