    I looked for a thread but couldn't find one, but I've been thinking about this a lot in the past few weeks and I was wondering if anyone else on Mibba does this kind of thing. And was curious about their experiences of it. And with what animals.

    I’ve done it a few times, but talking about them in any great detail would make for one giant post Shifty I’ve only ever rescued cats myself, but when I’m older and I have my own place I want to do the same for dogs.

    My reasons for doing it are basically animals > people. And because I find it very satisfactory and think it’s the right thing to do.

    There are also sentimental reasons but I won’t go into those XD

    I rescue cats.
    I don't have the room for dogs, but right now I have;
    8 Female Cats
    7 Male Cats

    Then a colony of cats I don't know living behind my house. I'd have to say about 20 or so of them.

    I buy four 25 pound bags of cat food every two weeks.
    I buy a 36 pack of wet food every month for one of our toothless cats.

    We get two cats fixed a month, we have two females to get fixed, the rest is males right now. However, with the ferals we're expecting kittens in April or May - ish.

    We probably on average take two cats to the vet for shots, and wellness checkups which is going to go down because we don't have enough money.

    It's expensive, and knowing things about cats in general helps a lot.

    I don't know why but my initial reaction was 'THEY HAVE BIRD RESCUES?!' but it was FacepalmXD I did the same thing when I found out there's a hamster rescue center down the road from where I used to live in London.

    I don't know how things work with this stuff like overseas but is it not possible to get help with rescue animals off an organisation or anything? I know when I was taming the Doctor*, a cat charity over here paid for all her vet fees (check ups, and two operations to have kittens terminated because it was highly unlikely she'd survive the birth or something, and I think possibly they had her spayed after that but I'm not 100% sure) and they supplied all the food and any other equipment we needed (mainly traps, but also a new carrier because they broke one of mine). They actually supplied that much in terms of food that there was enough to feed not only her with it, but also my own cats (and there was that much left over at the end that they let me keep that nobody had to buy our cats food for like a month afterwards XD )

    We also had the same offers with Pond (we also got told by two organisations to put her back outside to die which was obviously wonderful). But we couldn't keep her long term for a multitude of reasons and had to rehome her within 24 hours so we couldn't take the organisation up on the offer of food etc.

    *I refer to cats like they're people Facepalm

    I fostered a dog for a little while, it didn't work out but I saved her life. Great dog I don't know why someone gave her away, everyone kind of gave her the nickname Toto.
