Here I am

"That's easy for you to say but have you ever seen me have a nightmare?" she asked. Phoenix shook her head. "Some times it's just uncontrollable." she said.

Tyler shook his head. "Well the least I can do is walk you back, she knows better, she's been here long enough it's the hardest thing coming in here and trying to figure out who you really are instead of how do I hide it and who do I trust." Tyler rubbed the back of his neck.

Deric sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. He could feel himself getting frustrated. He was saying all he could but everything he said Phoenix had a rebuttal. "You're right. That girl doesn't stand a chance. Is that what you want to hear?"

Hailey bit her lip. "Actually I think I'm going to go outside. I need some fresh air after everything." she quickly turned to where she had seen other kids leave the building. She pushed the door open and felt the moist air flow through her. She smiled and took a deep breath. Not remembering that there were people aroun her, she began to command the water around her. She moved as gracefully as a river as she sent the water in different directions. She smiled softly and could5 help but giggle. She felt so free.

Phoenik sighed looking at him. "I'm just nervous alright, don't you worry about it. I'll get better." she said. Phoenix knew Deric was sensative.

Tyler smiled watching her. It was good to see her so free. Tyler grinned and headed back to his room to study. He had not only his test on his abilities but his learning streangths too.

Deric sighed and looked at her. "I'm sorry." he whispered softly. "It's just hard sometimes. Your mind says one thing but your mouth says another and I don't always know which one to respond to." he looked at her apologetically.

Hailey let the water drop all around her am he turned. She headed back toward the building. Letting her feet take her, she ended up in front of the simulation room.

"I know. I try to always tell you what's on my mind but sometimes I don't want to hear what my head already knows." she smirked. "That makes no sense right?"

Tyler smiled getting distracted thinking about Hailey.

Deroc laughed and smiled at her. "No, it makes absolutely no sense but I understand."

Hailey looked at the simulation room before taking a deep breath and stepping into the room. She looked around for a moment. It wasn't that scary she thought.

Phoenix laughed. "Your the best." she said and sighed.

Something Hailey didn't know is that the simulation room addapted to the leavel of training you wanted and then to what you needed to work with as soon as you hit the button.

Deric smiled at her and winked. "I know I am. Aren't you lucky to have such an amazing friend around? Come on, I'm starving." He started heading toward the cafeteria before he froze. He looked at Phoenix with wide eyes. "Haikey, she needs help. I think she is in the simulation room."

Hailey watched with wide eyes as holes appeared on the wall. She couldn't stop the scream that bubbled up through her lips as fire came out of the holes. Her arm flew up to protect herself from the blast and water made a wall.

Phoenix knew what would be down there waiting for her. Phoenix turned from Deric and ran. She got there to see Hailey inside fighting with a wall of water that wouldn't do her any good. The only way to get out of the simulation was to beat it. More people could be added in but not taken out. Phoenix knew that going in herself would make it that much harder but she couldn't let Haile stay in there alone. Phoenix went in and started to absorb the fire. "Hailey, look at me, listen to my voice the only way to get out of here is to fight, you need to put ice over the holes." she said and then jumped dodging a poisonis dart that where only aimed at her. Phoenix knew what she had gotten into.

Hailey looked at Phonenix with wide eyes before letting the wall of water drop. She shot ice over the holes as best she could. She noticed the plain darts and quickly shot I've over the holes they were coming from as well. Reinforcing it, she shot more ice over all the holes. Once everything had stopped firing, she turned and looked at Phoenix again. "Thank you." she whispered softly.

Deric grinned watching them from the window.

Phoenix sat down once the simulation stopped. "Thank you, but you're actually lucky you weren't dropped in a volcano with the only floor not on fire crumbling. What the hell where you thinking pressing that button?" Phoenix ran a hand through her hair as she laid back on the floor. "Damn I need to go cool off. Kid you better stick by some one from now on, you don't know enough to wonder around this school. I can't believe you did that by yourself. Are you sure the twins didn't put you in here?" Phoenix rambled on her nerves shoot thinking that some one might get hurt. Already Phoenix was going a sister like affection for this girl. After a while Phoenix stood. "Come on, you must feel like your nerves are as shot as mine." Phoenix opened the door and looked at Deric. "He's your hero though." Phoenix said. She smiled at him knowing he knew exactly how she felt and hopped he wouldn't panic at her need to go calm down. Phoenix was left in her uniform for training that she always wore because it was fire prof all her other cloths had been burned off but there was nothing wrong with her other then the feelings of uneasiness that could trigger her.

