I was wondering if a lot of people on Mibba speak lots of different languages. I'm multilingual, so I was wondering if there was a lot of others like me.
    I speak:
    French (1st language)
    German
    English
    Spanish
    A bit of Japanese.
    Croatian

Anyway, I think that my craze for languages is weird. In fact, I go through them all in my head. For example, when I'm going to say, "Hi. I'm Trish." I may think, Salut, Je suis Trish or Hallo, bin Ich Trish. It just happens. I think in French, though, so sometimes I have to translate to any other language. :)

Anyway, tell me if you speak any other languages. I love learning different things in other languages! (crazy language woman)

Well, English is my first language. The only other language I speak is French.

My grandparents are from Quebec, and even though my mom is American, her first language is French. So I grew up around it a lot and I learned it in school for 4 years.

I'm a little rusty now that I haven't spoken French in a while, but yeah. :)

I know Russian and Belarusian (both native), English (almost fluent) and conversational fluency in Ukrainian. I'm not a polyglot yet but I want to improve the last two languages and learn at least one or two more. I've studied quite a lot of languages before but there's always something that makes me give up, I think perhaps because I'm stagnating with English.

In the future I want to learn something really different, maybe continue with the small amount of Chinese I learned or begin with Japanese. It should be interesting because I don't have much experience with non-European languages. I'd love to learn a more obscure language but finding decent resources and fluent speakers is difficult.

In case anyone was interested in how to say hello, my name is... in these languages:

Russian - Привет, меня зовут... (privyet, menya zovut...)
Belarusian - Прывітанне, мяне клічуць... (priyvitanne, myanye klichuts...)
Ukrainian - Вітаю, мене звуть... (vitayu, mene zvut...)

My transliterations are shameful Facepalm The last two can be different depending on the region you are in, that is just the way I would speak.

English is my first language. I can also speak Spanish rather well. That's pretty much it for me. I try to learn others but I get sidetracked.

English and Spanish for me. My dad's [Norwegian] family and my dad are trying to convince me to learn Norwegian, although the first words that they taught me probably shouldn't be repeated.

English, obviously. I took Spanish for two years in middle school but I'm not too good at it. I took Latin this year, and I'm pretty decent at it. It makes me look a lot smarter, too.

Russian. . . Almost. Well, I catch myself thinking in it, so...
And I do find myself picking up some German, French, and Polish words. And I'm not even trying to learn the languages xD

English as a first. I'm trying to learn French and Korean. I'm much better at French though since I've been studying it longer. I'm not anywhere near fluent in it but I can probably keep up a conversation.

English is my first language. I know basic Spanish, I can get by in basic conversation. I learn Spanish because it's a necessity around where I live. I also know basic Japanese, I can get by in basic conversation and I'm doing my best to learn the rest of the language. I've always been interested in learning Japanese because of how big of a fascination with Japan I have.

In the future, I want to learn Chinese as well. Where I live, there's a pretty big population of Chinese migrants, so it'd be pretty useful to learn the language probably.

English is my native tongue, though I can understand French because my great-grandparents and grandparents are from Quebec. I spent 6 months in Germany, so I have a little German too. I will be minoring German in University though...

English is my native language, I can speak German fluently, and a little French (although I've forgotten a lot of vocab as I haven't studied it for four years now).

Ja, ich kann ein bisschen Deutsch sprechen, weil es mein Nebenfach an der Universität ist.
(Yes, I can speak a little German because it's my minor at the university.)

I started studying German my freshmen year of college to fulfill the language requirements, and because I did, my major actually changed. Previously, I had been a registered English major with aspirations to change to Microbiology. (Long story there....) Yet because of that class, I ended up changing to Linguistics, the study of languages. German, however, remained my intended minor, even after I picked up anthropology as a minor. (Another long story.)

Also, because of my major change, my language requirements went up. I still had four semesters to take of one language, but I also had to take two semesters of another -- and this other one had to be a non-Indo-European language. So I went with Japanese. Despite doing well in those two classes, I don't remember much now, which is a real shame.

Before college, I took Spanish in high school for two "years." I can't really speak it, and I really only pick up a few words here or there in conversations, but I don't do a bad job of translating things that I read. In fact, sometimes it's easier for me to do that in Spanish than in German, which I've taken for longer.

I actually have aspirations to learn five languages, but I doubt that will happen in my lifetime. Even with my lax personal requirements for "knowing" a language, I can only justify German (and maybe Spanish if I'm feeling generous). So that only puts me at two (maybe three) at the age of (barely) twenty-one. So yeah...I kind of doubt I'll ever reach my goal of five languages. Still, I can try.

Polish is my first language and I think I speak English well. I had German in gymnasium, but I can only introduce myself, but I'm gonna have Russian and Latin in high school so I hope I'll manage to speak them fairly well.
