"Dammit," Mizuki cursed again, really not liking this. She was just happy when she was finally sitting again and not being slung around all over the place like a doll. She sighed as he sprayed the disinfectant, hair hanging in her face because of the way she was being forced to sit. "Not really... alcohol is a lot worse," she simply muttered to his remark about it stinging, and a moment later felt a bandage. "Hey, no don't-" she groaned when she felt it go on. She was going to end up pulling half of her hair out trying to get it off later on... Finally she sighed, glaring up at him. "Can I leave now?"

Kross patted the top of her head gently "Yes, you're free to go," he said, stepping out of the way so she could leave. As Kross headed out of the bathroom himself, he stopped at the shower and shook the curtain a bit "Have a nice shower, Ging--" he stopped, scanning Harry's silhouette "Whoa now... Looks like you just earned yourself another nickname, Harry Hardon," he winked, then stepped out, picking up the fallen door and resting it against the wall before heading back to the living room.
Back in the living room, Kross sat down next to Mizuki "Is your head hurting? You guys got aspirin or ibuprofen?"

Mizuki sighed, shaking her head and walked out of the bathroom, back into the livingroom. She had righted the couch again, having just sat down when Kross sat next to her, right when she was about to put her feet up to prevent it. At his questions, she groaned softly. "I just hit my head on the floor because I fell off the couch. You're acting like I fell off a cliff." She shook her head, looking at him. "I swear, I'm fine." She shook her head again. "You remind me of my dad... acting like this." As soon as she said it, she realized it was true. He did remind her of her dad, in a couple of ways at least.

He smiled at her, at the father comment. "I never knew your dad, but I can tell you really loved him... So that means a lot," he said.
It was funny; the first time he met Mizuki, he compared her to his mother, because of her eyes. And now she was comparing him to her father... That made him smile.
Kross looked out the window to see that night had fallen, and the festival had dispersed for the night. Some men and women climbed into the watch towers, weapons ready for the nights watch, but besides that the town was empty. "Is it always like that?" he asked "No people out at night?"

Mizuki didn't quite know what to say to his bit about her father, and so she said nothing, choosing to remain silent instead, but as he asked about people being out at night, she glanced out the window, seeing that night had in fact fallen, and she nodded. "Yeah, pretty much. They hide better at night... it's safer to stay indoors."
She glanced at him. "You don't know very much about this region, do you? The vampires... those like my uncle... attack any human they can feed on. You're lucky if they drain you to death. Some will vampirize you, some will turn you into a slave... And since we're basically the only village that hunts them, that doesn't let them do this to us, well... they're constantly trying to attack us. It's usually at night, too. You never know whether your night's going to be peaceful or whether you're going to wake up to a siren and fireballs flying."
She shrugged softly then. "It isn't bad though. Most of the time, it's a young one or two, looking for an easy meal. Seeing a settlement just sitting there and not knowing... they're taken care of pretty quickly."

The images of war filled Kross's mind. As much as he hated to admit it, the people of this village seemed pretty bad ass. "You wanna go walk outside, then?" he asked, though before she could even answer, Mizuki was over his shoulder again and he was walking out the door.
The night air was cooler than before, but not too cold that you would need a coat. Though, in the mountains, Kross could see snow resting on their peaks. Seeing the red tent again, Kross steered clear from it, keeping control of what came in and out of his mind.
He headed into the forest before sitting Mizuki down, "Show me around. What'd you do for fun as a kid?"

Mizuki glared up at Kross. "You need to stop doing that," she said. She figured the warning wouldn't be enough, so she thought of something. "You'll sleep on the couch instead of in Tom's room if you don't." Okay, wasn't her best idea ever, but what was she supposed to say? That they wouldn't feed him? That they would take his fish away? Both were just cruel. She sighed softly at herself.
She glanced around as he mentioned what she used to do as a kid, and pursed her lips a bit. "Well... Harry and I used to climb trees... for a little bit..." Considering she became afraid of heights, she had stopped that. "Hide n' seek was pretty easy. We knew the terrain so we wouldn't get lost. Sometimes we went hunting with our dad and Tom, at night sometimes. Certain animals are easier to find at night."

