With that wink, she knew that she could probably finish a bottle of wine let alone a glass. Veronica let her body shudder with disgust before moving back underneath the crime scene tape to get back to the car. She wondered why out of all the people in the business they were lumped together. They couldn't have picked two more mismatched people even if they had tried. "Be careful what you wish for." Veronica warned him since it really sounded like a good plan right about then.

Nick frowned since that had to be impossible that it had been his child since he knew that he had made sure to use protection. He was about to yell that it was someone else's child before she cut him off with an explanation that shot him down. "Yeah! I want that child tested before I get any part in that!" He called out to her as she went back to the car with his 'so-called' child. Even from as long as they had been apart, she still couldn't kick her habit of lying to people.

Sam really felt like driving them off of a cliff of something about now. He couldn't take it - and he was miserable that he had to deal with her right now. "Oh - I wasn't kidding!" He said with a wink. "I wish you would - because I really can't do this anymore! How the hell did we get put together - it's not like we can even put our differences away for long enough to solve this case... We're too different." He threw the car into drive and sped off.

Emma knew him so well that he would think that she was lying. It was always how he was - and she hated it right about now. "No - you're right - I don't want you to have any part of my child!" She said softly, rolling her eyes at him. "All I want is child support - and you can go around living your stupid good-for-nothing life! Knowing you, you'd probably kill the kid, so you won't have to see him at all - I just need the child support for a child that you forced me into creating."

Veronica sighed as he went off on tangent about how they both really disliked each other and looked outside of the window. "What do you want from me?" She questioned since he was really starting to get on her nerves from the whole thing. "I'll play nice but don't think that I'm going to become best friends with you." She started to feel a migraine coming up from all of the shouting that he was doing.

"Fine, good luck with being a teenage mother!" He threw back as he slammed the door shut in front of him as she went back into the car. How had he ever been together with a person like that? Nick wasn't about to tell his mother that his ex-girlfriend had a child on the way and that he would be paying child support. That would surely get him kicked out of the house for good.

Sam smirked at her and rolled his eyes. He calmed his voice suddenly and then sighed. "Aw, you don't want to be my best friend?!" He asked teasingly with a chuckle. "I still see all of this as impossible - why were we even put together? We make a terrible team!" He sighed and shook his head as he drove up to the morgue. Here they went again... None of it seemed right.

"Fuck you!" Emma yelled back to him as he slammed the door. She climbed back into her car and completely broke down. She was hoping that he would be more understanding... She was having his child! Did that account for nothing?! No - of course, she was only lying still and she had gotten knocked up by some random guy. At this time, she wished that was the case...

At that point, she was basically through with all the fighting and just wanted to make it out of the case without ripping her own head off. "Can we at least make a truce to make it through this whole thing? Put aside the fact that you're a human and I'm a vampire." Veronica tried to not sound defeated by his personality but it was really the case - he tired her out.

Nick sat down on the couch in the living room rubbing his temples wondering how he was going to come up with the money. The court had to take some pity on him in the matter since he was unemployed and wasn't in school at all. That had to count for something when it came to the money he would have to pay her. This had to be her plan all along to make his life miserable even without her in it. She always wanted something to go wrong in his life and this was something to add to the list.

Sam nodded his head lightly. He would just have to deal with her. Although...he was mostly thrilled that she was so defeated by him - he liked knowing that he had tired her out like he had. "Fine," he said exasperatedly. "As far as you're concerned, you're just another human to me," he teased. They could do this... They would have to get used to one another.

Emma hated this... When she imagined getting pregnant, she imagined having a guy who would be there - one who would make late night rides for her cravings and assist her to all of her appointments. This wasnt what she wanted at all. And what was worse was that part of her still loved him... Ahe still hated him - but she will really loved him. And he wanted nothing to do with her... Why couldn't he understand?

"And you're just another vampire." She continued as if to even out the playing field with what he had said. Veronica hoped that she would be able to at least get through the case without wanting to rip her head off this way. They had to be able to be around each other since they were partners.

[So, how should we get them to make up? Since they won't want to see each other.]

