Geek Culture is experiencing a rise, just this last Summer the theatres have been full of superheroes and villians with Superman's "Man of Steel", The Wolverine, Iron Man 3, and the Star Trek sequel "Into Darkness" (putting a newly dubbed geek favorite Benedict Cumberbatch in the roll of Kahn) and over all geeky movies (This Is The End by stoner geek Seth Rogen, and The End of The World by pop culture super geek Simon Pegg), The Big Bang Theory has been putting geek culture under the mainstream spotlight (confusing a lot of non-geeks), and we seem to have exploded in even the smallest of ways all across the Net in the form of individual blogs and vlogs celebrating our interests and lifestyles.
    It's pretty... great actually.

    So let's talk about it.

There are a million different types of Geeks, which are you?

I'm getting ready to go to my first "con" in June next year. Just because I see so many pictures and they look so fun.

I am most definitely a "video game nerd". When I'm not consumed with Mibba, I will spend hours in front of the TV playing video games. I'm always there at midnight releases, pre-order almost every new game, watch play-throughs on youtube, get into forum discussions...

And I fit the urban dictionary definitions almost perfectly.

Video games. Weird Anatomy. Marvel. All fantasy, especially things like Deltora Quest. Steampunk/Dieselpunk. Anything like D&D because interactive nerd games are the best.
& Literature. lmfao I frighten myself. Sometimes it feels like literature takes up 95% of my brain.

The Big Bang Theory is hillarious. Although everyone calls me Sheldon now. Damn.

I like science (physics, sociology, evolutionary), literature (critical analysis), science fiction, technology, comic books, graphic novels, I psychoanalize superheroes and villians, and yeah... I'm a geek.
I read philosophy fo fun yo!

I always get kind of confused between 'nerd' and 'geek'...but I've always claimed 'nerd' personally. I love scifi, literature, steampunk, science (biology, chemistry, genetics, evolution, forensics), and I love to meta over my fandoms.

I'm currently a Biological Sciences major as well. Cute

My family is pretty geeky/nerdy/whatever label you want it. We have "Police Public Call Box" on the back of the car. Facepalm

I, personally, love The Big Bang Theory (but only the earlier seasons), Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sherlock, Supernatural, fantasy novels, and I love steampunk. I've probably forgotten something though... I have BBT shirts, a mug, I have a Gryffindor beanie and shirt. Uh. Yeah. Shifty
I memorise entire lines of BBT for fun (and have recently nailed the rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock spiel), and am teaching myself both Old High and Circular Gallifreyan. I'm not very good, but hey, whatever.

I grew up as a geek I guess. Some of my earliest memories involve me playing Sonic on my sister’s old Master System. The Hobbit was the first real book I read by myself when I was eight. My cat who I’ve had for nearly fourteen years is named after a character in Star Trek: TNG. When I was eleven or so I started gaming properly and I’ve recently developed a mild obsession with the Wii U (so underrated, seriously). A few years after that, I got into comics and started going to conventions. Pretty much every item of clothing I own relates to something I’m a fan of… or its part of a cosplay. And I adore action figures Shifty I’m currently eyeing up a pretty cool Striker Eureka from Pacific Rim ahead of Christmas XD

I recently completed a degree and I guess I specialized in Shakespeare and the Gothic canon for it. I’m now contemplating whether I should go do another Bachelors in a Science subject – either Physics or Genetics or if I should go do a Masters in History because I miss studying it – I’m particularly fond of the history of medicine, revolutionary America, the establishment of modern policing/forensics, World War I and, World War II. I valso volunteer at museums which is pretty cool. I’ve also become increasingly interested in meteorology after I was on a plane that got struck by lightning a few years back.

I do find being geek or whatever people want to call it problematic though because as a feminist I find a lot of the media problematic and though I can enjoy it, it does rile me up somewhat XD

My gaming nerdiness is just pure childhood nostalgia and stubborness. My favorite video game ever is Super Mario Bros. 3. I refuse to pay N64 or anything past the PS2. The only XBox game I've played and enjoyed has been Crash Bandicoot. I do not like the way games are made now; I much prefer the simplicity of Sonic and Knuckles or Darkstone.

I'm definitely a Superheroes/TV Shows geek because I'm obsessed with way too much shows and my life is quickly becoming all things Marvel. It's getting out of hand but I'm just gonna let it happen anyway.

I would never classify myself as any one particular geek/nerd since I don't think I'm cool enough or good enough to be any of them. lmao Like, I love superheroes, but I haven't been able to read comics much. I watch the cartoons as much as possible and I watch the movies though. I also read up on them, so maybe that genre, but I don't know. I watch some of the tv shows of it, but I also judge it hardcore. I find knowledge super interesting and I like some geeky/nerdy humor, but I've never been able to get into Big Bang Theory. I like to read but have gotten lazy lately. I love video games, but I'm god awful at them and I don't own many of them. I can't even really be an anime/cartoon nerd since I only watch a couple of them obsessively and then don't watch any of the others.

So, I have no idea what I classify as.

„Geek culture“ as it's called is a really shitty and harmful thing in general, since it usually refers to a bunch of greasy white twentysomethings with Cheeto fingers and no tolerance for women. I'd be way more comfortable using the terms geek or nerd if that wasn't their connotation. (he says, wearing a „geek symphony“ shirt)

I think I classify as a TV show and video game geek/nerd. I love the video game culture, watch tons of esports, and me, my boyfriend and our best friends all spend our free time playing video games. I'm also a big fan of TBBT, Supernatural, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and all kinds of fun TV shows tehe

I'm a gaming nerd Twitch And I am soooo not ashamed. I play tons of online games and also have tons of personas online XD On the other hand, I'm very into aliens and the universe tehe I feed on movies like Interstellar and bash on movies like Gravity. My friends have admitted that I am a whole new level of geekiness in our group Twitch Don I'm quite flattered.

Also, don't forget Tolkien! I love the LoTR trilogy and Tolkien's universe. I collect the books in my spare time... and money.
