(Yeah, usually roleplays are based off of one simple plot. It's nice to have one that you know its going somewhere, not just... one specific place and then you fight to keep it going. And I really like how they'll have a friendship too. They're cute now, and I imagine even after they become close, they'll be even cuter... even if its hard to imagine them actually caring about each other and such xD)

The thought of having to be standing right next to a demon in order to feel its presence wasn't really one Leilah cared to entertain. It actually sounding nauseating... though she knew the presence would be extremely weak if she had to be that close to sense whether it was a demon or not. In any case, at least she wouldn't have to worry about the damned thing knowing she was an angel from miles away... if what Rennyn told her about churches was true, then a demon wouldn't be able to sense her presence either. And hopefully since it was a church, it would mask her even when she got close.

Still, this was going to be tricky if they found a demon... there were a lot of unknown variables that she didn't really care for. These variables were going through her head, actually, when the demon she was living with spoke his warning. Even with his playful expression, the tone of his voice -and even his words themselves- gave him away that he was being deadly serious.

"I had no plot to get you inside those churches," she dismissed his words. It was true enough... if she found a demon, he would come in anyway, so there was no need to try and lure him. Besides, she doubted if there was more than one other demon, with how demons seemed to be with sharing space with each other, so after they took care of their common enemy, she'd be fine to go after him again.

"I suppose you'll know if I find the demon. I won't leave to go get you, so you don't have to worry about tricks..." she thought for a moment, thought about her personality and what she'd do if she found a demon. "I guess you'll know because a lot of people will be running out of the church. If I find one, I'm attacking them. Churches are bound to have weapons of some sort, I suppose... the bigger ones that you mentioned at least should, so I'll just attack the demon." Suddenly, there was a smile on Leilah's face, one that was grim and stubborn and maybe a little happy. "If there's one thing I can do, it's fight."

(They are cute, in a silly way. I imagine when they come to the point of caring about each other, they won't show it in an obvious way. They would be far from admitting it, too. Subtle gestures and denied thoughts haha. You'd definitely know something is worrisome if one of them was obvious about it.)

Rennyn didn't dismiss the subject, but he decided to let it go for now. He was confident enough in his own ability to be able to get Leilah away from the church, onto at least equal ground. He loathed to admit he wasn't the most powerful demon among apprentices--he wasn't weak, far from it, but that meant nothing within his peers. But the one thing he had over anyone he'd faced was speed and strategy, and he would use that to his advantage if need be.

"Then I suppose we have a plan... sort of. As good as we're going to get, at least," he responded after a moment of silence. He was thinking this would probably be good for him, anyways. The more time he spent near high concentrations of holy aura, the better he got at being unaffected by Leilah's. He was sure he'd never be completely immune to strong ones, such as that in the church, but at least he'd learn how to be near it for longer periods of time. Maybe he'd learn a thing or two for any future earth visits. Hiding around in a church was a good idea, after all.

"We should sleep for now. I expect to leave pretty early in the morning, and as much as I hate to say, our bodies do need rest, especially if we make any.. discoveries." They didn't need to be half asleep fighting a demon. With that, he set his glass in the sink and decided to head for his mattress. It'd actually be kind of nice to get a good night's rest. He was even... looking forward to it. In this respect, he found himself understanding the human mind, just a little bit.

(really though xD I imagine they'd still be cute at that point though. And they'd make a pretty dangerous team, I'm sure, between Rennyn's wit and Leilah's fighting)

Leilah didn't bother to respond, but as Rennyn left the kitchen, she finished off her glass of water and then hopped down from the counter. She hadn't expected anything good to come of this night, but she was glad for the pleasant surprise. If nothing else, this gave her a goal to work towards, since living with a demon was doing nothing but creating a small immunity to his awful presence. Because despite her efforts, Della absolutely loved Rennyn. Well, at least he was as powerless as she was in any case.

Go get some sleep, Leilah. The demon's right about that much. She could worry about the next day when she got there. There was a good chance they wouldn't find any demons anyhow, since they were looking for a needle in a haystack. But if they did... well, she'd definitely want to be at full strength.

Besides, the thought of getting a little violent with a demon was rather appealing. She'd been unable to harm Rennyn so far, but that wouldn't protect any other demons...

