I've been reading through a few LGBT forums on this sight and a recurring issue is the explanation of pansexuality.
Since about my freshmen year in high school, I've known that I was something other than heterosexual but just chalked it up to bisexuality. It wasn't until two years ago that I've finally come out as pan.
First things first, as a pansexual, I believe that there is no gender binary (ie: not just man and woman plus stuff in between). I believe that gender is fluid and that there are no limits. Gender should also not be confused with a person's sex, which is very commonplace.
Pansexuality is being attracted to all genders, regardless of their sex. This is different from bisexuality for the fact that bisexuality is being attracted to male and female genders, masculine and feminine personalities... hence the "bi" in bisexuality. People who are bisexual, in my belief, can be attracted to people whom are transsexual because although a person may have a male sex, they still may have a female gender. I suppose though, bisexuality could be the attraction to any two genders, as long as there are two.
Just like any other sexuality, people whom are pansexual have preferences (key word: preferences), not only with gender, but with sex, body shape, style, attitude, etc. Being pansexual does not mean that a person is game for everything, just that gender doesn't play a key part in how attractive a person is.
I'm sorry if my description is still a little confusing.
Any thoughts?
What would your definition of pansexuality be?
