The Revolution

Xhex stood in a line of dirty, malnourished vampires. There were shackles encasing his wrist, chains dangling from his shackles to the others in line with him. Before him was a large stage, an area where his kind were auctioned off like slaughter meat. Or slaves, since that's what they really were. Auctioneers announced each vampire, listing the pros and trying to get the highest bidding each time. Xhex was next on the stage and as he was lead up the lights almost blinded him. As malnourished as he was, Xhex wasn't able to put up much of a fight and as the auctioneers began their speech he glared into the shadowed crowd, daring the humans to place a bid.

Elizabeth glanced up when a new slave went onto the stage. She didn't really want to be there. Actually she didn't even want a slave. Yet her father was making her get one in order to keep up their 'status'. They already had a few slaves but yet she had to have her own personal one to make sure that the country knew they were strong. At least he thought that they would see it that way. She let out a small sigh and then looked Xhex up and down. He seemed alright she supposed. Really she just needed someone to bring home and he might as well be it. A few others were already bidding on him. Elizabeth raised her paddle, placing a bet.

Xhex continued to stand on the stage, his fury mounting with each bid. Normally he would have fought, but lack of blood and whatever drug these slavers had been pumping into him kept him weak. Fortunately, none of the humans here knew exactly who he was - they would have killed him immediately - and the vampires were all keeping his identity secret. Once the bidding was over and a human declared the winner, Xhex was shoved from the stage before he could see who his new 'master' was. Once away from the main crowed the slavers hosed him down with freezing water, gave him a plain shirt and jeans, then - after he was dressed - grabbed his chains and lead him to the back of the building where his master was to pick him up.

Elizabeth got out of her seat and headed to the back of the bulding once she won. There was no doubt that she wasn't going to get him. Her parents were far beyond wealthy and no one wanted to bid against her since her family was in charge. She went to the back, handing an employee money once her slave was brought to her. She looked him up and down again before having one of the guards bring Xhex to her car. Once he was thrown into the back seat, she sat down besides him and had her driver bring them home. Elizabeth waited for them to get down the street before looking over at the vampire. "What is your name?"

Still chained, Xhex glared at the woman next to him. He gritted his teeth, hating that he was forced in this situation, "Xhex." He spat, looking as if he'd rather be grind down into rat food rather then sitting next to her, "I suppose you're my new 'Master'." He sneered, "Well, good luck, Lady, because I'm not some docile pet that you can take out and dust anytime you want to show off." With that said he sat back against the seat, turning his glare toward the space in front of him.

Elizabeth closed her eyes for a moment, trying to keep herself calm. She hated this whole situation. This was not what she wanted. Elizabeth was terrified of vampires since she was born and now she had to have one as a slave when she was already a slave to one before! At least she knew that there was nothing he could do. Xhex was too weak. Opening her eyes, Elizabeth looked out of the window. "I'd keep that talk hidden when we get to the house. I mean unless you want to be punished right away." She was trying to avoid being a cruel master if she could. Elizabeth would prefer that he wasn't punished, but she knew her father would not hesitate for a moment. Elizabeth on the other hand tried to avoid handing out punishments unless she had to and Xhex was already getting close sadly.

Xhex glared at her, "There's nothing new you or your family can do to me." He refocused his gaze to in front of him, "I've been through it all." Memories of the night his family died flashed through him. It had happened so long ago, but seemed like just yesterday. He sat beside her, body tense and stiff, as the limo continued to drive on. Finally he couldn't take the silence and turned to her, "Why me?" He asked, "Why bid on me? Why choose me as your slave? There were so many others there."

Elizabeth stayed quiet at first when Xhex asked his question. She really didn't feel the need to answer it but she knew that she might as well. Elizabeth had no desire to be a cruel owner and answering some questions didn't hurt. "Honestly?" She said as she looked up at him. "Because I didn't want a slave in the first place and when you came up, I did not want to be there any longer and I thought that you might as well be it." It was true, she didn't have a special reason for picking Xhex. The limo pulled into a long drive, going up to a huge, magneficant castle. The limo stopped and Elizabeth got out.

Xhex was silent as he studied her. She didn't want a slave? Then why had she been there? He didn't understand her, didn't understand this odd situation he was in, but as they pulled into what seemed to be her drive his eyes widened. This was where she lived? He turned to watcher her get out, eyes wide. Sighing he popped open his own door and got to shaky feet, "I hope you don't expect me to clean all these windows," he snarled at her, "Because it isn't going to happen." He shut his door, then leaned back against it.

Elizabeth rolled her eyes before turning around on her heels. She didn't understand why he was being so difficult! Surely this vampire knew that he was going to get picked by someone and she certaintly was not one of the worse. She was even putting up with some of his hositily! "Please stop with the snappy comments! Can't you see that I do not want to be a bad master! Can't you see that I am trying to make this easy for both of us! If you will just stop fighting me then maybe we can both get through unpleasant situation. I do not want to have you here but I am forced to have my own personal slave. I can not get myself out of it so can you please stop before you get both of us in trouble."

Xhex slowly followed her, thinking over her words. Was she telling the truth? Did she really want to make this as easy as possible? Or was she just trying to lure him into a false hope? Pretend to be nice to him then rip it all away? Shaking his head he walked behind her, wondering where she was taking him. With a sigh he finally said, "Fine. Lets say I believe you, that I believe you just want to make things easy, what are you going to do now? What am I supposed to do?" He sneered, "Am I supposed to wait on you hand and foot?"