So, with that happy thought, Leilah headed back to the bedroom. Originally there had only been one bed, but they had resolved that issue quickly. They slept in the same room, opposite energies that repelled the other, but at least it wasn't in the same bed. Rennyn already looked asleep, which left Leilah to go around and turn all the lights off, and crawl under the covers once she'd finished.

Tomorrow's going to be a good day, she thought right before she fell asleep.

(Yeah. I tried to make Rennyn a good counter for Leilah's power without being all "And he's just as strong and awesome and no one can defeat him raaaar" hahaha. He's just clever with average strength. More like a war strategist. Which I guess they will need someday, depending on how big their problems get.
Also, I apologize for all the ranting I'm doing in this post. I think it will speed along after this, though. Transitions are hard)

Rennyn wasn't sure when he'd fallen asleep, as he had grown accustom. At some point, he'd stopped being bothered by the angelic presence in the room. He didn't feel vulnerable turning consciousness off an entire night anymore, and the two of them had come to some strange truce as far as sleeping hours went. It was an easy enough time to do whatever they wanted to each other, but somehow that had become off limits.

Rennyn was happy with it, though. Even with an angel, it was nice to have a brief reprieve from all the tension. Even as a jokester, he still felt that constant stress and impatience of being with one's natural enemy for hours on end everyday. It would get to anyone.

So it was with a content yawn and a long stretch that he awoke the next morning. He looked over to Leilah's bed on the other side of the room and smiled, glad to be the first up if even just by a few minutes. The peaceful quiet of morning was his favorite, and he often found himself waking before the sun, despite preferring the calm of night.

He showered quickly, deciding that being quick was more important than purposefully hogging the bathroom to annoy Leilah, as he almost always tried to do. Today wasn't a day for leisurely pace, though. Today they would be quick and efficient.

He wiped his back off with the towel, flinching visibly as the material ran over the scars on his back where his wings should be. They looked like they'd been torn right off his body, honestly, and sometimes he felt phantom pains despite knowing they weren't gone for good.

Shuddering once, he decided to try and ignore the yearning to stretch out what wasn't there, and covered them up with a plain t-shirt, exiting the bathroom to let Leilah have a turn. He gave a wave to her, with no more greeting than that, and went off to make breakfast (and the newly discovered miracle known as coffee) for the two of them, in a rare show of consideration. If they were going to be together all day in places that Rennyn hated, he wasn't going to make it more stressful on himself. That was his excuse anyways. He didn't really think about doing it, he just did.

(Yeah, and with Leilah being more 'rush into situations with brute force' I think they make a good match. I mean, she could be clever if she wanted, but it just doesn't happen that way. So its nice that their personalities compliment that way xD And yeah, I hear what you're saying about transitions. I usually just skip to the next day because its generally easier)

Leilah woke with the sun, per usual, but didn't bother to move at first. Usually Rennyn was in the bathroom when she woke, and sure enough, she could hear the shower going. She expected it would probably be about half an hour before he would be out, since he seemed determined to make her life as much as a hell as was in his power. It was probably payback for getting them stuck in this situation, honestly... or maybe he was simply vindictive. She never pretended to know what went on in that demon's mind.

However though, she heard the bathroom door open within a few minutes, and she sat up in confusion as he waved upon passing her. Long strands flopped into her face, though she could still feel plenty of it sticking up around her head, and she headed into the bathroom without a word, her bare feeet making no sound as she padded across the floor.

It was still warm from the steam of his shower as she entered, but she ignored it as she closed the door, grabbed a towel, and stripped. Then it wasn't long before she was drying off and toweling her hair which was dripping everywhere. Then she wrapped the towel around herself and headed out back to the bedroom area.

She used to dress in the bathroom like Rennyn did, but that had become a pain, and she'd finally decided that she didn't care whether or not he saw her naked. He could gag and run if he happened to walk in the room, as she was sure he would. But she'd discovered that girls were expected to wear these things called bras, and they were difficult enough to get on... but almost impossible when in a room where steam clung to you. Hence why she now dressed in the bedroom area.

So, that done, laundry in their respectable baskets, she followed the scent of coffee, mildly surprised to find a cup waiting on her, and poured herself some. Leilah was honestly no good first thing in the morning... she rarely spoke, beyond the occasional grunt when asked a question, and until fed, was in a generally bad mood all around.

