So I had a friend talk me into doing a round contest, and this is what I came up with! See rules and round content below. (:
Update: Since so many people are failing to keep up with the deadlines, I'm making an executive decision to allow more entrants. So even if you didn't join up at the beginning, you can enter at any point in time for the remaining rounds. To those of you who have stuck with this, I love you and you are amazing.
Rules:
1. All Mibba rules apply.
2. You may do: drabbles, or a one, two, or three-shot. Minimum word count for a drabble is 150 words, 1,000 words for a one-shot.
3. You will have two weeks to complete each round prompt, except the final one, which I will give you three weeks for, because it's a little trickier. Every entry must be submitted and complete in order for you to go on to the next round!
4. No incest, M-preg, or fan-fiction.
5. Any rating is acceptable, but please try to avoid stories that are all smut and basically nothing else. I'm really not a fan of those.
6. Don't submit any entries before we're on that round. Meaning, if you go nuts and write the first four stories because you're a beast like that, submit them one at a time, as that round begins.
7. Include a link to this contest in your summaries.
8. Tell me if you change your username! Por favor, s'il vous plait, please, this is important.
9. Use spell-check! It doesn't need to be perfect, but for the love of cheese, people, make sure you edit or ask someone to proofread for you.
Now, I'm going to post all the prompts on this one thread, because I feel like that will keep things a little less confusing for me, especially since I've never done a round before. As I mentioned in the rules, in order to move from one round to the next, your entries must be submitted and complete by the deadline. Winners will be announced after the last round is complete, and will be chosen from the people who make it through all seven rounds.
Brownie Points:
1. Creativity. The more unique your story is, the more I'll like it.
2. Great descriptions and flow.
3. Original (readable!) layouts.
4. Elements of fantasy/the supernatural; or horror.
5. Emotion. Make me laugh, or cry, or get pissed. Just make me feel something.
6. Cute boy/girl romances. I'll accept slash, it's just really not my favorite thing.
Deadlines:
To Enter: March 19. I want to get this underway, so y'all have three weeks to enter.
Round One: April 2
Round Two: April 24
Round Three: May 8
Round Four: May 22
Round Five: June 5
Round Six: June 19
Round Seven: July 4
I recommend bookmarking/subscribing to this thread so you can keep track of these dates.
Prizes
-Comments and recommendations on three stories of your choosing.
-Subscription to two stories of your choosing.
-Link to a story of your choosing in my signature for two months.
-A one-shot written by me (but please don't ask me for fan-fics, unless it's Supernatiral or The walking Dead. Those I can pull off, but I'm not a fan-fic person, and I barely watch any of the popular TV shows So..yeah. Give me any other topic you want and I'll write it).
-A forum thread whoring out as many of your stories as you choose.
First place may choose four;
Second place may choose three;
Third place may choose two;
and if I do an honorable mention, they choose one.
All righty, so here are the categories. (There is no limit on the number of people who can enter for round one. The other rounds will depend on who gets their completed work in on time :D)
Round One: Seasons.
-Pick one of the four seasons and include it in your story. The story can be set in this season, the season can be significant to the main character; just make sure it's included somehow. Easy enough, right?
collectivision with Chase the Sun
hibernus with Winter's Realm
HannaDarling with Burn
paper sirens. with Freezing Time
Mr. Darcy with The Webster Sisters
pearlhunter with Winter's Storm
Round Two: "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything."
-Your story needs to center around this quote. You can use the quote in the story, or just use the idea of the quote for the basis of your story.
collectivision with Consequence
hibernus with Something to Prove
Mr. Darcy with Lost Son of War
Round Three: Definitions.
-I'm going to list seven words and their definitions. Your story needs to convey the definition of the word. Basically you'll be using your story to explain the word. don't define the word in your story though! Meaning, don't actually write the specific word and its definition. There can be more than one person per word, no limits.
-Lacuna (n.): a blank space or missing part.
-Evanescence (n.): A vanishing; the act of fading away.
-Rapacious (a.): Voracious, ravenous; excessively greedy.
-Taciturn (a.): Tempermentally disinclined to talk.
-Harbinger (n.): One that presages or foreshadows what is to come. (Doesn't necessarily need to be a person; it can be a thing, event, etc).
-Schism (n.): Separation or division.
-Chimera (n.): An illusion or fabrication of the mind. (I know most people associate this with the monster from mythology, and it is that too, but for the sake of this contest, this is the definition we're going with).
hibernus with Hindsight
easydoesit with She Should Have Known
Mr. Darcy with Little Boy Lost
Round Four: Mythology.
-This incorporates myths, gods/goddesses from all around the world. The story can center on a mythological story, or simply feature a god and/or goddess. If you need some help picking a myth, there are some useful links here, here, here, and here.
Round Five: Futuristic Worlds.
-Simple enough; set the story 50+ years from now and describe the world/how humanity is living. It can be post-Apocalyptic, Utopian, Dystopian, like the Jetsons, whatever. Humans can be living on another planet, or on space stations like Star Trek. All up to you.
Round Six: Journeys.
-Again, pretty straight-forward. Your story needs to be about a journey of some kind. Your character can be running away, going on a quest to find something, taking a road trip, etc etc. Go nuts with it.
And finally, Round Seven: Classic Romances Re-Told.
-Pick one of the epic/classic couples from below (or suggest to me another one that's not listed, because I'm sure there are some I've forgotten) and write your own version of it. Remember, you have three weeks to complete this round. You can keep it pretty much along the same lines as the original, change the ending, make a modernized version...in case you hadn't noticed yet, I'm making these pretty broad. Let your imagination run wild here. And again, more than one person may have the same couple/romance.
T h e C o u p l e s:
Romeo & Juliet
Othello & Desdemona
Elizabeth Bennet & Mr. Darcy
Scarlett O'Hara & Rhett Butler
Cleopatra & Marc Antony
Barbie & Ken ( )
Catherine Earnshaw & Heathcliff
Helen of Troy & Paris
Jane Eyre & Edward Rochester
Tristan & Isolde
Guinevere & Lancelot
Bonnie & Clyde
Whew. Man that was a lot of typing. Okay, guys. Have at it! If you have any questions about...any of that up there, feel free to ask.