Elizabeth gritted her teeth together when Xhex continued to talk to her with attitude. "You do whatever I say because you're only mine. You don't clean, you don't cook, you are there so if I want something, you'll do it." She got to the door, which the driver opened for her. "Now if you keep talking to me with that attitude you'll get in more trouble than you can handle and you won't be able to blame me for it. So keep your mouth shut." As she walked into the castle, which had a grand entrance. There were two vampires who were cleaning, though upon seeing Elizabeth they scampered off.

Xhex gritted his own teeth, body tense as he walked in and saw how the vampires reacted to his new Mistress. He supposed that it was better to only be owned by one rather then multiple, but why be owned at all? Shaking his head he followed her, eyes glaring daggers into the back of her head, "So, where are we going, Mistress?" he asked, emphasizing that last word. Before the big uprising Xhex had been a soft, caring vampire who just wanted to help others, but now? After spending time in all those Slave auctions and even a few fighting rings Xhex was now a bit more harder in his attitude... but he'd had to be, to survive.

Elizabeth wished that the maid weren't there when she came in. Xhex didn't understand, he didn't know and she didn't want to explain it or even say it! Those vampires weren't scared of her, but they knew what would happen if they did something to her. It was why they all tried to avoid her. Her body tensed up a bit more. "Please stop." She mumbled to him. "I'm serious, please." She walked through the halls before getting to a room with strong, oak doors. Elizabeth knocked on the door before a loud, strong voice told her to come inside. She slipped in between the doors, expecting Xhex to follow her inside. There was a large, muscular man sitting behind a desk. He was working on something but when he saw Elizabeth, the man stopped and smiled up at her. "Daughter, sit down." She smiled a little bit before sitting in one of the chairs. Every one knew who this man was, vampires and humans alike. He was the man who lead the revolution against the vampires. He was the one who personally ripped the kings and queens heads off. He was Edmund Hallows. Also known as King Hallows. "Now lets see what you bought today." He looked up at Xhex.

As Xhex followed Elizabeth through her home an eerie feeling descended on him. It was as if his already nonexistent body temperature dropped even lower. His eyes narrowed as he felt the presence of a beating heart beyond the large doors. He didn't have the powers of precognition, but even he knew that what was coming up was going to be shocking. He wasn't let down either, as he stared at the man who had destroyed his world. What Edmund Hallows didn't know was that Xhex had watched the human murder his parents, had watched at their heads were ripped apart, and had ran off before Hallows could go after him - or even recognize him. At first, all Xhex could think about as he stood there staring at his worst enemy was charging and killing him. It would be easy, catching the man off guard and just shoving the envelope knife on the desk into the man's throat, but then another thought occurred. If Xhex gained this man's trust - using his daughter as a bridge - then Xhex would have the ultimate revenge. How embarrassing would it be to learn that the vampire that would be your down fall was actually your daughter's personal servant? So Xhex found hiimself falling back on the 'Slave Classes' that had been forced on him, dropping his head and crossing his hands behind him. He kept Hallows in his peripheral vision, but didn't show any outward signs of fighting his new position.

Hallows began to walk around the slave, looking him up and down. He had not expected his daughter to choose a male, especially a strong looking one. After all Hallows knew how uncomfortable she was around vampires, how she was still frightened of them. It was actually why he made her get a vampire, so his daughter would see just how weak they were now. How much of a hold they had on them now. "Has he caused any problems for you?" Hallows finally asked Elizabeth. Elizabeth of course knew the honest answer, yes. Xhex was a pain and she couldn't see it getting any better. Yet she didn't want anyone to be treated as poorly as she was when she was a slave, so she lied. "No daddy." She said as she turned in her chair, facing the two of them. Hallows nodded before returning back to his seat. "Then show him around and tell him what his job is. Dinner is in an hour so make it quick." Elizabeth stood up, kissed his cheek before heading out of the room.

Xhex had kept his head down while Hallows had circled him like a shark circled potential prey. He was a bit surprised at Elizabeth's answer, though, and buried that shock under a blank face. He hadn't expected her to lie - protect him - to her father. So why did she? What was her angle in helping him out? Xhex hated the confusion. Still, he kept his gaze on his feet and his hands crossed at the small of his back. It wouldn't do to rise suspicions in Hallows now, but Xhex knew this wasn't going to be easy. His personality wasn't a doormat, but he'd have to learn quick. In a place like this there were always eyes following you around every corner. Xhex couldn't chance his hatred of Hallows to come out and ruin everything.

So, when Elizabeth walked from the room, Xhex followed at a sedated pace, the appropriate four steps of space between them. He had bowed appropriately to Hallows before leaving. Had opened the door for Elizabeth. For all intents and purposes it looked like Xhex was a good and well mannered servant, but inside he was seething. He was a prince! Sure, he'd never been a selfish prince who expected all to bow to him and open door for him, but neither was opening doors for others something he did! Still, he played the part, following his new mistress down the hall, "Madam?" He asked, his tone holding respect even though he wanted to spit at the title, "Where are you leading us?"

The moment Xhex spoke, Elizabeth turned on her heels, her eyes narrowing at him suspeciously. The sudden change in manner surprised her and she did not like it because she didn't know the reason. Sure she expected this when her father was around but not when they were alone. Xhex had already clearly shown that he did not respect her nor that he was willing to bow down so easily. She glanced around them before pulling him into an empty room with her. She did not trust him or any vampire for that matter so she wanted to know what was going on. "Why the sudden change?" Elizabeth asked as she leaned back onto her foot, folding her arms. She wasn't stupid so she expected a real answer.

Xhex was a little surprised when Elizabeth forced him into a room. He studied her, his eyes trailing over her face, "Because everywhere in this house are people who will turn me in if I do something wrong." He sneered a little, "I don't like spys and I definitely don't want one to be my downfall." With a roll of his eyes Xhex began walking around the room, "So why didn't you tell your dad the truth?"
