    Mibba Newsletter: Supernatural Mini Site

    Hello Mibbians!

This week’s newsletter features the TV show Supernatural, a contest about secrets, and the thread to go to if you’re trying to get fit. Don’t forget to read the important reminders section, as there are some new rules you should be aware of!

    What’s New?

Mibba has recently launched another mini site. This one is for Supernatural fan fiction, which means it’s based on the TV show and not just anything related to supernatural beings. If you’re a fan, check it out and post your stories on there too!

    The Rec Section

    Contest
The featured contest this week is the Post Secret Picture Contest, and with a good selection of prizes it’s sure to grab your attention. This contest is based on pictures of secrets that people have posted on the internet, and you have to write a story or poem based on the secret you choose. The deadline is June 6th, so you have plenty of time to think about your entry.

    Story
Amplified is a fan fiction about the show Supernatural, and is set in season one. The heroine, Aiden, has a hunter as a father who has recently gone missing, just like the Winchesters. Once she bumps into Dean, the ball gets rolling and you’re sure to be enticed to read more.

    Poem
The poem you must read this week is Trust. With just six stanzas, it conveys heartbreak and disappointment about someone who has broken another person’s trust. It’s easy to relate to, and the writing style is wonderful.

    Thread
Getting Fit for 2013 is a thread that users can use to discuss weight loss and get motivation from other participating people. If you’re interested in getting fitter, head over there and leave a post!

    A Friendly Reminder!
    Bashing
Unfortunately, there have been a rather large number of bashing incidents recently on Mibba. It is against the site rules to harass, insult, or in any way abuse another Mibbian, their opinion, a celebrity, a book, a film, etc. Expressing opinions is okay, but this must be done in a constructive fashion and not be offensive. For example, it is okay to leave a comment on someone’s story saying “I think you need to work on your descriptive writing”, but it is not okay to say “You’re a terrible writer”. Bashing can end in a banning from Mibba. If you spot anyone doing it, do not confront them, and instead report it to a staff member via PM. (Please keep in mind that the “Report” buttons are still non-functional, so PM-ing is the only way to report things.)

    New Article Rules

The article section has acquired some new rules that come into effect immediately. Any swearing in the article’s content must now be censored. Profanity is only allowed in articles if it’s in a quote because articles are formal pieces of writing, but now you are required to censor it. Also, no profanity is allowed in the article’s title or lead, regardless of whether or not it is censored. If you’re uncertain about these new rules, or have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask an Article Editor.

If you need more information, you can always find Mibba’s rules in the Knowledge Base.

    Mibba Newsletter: Superhero Day!

    Hello Mibbians!

There are a lot of new things happening on Mibba, so make sure you read the whole newsletter to get clued up on everything and to see some awesome rec’s!

    What’s New?

Firstly, Mibba will now be hosting Spirit Days! The first of these is Superhero/Supervillain Day, which will be on March 1st. On this day, users are encouraged to ‘dress-up’ their profile, usernames, and avatars as their favourite superhero or supervillain. Each month will now have one or two days dedicated to a particular theme for users to dress-up as, and notices will be in the newsletter and in the Mibba Spirit Days thread. If you like superhero fan fiction, have a browse on the Avengers mini-site too.

As you may have already seen on your My Mibba page, we’re looking for people to apply to be official Mibba beta readers. More info can be found in this thread, and post any questions you have there too.

Last, but definitely not least, Mibba has two new Admins! Katie Mosing and takahe.angel are now official Admins, so if you have any issues or need any help, don’t hesitate to ask them!

    The Rec Section

    Contest
Many people have specific requirements when they enter a contest, whether it is only writing with a picture as a prompt, or only writing for a specific genre. In The Ultimate Category Contest, it really doesn’t matter what you write, because almost everything is accepted! Just pick a prompt and get writing before August 13 – it’s that simple.

    Story
If you’re looking for a story that’s a bit different to the rest, you should give Strings to Life a chance. It’s an original fiction that follows a soldier as he dies… and then wakes up. The plot is unique and interesting, and with just three chapters so far, it leaves you wanting more.

    Poem
Blowing Wishes is a captivating rhyme that you must read. The flow of the words is amazing, and overall it’s a very inspiring poem. It’s one that you just have to leave a comment on to congratulate the author on their awesome writing.

    Thread
The K-Pop Fandom Club is yet another new feature on Mibba. It’s the first official club on the site, so if you’re a fan of K-Pop, go and check it out! The club will feature stories, authors, writing prompts, challenges, band introductions, and much more, all related to K-Pop.

    A Friendly Reminder!