Sam let out a chuckle and shook his head. "Yeah - sure... Just another vampire," he teased. It all sounded ridiculous, but it was how they were getting along... He pulled up to the morgue again and tried to smile weakly over at her, though it was still difficult to do. "So let's go identify some bodies, partner..." He said with a teasing wink.

[i was thinking that they should somehow run into each other somewhere and he doesn't want to just pay child support, but he decided he would rather be part of the child's life, so they start talking and all]

If she had to imagine that he was a vampire to get along, so be it. It was pretty stupid but there was nothing else that would make them blend in the same environment would actually taking out one another. Veronica wanted to shiver under the word 'partner', but it wasn't because she disliked being partners with him. She just never worked with other people before. It was strange having someone to share an opinion with or talk to during the investigation. "Uh huh. Hopefully we can, at least."

It had been a few days since Emma had informed him of the little mishap that had occurred between them. Nick still wasn't sure if he would be able to come up with the money for the child. If he didn't pay the child support, he knew that Emma would get him sent to jail for it. Jail was one of those places that even he didn't want to venture into to get away from it all. Nick got into one of his usual fights with his mother was kicked out of the house for the night. So, he was left wandering the streets in his pick-up truck as usual. By then, he had already picked out a spot for every time he was kicked out in front of the local grocery store. As long as he didn't steal from them, the manager didn't really mind.

Sam could basically see the internal shiver at his words... He could just see these things. He wondered what it was from. Here he was, trying to be perfectly nice, and she was making it difficult! "I'm sure it won't be that hard!" He said in an enthusiastic voice and then climbed out of the car, smirking as they walked inside. Man, he would be really excited when all of this was over...

Emma sighed a little as she made her way to the grocery store. She had to buy some groceries - since her parents were basically grumbling at her all the time for getting knocked up. As she walked through the parking lot, she caught sight of a figure - and hell did it look like... Wait, was it him? She stopped dead in the middle of the parking lot, not wanting to be anywhere near him at all. He didn't have any part in her life! Still, she couldn't let him bully her into not using the grocery store... That was ridiculous. She walked towards him slowly, avoiding eye contact.

Even though it didn't really seem like it, Veronica was trying to get along with her human partner. It was a stretch for her to even communicate with a person let alone trying to work with them. "Look. Let's just see if Forensics was able to come up with something from the DNA that was sent to them."

Nick could see that she was obviously trying to avoid him and didn't really blame her. He didn't would have wanted to avoid her, too, but he really did have to talk to her. There was no way he would be able to come up with the money to pay child support. Nick was hanging by a thread himself. "Hey.. Emma. I need to talk to you."

Sam smiled as she offered and he nodded his head. "That sounds like a good idea. I'll get the report." He went across the room to the files and picked up everything of the file, including what evidence was there. He loved this part... He loved being a detective like this.

Emma sighed a little as she heard his voice address him and she ran a hand through her hair, looking at him weakly. "I thought you didn't want to talk to me - and I'm over it. I told you you don't even need to be part of its life..." She could see something was on his mind - but she didn't want to deal with it.

She sighed since that had probably been the first time that they had been able to exchange words without fighting. "So, what does it say?" Veronica asked as she came up behind Sam to peer over his shoulder to look at the file. It was obvious that they had a human and a vampire that were dead on their hands but that was all they knew.

He swallowed the urge to say that he didn't want to talk to her but it would only set her off. "I changed my mind.. I want to be in the baby's life." Nick wasn't going to tell her that he didn't have enough money to pay for child support since Emma would tell him to screw off. "I grew up without a father and look how I turned out.. I don't want my child to turn out this way."

Sam sighed as he looked over the papers. It looked like they had just as little information through the forensics as much as they had before... "Looks like they didn't find much else out. Do vampires have dental records?" He asked. "We could find the identity of the human with dental records..."

Emma crossed her arms as she looked at him and then frowned at his words... She didn't know if she could let him be around the baby. That was child endangerment - and she didn't like it. "I - I don't know, Nick..." She said softly. "You've hit me... How can I know that you wouldn't do the same to my child?!"

