The Things We Say

Tommy woke up with a start in the morning, running a hand through his hair and sighing loudly to himself. This all just wasnt fair... All he thought about was her... Charlie Light... The girl who had stolen his heart and then broke it into a million pieces. At least that was how it felt, him being the victim in it all - but now he couldn't be sure... Was it mutual? Had she moved on already? Was she with some guy that could make her much happier than he ever could? He hoped not... He knew too much about their relationship as it previously was to think that they would ever break apart and move on that quickly - but he could never be too sure. All he knew was that he had someone lost her - and as he got out of bed to go on with his day and move on with his life, he knew that he hated himself for it.

Emma sat in the little coffee shop. She had her iPhone in her hand and her friends on the other side of the table, but all she was focused on was Austin. Austin Sanders. She knew about him: a player... The type of guy who got what he wanted from every girl. Unfortunately she had her eyes on him even through all of this. She knew he was a player, but she was sure she could tame him. She knew it was always a game in his mind, but this was going to be the endgame... She may have been innocent physically, but she could still be not so innocent in the way that she liked the game too... She liked the thought of trying to persuade him away from his normal type of behaviors. She was certain she was going to tame him.

Charlie woke in the morning the sun shining in her eyes. Charlie went on vacation. She hadn't told anyone she was leaving but she left. Only her boss and landlord knew. Charlie didn't even open her eyes before the peacefulness of sleep left and the pain set in. She curled up into a tight ball pulling fresh tissues from the box as she opened her eyes. The light stung as she looked around the white cabin. She didn't move just let the tears fall. She didn't understand why this was happening. Charlie loved Tommy so much and she didn't understand why he had broken her heart. Charlie felt the tears fall and she pressed a tissue to her eyes. She had thought they would get married and have a life together but no he hadn't wanted that. And now he was probably moving on and there was nothing she could do to change his mind.

Austin was sitting with his friends laughing. He looked over at Emma. That sweet little thing was eyeing him like she had an urge to give him her innocence. Austin gave her his most sexy smile. He winked at her and then took a sip of his coffee. He was waiting for her to come up to him but he wasn't about to leave her alone. He wanted to take her innocence and would do anything to get it.

Tommy sighed a little as he got up. Why did everything he did ache so badly for her? Of course... There was that pretty blonde that he had exchanged numbers and sent a text or two every once and a while, but she didn't fix the broken parts of him. Hell, she probably didn't even know he was broken... She didn't know that every time they were together, he was comparing her to Charlie. She even kind of looked sort of like her - maybe that was why he pursued her - but she wasnt nearly as beautiful... There wasnt a spark like the one with Charlie. He smiled lightly, melancholy, as he saw that she had texted him though... How badly he wished he saw Charlie's name flash across the screen - or rather, her number... He had deleted her number - not that it would matter... He had already memorized it. Why was he so lost without her?

Emma smirked a little as Austin winked over at her. That was what se liked to see! She saw the way that his eyes just ate her up. She knew about his games. She knew about the way that he tried to turn the good girls into bad girls - but he was in for a wake up call here. She wasnt letting that happen. She would play his game... But he wasnt the one that was going to win in the end. No - she was going to show him that there was more than just sex. Maybe she'd even fall for him - and maybe he'd fall for her back. All she knew was that she liked her own games as well. And his was one she wanted to play. She stood and walked over to his table, winking at him and taking a seat across from him with a smirk. Yes, she knew how to make an entrance.

Charlie didn't know how long she would be gone but she knew she would be gone long enough to be able to get back on her feet. She wanted to be workable again, to be able to get up in the morning and not cry until the sun goes down. Charlie finally stopped crying long enough to go make something to eat though she knew she would probably sit there and pick at it.

Austin looked over at his buddy next to her and smirked. He then looked back at Emma. "Well hello there beautiful. I'm Austin." He leaned forward and smiled at her, his award winning smile was enough to make any girl melt there in her seat. Austin picked up his camera. "Can I take your picture?"