He nodded as they walked, completely ignoring the comment about him carrying her. "So, where do the vampires live, exactly? Are there other creatures around here, too?" he asked, jumping up on a log that came upon their path.
"I've come across several creatures in my travels... some stranger than others... I think it's fascinating. It makes me feel pity for humans, too," he said, then seconds later realized he just made it sound like he want's human.
Kross scratched his neck, "I feel bad that we get the boring lives of humans," he added, casually. Could you be more careless, dumb ass?!

"Yeah, there's others..." Mizuki trailed off as they just walked through the forest. "I have one aunt that's a gypsy basically... she's as bad as the hunters here though about vampires. Then there Akane, my other aunt..." She frowned a bit. "She doesn't visit much; I don't really know if she's still really considered part of the family..." She glanced at him. "She's part vampire like my uncle, but... she has an interesting diet besides... tried to eat Harry one time." It was hell when your family member was a cannibal.
"That's just my family though. My uncle married a werewolf... I'm pretty sure there are elven people in the forest, as well as Pharisees. They prefer the summer though, and they can be pesky at times." She thought a bit more. "I think I've seen some Shifters... I'm not sure about the whole population though."
She looked at him as he started mentioning strange creatures, and smiled a bit. "Not quite. What about those of us who are human but have special abilities? Harry's a necromancer," she explained. "And what about you? Nothing special or magical?"

Kross listened with fascination at the tales of her family, laughing at the part where Harry was almost eaten.
When she asked him what was special about himself, Kross began to feel awkward "Uhh... Well, I once had three arms, if that counts..." he said, shrugging. "And once... as a kid, I kind of blacked out, and when I woke up, everyone in the room was dead. Torn to shreds, blood smeared on the walls and floors... I don't really know if I did it, but I was in a very... emotionally distraught phase..."
As they continued to walk, Kross went on to explain more "My mother was a human, no powers. Just a normal girl who was sucked into a world like this. My dad... I don't really know if one could call him human, but he is mortal. No powers for him either... Just a genius," he said, "I have no siblings that I know of, but... Things are weird back where I grew up, so you never know," They continued walking, and Kross continued talking "The man who raised me from the ages of ten to sixteen, I'm nineteen now by the way, was named Kano. He had amazing powers... He could bend darkness and shadows into tangible things, whatever he wanted them to be. It was great,"
More walking and more talking went on, "I came across this tiny group of four women, who claimed to be goddesses fallen from the skies... They could tell everything about you from the second they sensed your presence. It was insane... And then there was this clan of vampires who each controlled a different element... I've seen lots of cool things,"

Mizuki listened in silence as Kross told her a lot of his past, nodding as he seemed like he was finishing. "Wow, you've had an interesting life," she smiled a little at him. "I'm sort of glad I didn't have your father though... Kano seemed cool though, and so do your adventures." She smiled a little easier as they just kept walking.
"Can't say I've seen that many cool things," she added. She shrugged softly. "Maybe if I leave the village though." In all honesty, she hadn't decided really what she wanted to do with her life once it was time. She had always liked the thought of traveling, a lot like Aunt Kanon, but without the violence. She would want to travel more peacefully.
Finally she just sighed. Unless she had some way to sustain herself, and besides... she would be alone. Looking at Kross and how alone he seemed to be, she just wasn't too sure. He had been practically starving and freezing to death when she had found him at the festival earlier. It wasn't exactly the sort of thing she would prefer, even if she did yearn to see other places besides their little mountain expanse.