    Story Title Capitalisation
A lot of users are incorrectly capitalising their story titles. In the article Posting a New Story, found in the Knowledge Base, the rules for titles are clearly stated. All words in a title must be capitalised (except for the listed words that must be lowercase), no decorations, and no tags. Proper spelling and grammar is also a must. Story Editors will change any titles that they find to be breaking the rules, so try to put them out of a job!

More information about stories, and Mibba’s rules, can be found in the Knowledge Base.

    Mibba Newsletter: Plagiarism Reminder

    Hello Mibbians!

This week we’ve got another Book Club ready for you, as well as two contests you might be interested in joining. Don’t forget to check the reminders section, as it addresses the important topic of plagiarism.

    What’s New?

The Mibba Book Club is being continued this month, with the book City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. Get your hands on the great book and start reading so you can participate in the conversation! A new addition is that halfway through the month questions will be posted to initiate discussion, so keep an eye out for those!

This month Mibba is hosting a Fictional Fiction contest! The concept is to take a fictional book from a published book (i.e. fake books mentioned in real books), and write a story about it. If you’re up for a challenge or simply want to try something different, this is the contest for you! Just head over to the thread, say you’ll participate, then get started.

    The Rec Section

    Contest
If you love writing slash, then this is the contest for you! The Original Slash Contest is a simple contest for those who write original slash stories, and its deadline is the 31st of May. There aren’t many restrictions listed in the rules, and the prizes are excellent, so start thinking up your entry now!

    Story
All Harry Potter fans have to read At the Ball. It is a brilliant story filled with the right amount of romance and drama. Set during the time of the Yule Ball, the reader is shown events through every character’s eyes. This unique idea is what is so engaging, so give the first chapter a try – you won’t regret it.

    Poem
Opinions is a rhyme that conveys its message perfectly. Each stanza shows a new opinion of a person, and the last stanza shows that those opinions were wrong. This poem is a good read for everyone, and it deserves more comments.

    Thread
The Which Historical Figure Would You Erase From Existence? thread is one beckoning for some more discussion. History buff or not, you’re sure to have an opinion and to agree or disagree with other users. Head over there now to share your thoughts, and remember to keep the discussion respectful.

    A Friendly Reminder!

    Plagiarism
Lately users have been concerned about plagiarism, and quite a few reports have been coming in. However, there seems to be a misunderstanding about what plagiarism actually is. The staff posted an article explaining what plagiarism is and isn’t, and how it’s dealt with on Mibba. Please take the time to read this brief article, and leave a comment or contact a staff member if you have any questions.

More information about, plagiarism, stories and poems, and Mibba’s rules, can be found in the Knowledge Base.

Mibba Newsletter: Introducing Daily Mibba Writing Prompts!

    Image

    Hello Mibbians!

This week’s newsletter gives you some more information about the Daily Writing Prompts! There’s also a fan fiction contest suited for almost everyone, and some great pieces of writing for you to read!

    What’s New?

Mibba has just launched its Daily Writing Prompts! A new prompt will be posted every day in the thread, and older prompts are collected in the first few posts to make searching easier. Every section of the site has at least one prompt per week, and if you choose to write a piece based on the prompt, make sure you tag it with the appropriate tag (e.g. WP001). If you’ve got a cool writing prompt for a story, poem, blog or article, share it in the Writing Prompts thread, and it might be the next featured prompt! For more information, have a quick read of the introductory article.

    The Rec Section

    Contest
If you’re a writer of fan fiction, then you have to check out the Spice It Up With a Twist contest! Any fandom is accepted, as long as your short story contains an unexpected twist. If you’re interested, head over to the thread, read the rules, then enter and get started!

    Story
Love tear-jerking stories? If so, you have to read Remember That Boy. This story conveys the pain of losing someone you love and how difficult it can be to deal with. The words fall together on the page incredibly, and even if you’re not a fan of original fiction, it’s still worth a try.

    Poem
Fear is a brilliant piece that conveys the worries and fears of nothing. If you’re looking for a poem that’s easy to relate to, this is it. The emotions are described beautifully, and you’re guaranteed to enjoy reading it.

    Thread
Mibbians frequently create trailers for their stories and use this to entice readers and promote their story. If you’re interested in learning how to make them, want to see other videos for ideas, or would like to make a request, visit the Story Trailers thread.

    A Friendly Reminder!

    New Story Rule!
Yet another rule has been added to the Knowledge Base. As stated in the Story Guidelines, stories can no longer contain bashing, insults or threats in their summaries, descriptions, or author’s notes. These tend to be directed at readers or plagiarists, and this is not acceptable. Report any stories you find breaking the rules to a Story Editor via PM and they will remove it. Please take note that bashing, insults or threats are not allowed anywhere on Mibba.