Tommy figured he might as well go out with her. There was nothing holding him back - and he couldn't keep living in this rut... It would bother him too much, and he needed to move on - even if it killed him inside. Wanna go out for a lunch date? I'll pick you up from your office. that would be a good way to start - no thought of what would happen after the date - because they would both have work.

Emma smirked as she watched him glance at his friend and smirk. Yup, he definitely wanted to cause some trouble - but was she the innocent girl? Maybe... But he wouldn't win. She was slightly affected by his smile but merely giggled. "I'm Emma," she said with a wink. "Well - of course I would. Should I model for you?" She teased.

Charlie was sitting at the table tears dripping into her eggs. She ahd eaten the toast but the egg she had scrabbled just didn't look good anymore. She got up and tossed it away cleaning the dished and going to shower. She needed to go outside. It had only been a week since she had left and a week since the breakup. "Half a month." she said as she stood there naked before getting in the shower. Maybe she could ride down to the beach and go for a run.

Austin smirked. "No Just act natural." he said and smiled. He didn't take the picture right away. "Can I buy you a coffee..." Austin paused and leaned in his fingers running over the back of her hand. "Emma." he said her name in a way they if the smile hadn't gotten to her the way he said her name would.

Tommy was a little distressed to hear that Miranda had the day off - and she jumped at the opportunity... She wanted him to take her on to the beach where they could hang out - though he knew she wanted more than just hanging out. He reluctantly obliged and then got ready to go meet her. He might as well make the best of it...

Emma winked at him and then cupped her cheek in her hand, resting that way with a smile. "A coffee sounds perfect," she said with a giggle as he brushed her hand and she pretended to shyly look down at the table as if she was shy... She may have been "innocent" - but she wasnt shy about anything. She knew she could tame him.

Charlie wasn't far away but she was far enough away that she wouldn't run into Tommy. She hadn't had her passport updated otherwise she would have gotten on a plan a world away and she thought about it. She thought about waiting for that passport and then never coming back getting lost on some beach somewhere. Charlie got out of the shower and started to dress. She figured she would make herself look like everything was fine today though they weren't. She had sobbed in the shower too sitting in the stream until the water got cold and had a cold shower as a punishment.

Austin smirked and stood. "What would you like?" he asked and looked down at her. His buddy stood and headed toward the coffee line. Austin licked over his bottom lip. she was like a precious lamb that he could gobble up. Austin grinned at the thought. He would make her a wolf after all.

Honestly, Tommy didn't want to go see Miranda. As she came out and she got into his car, he was instantly choked by her perfume and he saw that she was wearing too much makeup. Why couldn't she just be like Charlie? Charlie was so normal... She didn't have to wear too thick perfume - and she certainly never needed make up to make her look beautiful. She was beautiful all on her own. He still made an effort to smile at her and they started the drive to the beach.

Emma bit her lip in fake shyness and smiled at him as she stood. "I'd like a mocha latte... Extra whipped topping." She said with a giggle and leaned into him lightly. She liked this game... So much more fun than she had ever imagined it to be.

Charlie was ridding her bike toward the beach. She would pull over now and then to cry. She tried to peddle faster as if the physical activity was punishment and would keep the tears away. Charlie got to the beach and chained up her bike. She then ran out to the water and stood there looking out for a long time.

Austin smirked. "Sure thing. Wait here for me. I'll bring it back to you." he said and winked. Austin ran his hand up and down her back and joined his friend in line. They where murmuring about something and making jokes. Minutes later he came back with the latte and then sat across from her. Austin smiled. When she took a sip finally his camera when off. "Ahh That would be a keeper."

The car ride to the beach was awkward. Not just awkward - long and awkward, so it was nearly unbearable. It wasnt like he wasnt trying, but he just kept comparing - and that was hurting them. But as they got to the beach and she slipped her hand into his, he felt more comfortable and he smiled over at her. "I'm glad you suggested this, Miranda." He said with a smile. She only giggled.