So Rennyn's comparitively cheery mood generally pissed her off, naturally. But today wasn't one of those worse days, and the coffee and early shower did help ease the beast. If he didn't speak before she ate, they would be in great shape.

(Yeah, I was thinking about it, but didn't really want to skip their morning interaction.. and I had a lot of poo to blather about haha)

Rennyn didn't turn when he sensed Leilah entering the kitchen. He continued to cook a simple breakfast of eggs--it was something he'd learned was very easy to do, though honestly he'd mostly been successful in his cooking endeavors thus far, first few times aside. He didn't bother asking what kind Leilah preferred, he didn't care and he was at least mostly certain she wouldn't care either. He scrambled them, adding salt here and there, before quickly putting half on a plate with toast that popped from their cheap toaster.

He set the plate in front of Leilah, again with no words, before returning to make his own plate. He kind of liked this silence, even though it was a little uncomfortable to be in this state around the angel, but he had already decided he would wait to start pissing her off until they were out and about, just so he didn't have to be the only one annoyed all day. Part of him hoped they would find no demon in any of the churches, just so he could have his petty revenge on her--even though it was he that suggested they go around looking for churches in the first place.

He sat down across from her at the fairly ugly, wooden two-person table that they called a dining table and ate his eggs and toast as they were. While he understood there were things people liked to put on their food--seasonings, spread, butter--Rennyn wasn't picky enough to care. A small amount of salt was fine.

"One time only deal," he muttered to Leilah between bites, "I'm in a good mood right now." And he was going to make the best of it, before he got grumpy later. Though a small part of him wanted to watch for Leilah's reaction to cooking for her, he kept his eyes trained on his own food. He didn't care at all what she thought of it. Not at all.

(haha oh well. They're entertaining, even first thing in the morning)

As Leilah picked up her mug, she took a long sip from the cup and then let out a small sigh. She headed back to the table to sit down and wait for Rennyn to finish making his breakfast so she could cook her own -the kitchen was small, and they had learned early on that both of them vying for the space at once was a bad idea. So she waited, letting her eyes close, and nursed the fresh mug of coffee.
Honestly, out of everything that humans had come up with, she personally thought that coffee was certainly one of the best.

Then she heard the sound of a plate being set on the table, and opened her eyes to find it was a plate of food in front of her. If it still wasn't so damned early, she might've been suspicious and asked Rennyn, pointedly mind you, if he poisoned it. Or if there was something he needed to tell her, because he was never nice... and he certainly didn't get out of the bathroom early and make her coffee and food.

But it still was early in the morning, so none of that crossed her extremely groggy mind. Instead she gave him a small nod, setting down the now half-full mug of coffee so that she could dig into the food. Right then she didn't really care about the taste, though he admittedly did cook well, but was more concerned with the fact that that food needed to be in her stomach.

She nearly groaned as he began to talk, which would definitely ruin an almost perfect morning, but upon listening, simply snorted instead. That was really enough said.

Her breakfast was finished in less than ten minutes, per usual, and she sat back as she finished, drinking down the rest of her coffee. "What a surprisingly good morning," she murmured not long after.

(Totally thought I responded hours ago XD I feel like this is poopy.. I just want to shove them out the door haha)

Rennyn held back a snort of amusement, and had to bite his tongue to keep from a witty retort. But hearing her words really, really made it tempting.

He finished off the eggs rather quickly, and didn't take his time with the coffee either, despite the burn on his tongue and the back of his throat. Somehow, even though it didn't feel pleasant, the heat was comforting. As much as he had wanted to take his time, his body demanded for it, and before he even knew it, breakfast was gone. He debated a moment at least making another cup of coffee, but decided against it. They shouldn't be wasting time, especially on human addictions.

"Right," he began, walking out of the kitchen to retrieve his boots, "so where would you like to start? East? West? There's not really a "best way" so it doesn't matter which direction." He double tied his laces as he spoke, then stood up with renewed energy, a slight hop as he was upright. He then moved to get the keys. Honestly, it didn't matter if they kept their door locked or not--there was nothing in the house to steal, but people had this bad habit of prying into other peoples' business and Rennyn really didn't like that. He'd just lock the door and avoid the looks.

"We'll be keeping up a pretty fast pace today, too. So try to keep up."

