    Talk about taboos!

What are some social taboos that you don't understand or think are ridiculous?
Or, what are some things that are not widely accepted as taboo, but you think should be?

One taboo that I don't understand: Sex before a certain age.
I believe that as long as it is safe, sane, and consensual, both people know what they are doing and are mature enough to understand what is going on, they should be allowed to have sex without scorn.

Does "taboo" mean to look at with scorn? I thought it just meant something not often discussed by society.

    ---

    Taboos:

    - menstruation
    - staying in a relationship after an infidelity has occurred
    - polyamorous relationships
    - BDSM

    @ dru vs. slut shaming
Taboo is just something banned or condemned by society at large on grounds of morality or taste.

    Sorry for any confusion.

For me taboo was sex with a minor. But...among Hispanics sometimes the girls and boys are a bit mature for their age. There was this couple at my church, right? The girl was aged fourteen (if I remember correctly) and he was either nineteen about to onto twenty, or twenty going on twenty-one. Regardless, the relationship was a bit scandalous and me being the ever nosy ass bitch, I spoke up about it. Years later I realized that I can't say anything. If the girl is consenting, and the parents are aware, then...let it be.

I ended up turning into those kinds of people that want to force their opinion down someone's throat. I backed off, and as much as other people still see it as taboo as well as statutory rape...I don't. If the parents are aware, the girl (or boy) is aware of his or her actions, then...let them be.

Plus the girl grew up for the most part in her home country, and over there not everything is sugar coated, or y'know easy like it is for us over here. I've seen this girl interact with people, she's a whole lot mature and she's got all of her thoughts and everything together. It's crazy, but I admire her. I believe she's seventeen now.
