Hannibal

I can't believe this didn't have a thread.

Anyways, Hannibal, the new show on NBC based on the novel Red Dragon that focuses on the main characters of Will Graham, a special investigator for the FBI, and psychiatrist/cannibalistic serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

It's very graphic and very emotional, but the creator/writers/producers are doing it right (even though I couldn't tell you a thing about the novels or movies).

This show is brilliant. I'm so incredibly glad it got renewed for a second season.

One of the (many) things I love about it though, is that while it can be incredibly graphic at times, it's not done in a distasteful way. You're not getting gore just to have gore, like so many other 'horror' shows/movies like to do. You get the very real, very ugly actuality that there are people in this world that can inflict horrendous and what seems to be unthinkable things on others.

I've also really loved (while also being in absolutely complete agony over it) the way they've portrayed Will and his empathy. As an emotional empath myself, statements Will has made as well the way they've showed the way he's handled all this extra emotion (his panic attacks, his disorientation, the issues he's had disassociating himself from the killers he's profiling/feeling, and some of the imagery, like the huge wave of water in his dreams in the last episode) are all things I have to deal with as well and in fact have at times triggered myself into similar reactions because Hugh Dancy's performance is just that good. While I disagree with Hannibal's assessment that Will has an empathy "disorder", I can't help but appreciate how they've written Will as an empath, as he's not treated as someone who is 'superhuman' or anything, but rather as a normal human being who just happens to see and feel the world a certain way. (And one of the biggest things that's always kept me hesitant from embracing my empathy/trying to explain it to people is the misconception that it's somehow a strange 'superpower' only evident in science fiction and fantasy.)

Plus the writing is utterly fantastic in ways that make me salivate (especially all of Hannibal's ridiculous freaking little inside "I eat people" jokes he has with himself "i just had an old friend for dinner" 'oh hahaha hannibal u so witty if only they could understand they'd think u were a fuckin' stand up comedian' I swear I think I live for them each episode) and the actors are just phenomenal.

in short if you are not watching hannibal then what are you doing with your life

I just finished watching the two most recent episodes.
I really like the show, and it inspired some gore in two of my stories. It's just so different from all of the other shows I watch, it's tooooooooo addicting. I feel so bad for Will though This last episode made me feel like giving him a hug.

this show is fantastic! i'm looking forward to seeing how they progress relationships within season 2 (yessss!!) i really want to see who Hannibal ends up with... and of course Mads Mikkelsen is incredible in any role uwu

I haven't yet written anything, as I don't really have any proper ideas yet. But I would like to try to write something, as I really want to explore Will's character personally. So if I do write anything, more than likely it will be centered around Will Graham.

Also after tonight's episode I wrote a bit of meta on the Will's reoccurring illusion of the stag which can be found here (my tumblr). In case anyone was interested.

Are we all ready for the season finale next week guys? I'm excited but also really worried for Will.

Thank God I found this thread so I can express my love for this unbelievable show with fellow fans! Seriously, everything about the show is great and I love how different, yet similar, it is to the films.

The actors they chose are perfect. Mads Mikkelsen, my Lord, he is a brilliant actor and portrayes Hannibal so, so well. And not to mention that he has always been one of my older-men crushes... Hugh Dancy as Will Graham. I love it. I adore how awkward and frank he is. But I think it's the relationship between Will and Hannibal that really stands out to me.

Oh gosh, I'm already so emotionally destroyed. The finale might kill me. I heard there's gonna be a massive cliffhanger too.

The anticipation will kill me.

I really really really really love this show. I literally cannot imagine anything I would rather watch at the minute.

I love this show. It's just so different from what I usually watch, but Red Dragon is one of my favorite books and I knew that when they were going to make a show with the characters, I had to watch so I could be emotionally manipulated for thirteen weeks.

this finale is going to kill me.

but at least we won't have the cliffhanger as the final episode, because it was the last network show to be renewed for the season.

Probably tmi, but I'm going to be on my period during the finale and it's going to be SO AWFUL TO WATCH OH GOD. I'm already way too emotionally involved in this show.

Well, I don't know about you guys, but that finale wrecked me. I think I started crying about 5 minutes in, and I didn't stop until about midnight (it aired at 10 pm US eastern time for me).

Yeah, that was...wow. That was something. I am so psyched for next season though.

but even so, that finale, wow. I think I'm going to go curl up on the floor and think for a long time and it's been several days since it aired.

OH MY GOSH HANNIBAL! I am way too in love with this show. Like it's unhealthy how much I love it. Can you believe we have to wait until next year for season two, though?! Madness!

I absolutely love this show... Just everything about it is amazing. I hate that we have to wait a whole year for the next season. That's too long! But I'm glad we're getting a second season, so can't complain too much.

This thread needs reviving and reviving it shall receive! I am so surprised at how little this thread is getting, it needs more love. I love, love, love this show. It's just so well done and also, the cinematography is so beautiful. But yes, waiting till next year will be painful, but we will have plenty of Hannibal crack to keep us amused till then.
