Are they considered less intelligent? Can men get away with more cursing before they look unintelligent? And in general how are women who course a lot perceived in American society.
    * I'm doing a little informal research for my Linguistics class Thank you all in advance for your help.

I don't think it's true about just the words themselves, but the delivery. When women curse casually, I don't think anyone really cares. I do think that women who swear often and brazenly can be perceived as less "lady-like" and guys can get away with that a little easier. But with casual cursing, I don't think it's such an issue.

It also depends on the opinions of the people, of course. I curse a lot and surround myself with people generally not offended by that. I do try to watch my cursing around certain people or strangers.

I don't see why it should matter. If a guy can do it and not be judged than a woman should be able to do it and not get judged.

    I agree with you.

But the way the question is worded, it doesn't seem like it's a 'should' question, but an 'is' question. Not, do you think they should be looked down on, but do you think they are.

    Oh. Oops. XD

I mean, I kinda do think they are. My family does but I don't know about other people's families.

    This.

I have family members added on FB and one time during Christmas, my uncle just goes up to me and goes 'don't swear, it's unladylike.' and my mom brings up the same issue the next year like her mouth is all clean and mouth wash fresh too. Like, I don't get it. We don't live in a century where once a guy holds hands with a woman then he has to marry her or where a girl isn't allowed to look directly at men. Why does how a girl speak have to affect the way people look at her? I mean, I could be the most lady-like woman out there and still swear when I'm angry.

I don't curse too much outside the net, but it does happen. When I'm with friends, we don't really care but I do watch it near family and strangers, more out of respect than anything else. Those know me, know that I'm smart and respectful, so they won't be offended if I a "fuck" or "shit" comes out.
