    Anyone else interested in Mythology?

I've had a thing for Egyptian mythology for a fair few years but about a year or two ago I fell in love with Greek mythology and just recently I have become more interested in Norse.

I have a few different books on them and I used to base character names, etc off of mythological beings and relate the meanings to the story.

    Soo..

    Favourite basis in mythology?
Have a favourite god, goddess, spirit or creature?

Or have any tales that you'd love to recount?

Personally I adore the story of Harmonia (Greek) and her necklace.

I like Greek mythology the best (mainly because I don't know anything about any other mythology). My favorite God is Poseidon, he just always appealed to me, and my favorite Goddess is Athena. I even recently started something based off Greek mythology. I say based off because I changed the name of the Gods/Goddesses and didn't really use any of the myths, but the idea came from Greek mythology.

I've always been a bit of a mythology freak. Greek is probably my main appeal, since it was the first one I really started to learn about and get involved in. Plus it was taught to us in our first year of high school, so my interest really sparked. I've tried to get into Egyptian, but Greek is really where my heart lies and I'd love to work in the ancient history section of a museum at some point in the future.

The Titans are my main interest, since they aren't really the publicised mythological beings, despite there being a whole lot behind them. At most people will know the story of Kronos and the gods, and possibly where the Titans came from, but that's about it. My favourite stories are the really unusual and interesting ones, like how Coeus became the north star Polaris.

My favourite Titan is probably Phoebe. She doesn't have many back stories, and is mainly famous for being the grandmother of Apollo and Artemis. But she was also in possession of the Oracle at Delphi even before Apollo was born, and passed it down to him to give him his powers of prophecy. She's also the grandmother of the goddess Hecate. It's the little facts and relations like these that interest me way more than they should.

I like all kinds of Mythology. I read up on it in my spare time. I even got my mother interested in it.

In Egyptian, my favorite goddess is Sekhmet and Anubis.
In Greek, my favorite god is Ares.
In Norse, my favorite is Loki.

I seem to like the ones that cause chaos.

I absolutely love mythology. Like MistressLoki1618, I read it in my spare time. I probably know Greek the best since that was the first mythos I was introduced to. But I know a fair few. I am catching up on Norse and Hindu mythology now.

Favorite....right now it probably is Hekate from the Greek pantheon. But I have many other gods/goddesses/creatures I like. But that list is very long.

Personally, I find it interesting that two (at least that I know of at this moment) countries that are nearly half way across the world from each other have two very similar myths. Greece and Japan. Where the husband goes to the Underworld to retrieve his wife. The lord of the dead tells him to head back up and not to look behind him at his wife following. And in the end he looks and loses his wife forever.

I know Greek and Roman the best. We had a mythology book growing up and it had mostly Greek and Roman mythology, but I also read some Norse myths.

I find Egyptian mythology to be some of the most interesting just because of it's base in the ancient astronaut theory.

I love Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Norse and Celtic mythology. I first started with Egyptian, so that is where my heart lies. My favorite gods...? Well, I would have to Artemis, Diana, Neith, Skadi and Nimueh. I think I just love moon, water or hunting deities in general.

I'm a big mythology person, but Greek/Roman is my favorite. My favorite Greek goddess is Athena, and my favorite god is Dionysus. My favorite story would have to between the story of Echo & Narcissus, and the tale of Atalanta.

I've been doing a lot of research on Norse mythology lately, so that's probably my second favorite.

I've always been really interested in Greek/Roman mythology, and once I started researching that fell in love with Celtic and Norse mythology. I really don't have a favorite god or goddess, but if they were in a fight I'd have to pick Freya [Norse] and Iovantucarus [Celtic].

I've always been interested in mythologies. Personally, I'm the most interested in Greek mythology because it's apart of my paternal heritage (my paternal side is one hundred per cent Greek & actually are a very prestigious Greek family). I love all the names (Andromeda, Athena, Ares, Poseidon, etc) and the stories too.
My favourite gods/goddesses are Dionysus, Poseidon, Athena, & Ares.

This is making me think I need to make a trip to the homeland whenever I get the money to do it. Shifty

I personally enjoy Greek Mythology the most. I know a bit on Norse & Egyptian, but I'd need to look into them much more than I have. Recently I've been getting into the Bible Mythologies as well, some of which may have some truth in them, such as the story of Moses. There has been evidence to suggest that it did happen, 10 plagues befell Egypt, a release of slaves around that point & most interestingly Egyptian Chariots found at the bottom of the Red Sea.

Anyways, my favourite myth would have to be Perseus and Medusa. Has always been a favourite of mine.

Favourite God would be Hades, Poseidon & Loki. I find the 3 of them to be most intriguing, and contrary to popular belief, Hades isn't as evil as everyone thinks, just very, very intimidating. Plus no one is in a hurry to meet him, seeing as you have to die to do so.

And as for my favourite mythological creature, I like Griffins. The Hydra is also neat.

    Favourite basis in mythology?
Greek Mythology - and I swear it isn't Percy Jackson based. xD But, no, literally, it isn't. The first couple of times I heard about Greek Mythology had been in grade 9 or 10 English class, and I had fallen in love with it since. There's just something about it that I can't really put my finger on.

Have a favourite god, goddess, spirit or creature?
Athena is a favorite of mine, kind of. I don't really think there's anything beyond that in the likeable range.

Or have any tales that you'd love to recount?
The one about Arachnid was kind of sad. There was another story about Thesius or something or other (pretty sure I misspelled his name), and I know for certain that the story for Hades and Persephone had been something of repeat value in the romance genres.

Celtic and Norse are my favorites.
    MistressLoki1618:
In Norse, my favorite is Loki.
    Same.
I also like Odin. Because ravens are the coolest pets. So, more precisely, I like Huginn and Muninn.
For Celtic, my favorite is the Morrigan.
I kind of like Athena, Hera, and Poseidon in Greek.
Quetzalcoatl (I really hope I spelled that right) for Aztec.

I'm interested in Mythology and I would love to learn more. Does anyone have any good web links for sites that have the Mythology stories on them? And if you can find some from Egypt that would be great! I'd love to learn more! x3 Crazy

I've liked Norse mythology since I was a kid but only really got fully back into it in the past eighteen months or so when my parents got me shiny new copies of the Prose and Poetic Edda.

I also used to like Egyptian mythology a lot too when I was maybe seven or eight, but my interest in that has kind of waned over the years.

I'm sort of interested in Greek mythology too, I studied it once back in middle school but never seemed to be able to get round to actually looking into it more.

Hephaestus is my favorite Greek god, if that's not obvious.
My favorite monster/creature from mythology is the nepheliads or the Nemean Lion.

I adore Greek mythology so much. I don't really know much about the others, but I think I know a fair few facts about Egyptian mythology.

I'm not entirely sure when exactly I started getting into them, but I'm thinking the movie 'The Prince of Egypt' had a lot to do with it (which is weird, because that's Egyptian?). I think back then, I couldn't really differentiate the two from one another, but as soon as I was able to, I leaned towards Greek mythology more.

I don't really think I have a favorite Greek god, but I love the way Athena was portrayed in the movie 'The Odyssey'.

And it's because of this love for the Greek mythology that I really got into movies like Troy, Odyssey, and Alexander - which is definitely my favorite movie although a lot of critics don't really like it.