Kross shrugged, "I wouldn't leave a place like this behind unless I had too... Traveling constantly isn't easy. It's very lonely, too," he said, "Though I do recommended visiting other places. Just be sure to come back," he smiled.
Thinking back Kross remembered the town Kano lived in. It was big with thousands of people living there and super tall buildings. As much as he loved Kano, he would never be able to stay there with him; it was much too loud.
It was then that another thought struck him, one that he hadn't looked back on in a while: he loved Kano. Not in a romantic way, but in a family way. Kano was his father. He was the only man who cared for him and loved him despite his flaws, which was more than his biological father had ever done for him. By now a sense of euphoria was consuming Kross as he revisited many of his memories with the man in his mind.

Mizuki thought about what he said to her as she ran a hand though her hair, wincing as the bandage pulled on some of the hair. She reached both hands behind her head, pulling it off as carefully as she could so that she didn't create a bald spot on the back of her head. She didn't even know why Kross put it back there in the first place... a little blood loss never hurt anyone, especially not as little as it had been on that wound. She lost more blood during her period!
"Well, you've been traveling. It's understandable to want to settle down in a place, I guess," she said after a moment, still mulling over his words. "And I never said I would leave. If I do though, I'm not coming back. Remember what I said about ghosts earlier? There are too many here for me to handle, both the haunting kind that each individual person knows and..." She took a glance around, eyes settling on what appeared to be an empty path of land in the forest a moment. "And the real kind."
She then muttered something under her breath that sounded close to, "No offense, dad." She hoped she had said it low enough that no one but the intended person hear it.

Kross became worried again as she slipped the band-aid off. The smell of her blood hit his nose with brute force, but he luckily could control himself. Being only part vampire, he didn't have to drink blood unless it was necessary for his health, like being sick. But as he grew older, the need for it had grown less and less. It was almost as if he wasn't a vampire at all, but Kross still liked to take precautions.
"Wait, can you see ghosts?" he asked her, stopping in his tracks. As they walked through the forest, steadily inclining up towards the mountains, the air had started to grow colder, and Kross wished he had some sort of jacket now. Another thing about being only part vampire: he was still affected by temperature.
Though not as strong as a full blooded vampire, Kross's senses were still stronger than the average human, so he could still hear what Mizuki whispered "...Is your father here with you?"

Mizuki hadn't had time to get a jacket because Kross had picked her up and carried her out the door, and she wished he would have at least warned her first as she rubbed her arms a bit. Night was naturally colder, plus their gaining altitude, made for the chilly air. As he stopped, she did too, an odd look coming over her face at his question.
"Ah... well... not all the time. He does like to check up on me though," she admitted as she looked to Kross. She was surprised he had heard her honestly, and she wondered just how good his senses were... he had still been able to smell burning flesh when she couldn't and had even heard her well enough to ask a question just then.
She bit the inside of her cheek. "Look, it's really hard to explain. Let's just head down mountain instead of up while I try to think how to explain." she motioned him to follow and started them in the opposite direction. She didn't know about him but she was starting to freeze. "So yes, I can see ghosts. If the person is dead, they're here. Not right here, but around... some are nice, and some... erm, not so much."
She stuffed her hands in her pant's pockets as she continued to walk. "I don't only see the ghosts though... I can borrow things from them... special abilities they might have had in life, and stuff like that," she went on to say. "So far as I know, I'm the only one who can. I've asked them before, and they say so, but I don't know." She looked over to see his reaction to the news.

Kross listened intently as they walked down the hill, already feeling the warmth coming back. "Wow... You can use ghosts' powers... That's amazing. I've never met anyone like that before," he said, hoping back up on the same log he had come to on the way up.
"Is the communication mental? Or do you have to speak out loud?" he asked her, remembering Tomoki, a boy he had met two years ago who literally could make corpses talk again.