Emma smirked a little. Of course, she knew he wasn't doing this because he was already wrapped around her little finger; she knew he thought that he could get her to do things... But she was determined to make him see things her way. "That's not even fair - I wasn't even ready for that one!" She teased.

Charlie walked for a while just to take in the ocean and it's majesty. Then when the pain started again she started to run and she ran fast. Charlie was ignoring the pain, ignoring her life, ignoring that it ever happened. They called it denial. Charlie didn't know if she would ever get better.

Austin smirked. "That's the point. You're beautiful but magic happens when you aren't looking." he winked. Austin ran a hand through his hair his friend going off to sit with someone else. "So Emma tell me about yourself, you got a boyfriend?"

Tommy sighed slightly as she set down a picnic blanket by the water and he tried to smile. He took a seat beside her, moving away slightly as she tried to snuggle into him. It was a little too soon for that... He was going to need a lot of time before any of that happened. He had loved Charlie too much.

Emma pretended to look modest and just blinked at him innocently. "Why - thank you!" She said with a soft giggle and then laughed at his words. "Boyfriend? Do you honestly think I'd be over here flirting with you if i did?" She wiggled her eyebrows teasingly.

Charlie ran and ran until she had to stop. she bent over her hands on her knees as she panted. Charlie felt like she might cry again but she couldn't run anymore. she was to tired to run.

Austin smiled as she liked his frilly words. He smirked as she revealed something about herself. "Awe not so innocent now." he chuckled. "Innocent girls don't ever admit to flirting because they don't know they are." he winked. "But still you have an innocent to you Emma. Tell me your secrets." He leaned in.

Tommy smiled lightly as they finally ended up walking along the beach. Their feet were in the rushing water and it felt good...to finally feel whole again. He doubted it would last though. It didn't feel like it would. He felt like he was playing pretend - but still she was mesmerizing to him.

Emma twirled her hair around her finger in the best way she knew how as she listened to him, and she giggled. "I've just got practice!" She said with a wink and then leaned in as he leaned into her. "What secrets?" She asked teasingly. "If I tell you all of my secrets now, how am I supposed to be mysterious?" She giggled.

Charlie fell into the sand and looked around seeing no one and just started to weep. Gosh she wished it didn't hurt this bad. Charlie had never thought her life would end up in a Taylor Swift song, but it had.

Austin smiled and captured a stray strand on the other side of her face and tucked it behind her ear. "If you say so Emma." he grinned. "So since you're single and I'm single what are you doing Friday?"

Tommy sighed as she leaned into him, fighting the urge to pull away slightly. She smelled too strongly of perfume, and he wished that he could get away - but he couldn't. Maybe he was meant to have a terrible relationship like this for the rest of his life.. He would never love anyone like he loved Charlie.

Emma giggled as he tucked her hair behind her ear and she pretended to be all the more shy and giddy about it. "You think you're so cunning, don't you?" She asked teasingly and giggled at him lightly. "Friday. Seven o'clock," she winked at him.

Charlie finally ran out of tears and looked at the water feeling like a swim but not thinking it wise when she didn't know if she wanted to come up for air. Charlie already felt like she couldn't breath what was the difference between this and water in the lungs? Charlie shook her head and started the long walk back.

Austin chuckled. "What makes you say that?" he asked and smiled. Austin smirked when she said yes. "Where should I pick you up Ms. Emma?" Austin smiled and leaned back crossing his legs under the table at the ankles.

Miranda leaned in to kiss him and tommy was too caught off guard to stop her. Instead he actually tried to enjoy it. He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer. He just needed her. He needed to feel like he could love again.

Emma giggled at him and shrugged. "That's my secret," she said teasingly. "That would be at the apartment building across town - apartment 251. What should I wear? Something dressy or causal?"
