- Being withdrawn or isolating oneself
- Talking about wanting to die and/or killing oneself
- Envying others who commit suicide
- Having an obsession with death
- Talking about hopelessness or having no reason to live
- Talking about being in unbearable pain or feeling trapped
- Increased substance (alcohol or drugs) use; self-harm
- Sleeping too little or too much
- Loss of interest in things they once cared about
- Giving things away such as prized possessions
- Increased rage or seeking revenge
- Dramatic mood changes
- Loss of interest in maintaining hygiene
