Books That You Want to Hate But Are Addictive

What book and/or series do you want to hate or dislike but just can't?

What makes you want to hate it? And why are you addicted?

For me it's Eragon (and the rest of the Inheritance Cycle) by Christopher Paolini

I dislike the writing style.

Also I dislike are how closely it comes to plagiarising Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

And yet I'm addicted! Even writing fanfics for it. I kind of just think I like anything with dragons.

I also like the Vampire Diaries, I really wanted to hate it but I just can't.

House of Night. Those books are TERRIBLE and horribly written but once you start you just cannot stop!

I used to read those too and I completely agree, I hide that series in my closet so nobody knows I read it lol

Joanne Fluke's Hannah Swensen Murder Mysteries. They're everything I think to be cliche: the cozier version of the mystery genre with a bazillion baking recipes in them. I don't know why but I just keep reading them and love them. XD I have three taken out. Maybe I'm just hungry all the time.

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare.

Her writing is awful, cliché, and at times very unoriginal. Despite all that, I still went to go see the movie and liked the movie better than the book, and the movie wasn't very good either.

I don't like her writing, but I guess I'm interested enough to know what happens next? Although I refuse to purchase any more books and put myself through that horror again.

I've got all the House of Night books. the writing style is terrible and cheesey and I'd never admit to anyone that I've got them but I 'll probably buy the next one when it comes out, 'cause I'm desperate to find out what happens, it's been dragged out way too long now.

I've read all of Sarah Dessens books too, they're all pretty much the same plot and her writing isn't amazing but it's alright for when I have nothing else to read.

oh my sweet baby jesus! I didn't know someone else read those books. I love them! I totally agree, the couldn't be even more cliché but there are just so good!

I've read the whole A-List series (not the "second gen" though) by Zoey Dean and they were like candy for me.

I'd make sure to go to the bookstore and get the latest one; I waited for each one patiently too. The whole series is pretty much like Gossip Girl (not that I've watched the show but really, rich kids and their first world problems? I was so into it!) in the sense that everyone has to know the scoop. I even found myself liking how she had to describe their outfits, right down to the designers. lolyes. I lived for it. Pretty sure that it influenced me
enough to try and incorporate that writing choice into my earlier stories. The horror! But alas, they were amusing and captivating at the time.

The White Rabbit Chronicles by Gena Showalter is also one of those books I don't hate but I don't love either.

I didn't like how it exploits the "inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" bandwagon, so to speak. Not to mention the zombie slaying is pretty weak, but that's probably because the concept of how they have to slay them is. . .not
exactly believable, imo. Yet I keep reading it because of the romance, which admittedly makes up 80%+ of the plot.

Now that I really think about it, if you take away the minimal "action" scenes, it would just be a regular young adult romance novel. Imagine that.

I feel the same way! I must read these books beneath the veil of night (not really, but certainly not around any of my friends or family)!
Everything about Cassandra Clare irks me, yet this series has absolutely captivated me. I'm obsessed!

Looking back, Two-Way Street by Lauren Barnholdt is the kind of book I typically dislike, but...it's just too much fun for me not to like. It's such an easy read and I can always whiz through it in just a day, and it's just a cute little story.

House of Night series! I hated it. I hated the writing and the amount of cliches used and just the storylines but for some odd reason it was so addicting. You know it's terrible but it's a guilty pleasure. I stopped reading halfway into the series because I was starting to get embarassed for even buying them when they were so terrible to me.

Ive definitely gotten addicted to 'weird' (for me) stories on here in the past, lol. Like Jonas Brothers fan fiction, smh. Definitely not me at all but I clicked a story not knowing what it was when I first joined and read the first chapter and couldn't stop until I read the entire story and it's sequel, smh.