Hailey looked up at Phoenix. "Thank you" she whispered as she followed her out. She smiled softly at Deric. "I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking. I just got scared." she whispered softly. "Can one of you take me back to my room please?" she asked softly, looking at her feet. She felt horrible that she could have gotten someone hurt.

Phoenix nodded. "We'll see you Deric." she said and sighed. "Come on. The headmaster wants you to stay with me, and I think I may now why now. You may be scared of my abilities but I can protect you from ever getting burned again and worst case sonario you can cool me off." Phoenix said.

Hailey looked up at this girl and laughed. "That is a good point." she smiled at her. She didn't know why she had already become so attached to this girl who she barely knew but she was. She was kind of like the sister she never had. "Never getting burned again." she mumbled to herself. "I like that." she said softly. She looked up as they turned a corner and ran into Tyler and his girlfriend. They were talking in hushed tones and Tyler seemed angry. She sighed, she felt confused about people, she never could tell weither people were angry or just whispering.

Phoenix frowned. This she knew that Tyler was angry. She bit her lip. "Hey guys." she said. Phoenix wondered what was going on for them to be standing outside their door.

Tyler turned. "Kayle has something to say to you both." She shook her head. "N-No I don't." she said. Tyler had been told by Deric what had actually happened. Hailey hadn't pressed the simulation button. "Tell her Kayle!" Tyler said turning on her his eyes looked like they would eat holes in Kayle. Kayle looked at Phoenix and actually looked like she was trembling a little. "I- I was... was the one that hit the simulator button." she blurted out.

Hailey's eyes widened and she bit her lip. She reached out and touched Phoenix's arm gently. Phoenix getting in trouble for her was the last thing she wanted. She looked at Kayle. "No one was hurt that's the important thing."

Deric leaned against the wall a little way away from the confrontation. He thought that everyone's whirlwind of emotions was quite interesting to watch but he didn't feel the need to interfer yet.

Phoenix shook her head. "I need to leave." she said. She turned around Kayle stepped forward. "Phoenix I'm sorry." she said. Phoenix whipped around her eyes doing something odd then going back to normal. "DOn't talk to me!" she yelled a ball of hard fire forming in her hands before Phoenix closed her hands then ran out. She ran to her calm place and stuck her hands in the water looking into it. She breathed heavily. She wasn't suppose to get that angry. It was dangerous for everyone.

Kayle flinched back and Tyler stood there. "Come on Hailey we should get you checked out. You don't look hurt but using to much of your gifts at once can be like giving blood, you may need to eat something." Tyler walked over to her deciding to ignore Kayle. "Tyler please." Kayle reached out for him and he moved from her grasp. To him it was one of the worst things a jealous girlfriend could do to a new comer was abuse the training rooms and in such a cowardly way. She put everyone in danger. Phoenix was not to be messed with and it was obvious now that she felt like Tyler.

Hailey stared at everyone with wide eyes. "I don't want to make anyone angry." she did feel hungry but she disn't want Tyler to leave and make his girlfriend even madder at her. "I think I can maybe find my way." she suddenly felt really light headed. Moving away from Tyler she felt her shoulder hit the wall and then all black.

Deric followed Phoenix into her room. "You handled that surprisingly well given your background." he said with a faint smile. "That girl Hailey...you were trying really hard to be better before she came but since she got here you are actually being better. Maybe her being your roommate is a good thing. She needs someone to stand up for her. You need someone to calm you down. Awesome match." he said cheerily.

Tyler caught Hailey. "That's it Kayle we're done, obviously we have nothing in common anymore. He shifted Hailey in his arms and ran her down to the nurses room. He said her on the bed while the nurse looked her over finding the problem with her own gifts and starting to heal Hailey. "Good thing you had her Tyler, other wise she could have been out for weeks."

Phoenix looked over at Deric. "Your awful Deric." she teased shaking her head. "I was doing the best I could but seeing how no one was terrified of me for just controlling fire I had no reason to be any better then I was. Phoenix pulled her hands out. They where still warm but not to bad. She sat down and ran a hand through her hair. She leaned her head back against the wall. "I can't believe you where enjoying watching all that and don't deny it I may not be psychic but I am well aware."

Hailey opened her eyes and jumped up when she saw a strange woman leaning over her. She got to her feet and she stumbled a little but. Slumping against the wall, she jumped when she felt someone wrap their arms around her waist.

Deric grinned at her and shrugged. "what can I say I love a good show." He looked at her and leaned against the wall. "I mean, I knew Tht no one was going to get hurt so what was the point of me interfering?"