Mizuki shrugged a little at the question as she shook her head a little when he hopped on the same log. After a moment, she hopped up as well, bumping him off in the process with a teasing smile as she started to walk on it. "Both, actually. I figure it's usually more polite to speak outloud, but people tend to think you're talking to yourself, so I do the mental too," she told him as she glanced down at him.
She saw she wasn't that much taller than him on the log really, barely so actually, and nearly shook her head at that fact. "But to be able to borrow their abilities, they have to want to help me. Most of my friends are dead." Her smile this time was one of those genuine, happy smiles pretty much. "I've even talked to my mom... for years actually. She's the one who gave me a name for what I can do. She says I'm a necrosocium."

Kross nodded "That sounds incredible... I'm glad you had the chance to speak with your mother and father," he said. Finally they returned back to the village, and Kross yawned "What time is it?"
As he waited for Mizuki to answer, he was suddenly pulled away from his mind, standing in a type of trance. Before his eyes a vision started to play; a faded scene of Kross himself sneaking into the red tent at night, a knife in hand, and cutting the binds that held the captured vampire. Then they ran off into the mountains together. You can do this... Save me. Oh, please save me. I can see the visions... Visions of what is coming. We need to leave together. Soon.

Mizuki shook her head, shrugging, as she played with the bandage she still held. "I don't know." She glanced up at the sky. "Probably somewhere around 10 or 11, I think," she added as an afterthought, seeing the moon almost directly overhead. When she looked back down to him though, he was standing still and rigid, and frowning a bit, she waved her hand in front of his face. "Kross?"
When he didn't answer or even move for that matter, she bit her lip with a frown, becoming worried. What had just happened anyway? Mizuki stepped forward until she was directly in front of him and touched a hand to his arm. "Kross?" Still no answer. Cursing softly, she started to shake him, but still that gained no response. She pressed a hand over his mouth and pinched his nose shut, cutting off his air, watching for a reaction. "Damn, what does it take to wake you up?!" As his face turned red she let go, pursing her lips.
A thought almost immediately came to mind, but she shook her head at herself and nearly took a step back. She couldn't even consider doing that... I mean... spacing off can't be that bad, right? He's just probably daydreaming. Not like he's in trouble or anything, she thought to console herself. Really at this point, all she could do was stand there and wait unless she was willing to try that other thing... which she wasn't.

Kross drifted in his mind, listening to the desperate pleading of the vampire. Things will be bad... Oh so very bad. If we do not get out we will not make it. I know. I can tell. I can see. He had a tone of complete hysteria, and he began to laugh like a loon. Though, some part of Kross could just tell that he was being serious.
So, the boy did something he had never actually done before: he talked back. What do you see? And how can I get you out?
There is no time to explain like this. But war is upon us. My name is Lothaire De Bayard. I was born in France in the year of 1784. I have lived over two hundred years of my life and I do not plan on it ending in two days, especially at the hands of these people. Took you long enough to speak to me, by the way...
Two hundred years. That's what amazed Kross the most about vampires... The life of an eternity. ...Well, I can't just let you die... Uh, I suppose I could sneak out tonight and come speak to you. I'm sure I can easily get by unseen. But I have to go now. Mizuki is trying to get my attention.
Tonight... Yes. Yes, indeed. Hurry my boy... That girl is smart. It won't be long before she figures you out. And with that, Lothaire disconnected from Kross, sending him away from whatever trance he had put him in, and Kross's mind was silent, the his eyes now seeing what they were supposed to; Mizuki, waving her hands in front of him. "W-what? Oh, sorry... Kinda dozed off there..." he said, "I'm pretty tired. Wanna head back and get some rest?" As he stared into the blue eyes of the girl before him, Kross felt a hollowing feeling creep into his bones. Lothaire was right. Mizuki was smart; she had already asked him some questions that would eventually lead to the truth... But, what would she do if she found out? Kross wasn't ready for her to be out of his life; he had just started to get to know her. And what did Lothaire mean by an oncoming war? It seemed pretty peaceful here... Sure, the creatures in the mountains seemed rather eerie, but they seemed to be content where they were... So many questions Kross had, and he hoped he would get the answers from his meeting with the immortal tonight.