"Yes, it should be there. The dental records should be mentioned inside of the file if they found something." Veronica told him knowing that one or the other had to be able to identify the people. It wouldn't be easy case of they weren't able to do it.

Nick took in a deep breath and grit his jaw slightly not knowing how to convince her. "I would never hurt my child." He stated knowing that it what was she needed to hear. "I can promise you that. I have never and will never hurt a child."

Sam rolled his eyes. "Hell - I can never decipher these stupid files!" He groaned in anger. "You read it," he handed the file over to her. "I'm sure you and your vampire - err, human - senses will be much better at it!" He chuckled, rolling his eyes lightly.

Emma self-consciously put her hand on her stomach, protecting their child. She was only two and a half months along, and not showing yet, but she still felt connected already - even if she hated the man who was the father. "But you're okay with hitting a girl," she murmured softly. "I don't know....Nick, I don't know if I can trust you. You never trusted me, and you had nothing to feel insecure with me... But this is a child we're talking about.

She sighed since the files were so easy to read and it was a basic skill. Taking the file out of his hand, she thumbed through the papers and pulled out the records. "Abigail Fieldman. It says that she had high levels of alcohol in her system at the time of death. I wonder if there is a nightclub nearby since it would make sense with the clothes." Veronica knew that the place had to have at least several but which one would be hard to figure out.

"You really want to get your personal feelings get in the way of letting your child have a father? Do you know how many mothers wished that their child would have a father around?" Nick questioned since he knew that feeling himself of always wondering where his father was as he grew up. "I am trying to have a life with my son or daughter. If I know I am in a bad mood, I am going to pretend like I am in a good mood for my child. My child is my blood and sorry but you're not Emma."

Sam rolled his eyes as she read it so easily and he crossed his arms. It wasnt his fault that they made them so cryptic - and he usually let his partners do the easy jobs like that so he could focus on the real work. He teasingly whistled at the remark of her clothing. "Yeah - we should search all of the clubs on the area... See who she was with on the night that she died."

Emma crossed her arms, cradling her stomach in them and sighing slightly. No, she didn't want we child to go without a father - but did that mean she wanted Nick as the father? That seemed like a bad idea - but she also couldn't stop his rights... "Fine, have the baby then!" She answered, wiping away a tear that came out of her eye. "I'll just be your baby incubator and then you can have it - because I don't want my child to be raised by such a lowlife camping out on the side of the road!" She stomped her foot.

It was her turn to roll the eyes as he whistled at her inappropriately. Why had she been partnered with him? That was the golden question that she would have to ask her boss when the case was over. "Yep, that would be the next step. Let's go, Jeeves." Veronica placed the file back into the spot where they had found it before spinning on her head to leave the room.

Nick sighed since she was so frustrating to try to work with. "It isn't right if I just take the baby away. Plus, it needs a mother, too. A baby needs to grow up with both parents around otherwise it isn't the same." Then came the water works. That made him even more infuriated since it was him who should be getting upset not her! He was the one who came forward to help out the child and she was trying to keep him out of its life. "I am going to get a job! It isn't my fault that my mother kicked me out of the house over the way that I just asked her how her day went!"

Sam knew he was still bugging her - and honestly, he thought that was slightly funny. He liked being able to annoy her, even if they were partners... It seemed she couldn't take his sarcasm. He enjoyed that from a vampire. "Jeeves? I'm Sam!" He teased. "What is that an old partner or something?" He knew it was just a name, probably to annoy him, but he was entertained at the moment.

Emma sighed a little and ran her hands through her hair as she tried to deal with this situation. It wasnt right... She shouldn't submit her child to never seeing it's father when he was offering to be a part of it, but she didn't know which was worse... Should she left him be a part of its life in the fear that he could hurt the child? She wasn't sure what she could do. "Fine." She said softly, miserably because that meant she still couldn't move on from him. She glanced up at him. "But when the baby's born I'm going to be around at all times... I can't risk you hurting the baby." She didn't want that. She didn't want to be around him any longer, but it was best for her child.