(Haha xD And don't worry; the post is great! I don't think you could make a bad post for Rennyn Arms)

At least she was able to get a few minutes in before Rennyn started moving around. Leilah was working on washing her breakfast dishes -it was easier to do this rather than wait until later so the two could yell at each other about whose turn it was- when Rennyn leaped into action. He didn't stop moving at all as he spoke, getting shoes and putting them on. She simply finished what she was doing before she bothered to even reply.

"I don't care where we start," she told him as she went to retrieve her own shoes. Being the lazy sort though, she took them off tied and put them on still tied, until the laces became loose enough that she felt she should retie them. So she didn't bother to sit down and undo and redo laces, but just slipped the shoes on instead. "Let's just get on the street and start walking," she suggested. "We can make a full circle back to here. The big churches will be on obvious streets so we won't have any problem finding them. We may have to look for the little churches though." That just seemed to be common sense to her.

Leilah was wearing a pair of jeans and tennis shoes, as well as a comfortable tank-top with roses on it that Della had practically forced on her a little bit ago when she had decided that only t-shirts were out of the question for her. She had put her wet hair up in a simple ponytail behind her head after getting out of the shower so it wouldn't get in her way, and she grabbed a dark jacket before Rennyn could shove her out of the door, figuring she would need it with the way the air was starting to get cooler. She put it on as she made her way down the stairs, managing to get her arm through right as they got outside.

It was definitely pretty cool out there, and she was glad she'd thought to grab the jacket. "Let's go."

(I'm pretty sure I could XD I have some pretty unintelligent days)

When Leilah finally got a move on, Rennyn closed the door firmly behind her and locked it with a bit of animosity, as if doing so just to spite their neighbors. Which was silly, but Rennyn never claimed he wasn't. The chill in the air, though completely contrary to his earlier positive feelings towards heat, was actually somehow relaxing, though he still shuddered once as it hit him. He pulled his hood over his head--something thin but decently warm, and black as befit his nature but that allowed to him continue his anonymity without too much suspicion. He wasn't sure how often teens stood around outside of churches on school days, but he was sure that it wasn't common, so he hoped that the hood would obscure his body's apparent age.

He steered them left after they climbed down the stairs to the sidewalk below, and trailed in whatever direction pulled him. He'd never really thought about it, but now that he was looking for it he could somewhat feel the very faintest hint of holy aura from the bigger churches in the area. He was starting to see why he often unconsciously chose to move in certain ways and directions when he went for walks around the city, but this time he was walking directly towards the foul feeling.

As the two walked in silence, he wasn't really sure if he should be talking or not, or what they should be talking about if they did. It was unlike Rennyn to be lost for things to talk about, but for some reason this just felt very different. It was funny, even.

What was even more funny, though, was how close they actually lived to a few churches. Small ones though they may be, he just hadn't noticed them before--or chose to ignore, who could be sure? But within he could sense no out of place presences, so he just moved on.

Not liking the quiet, he decided to speak, "Pretty great weather, for a day of religious tourism." Lame. But still somehow not out of character for Rennyn, so he shrugged his shoulders at the out-of-placeness of it.

(Haha don't we all though? =^-^=)

As they started down a random street, Leilah allowed Rennyn to take the lead. She figured if anyone would be able to lead them directly to all the churches, it would be him. Being a demon, he was particularly sensitive to any holy aura whereas she was very used to the feeling. On the flip side, as long as the church wasn't too big, she'd immediately be able to tell if a demon was lurking about -hopefully, considering Rennyn was less than five feet away.

They'd passed a couple of small, neighborhood churches, Leilah walking along boredly with her hands shoved in her pockets, when Rennyn decided to speak. An indelicate snort escaped her as she shook her head at him. "What'd you expect? Great looming clouds and ominous thunder? Maybe a bolt of lightning or two?"

A light breeze picked up and brushed by them, causing some leaves to rain down over their heads. Down the street, a huge building loomed on the opposite side of the street. It was large and made mostly of glass. In the front, the glass was shaped like a cross, and it was painted a multitude of different colors. The building itself looked extremely new, though the cemetery behind it was much older. A stone angel with a sword sat on a dome in the front with a few scattered gargoyles guarding the front.

Even Leilah could feel the palpable energy coming from the building, and she raised her eyebrows as she took in its appearance. "Think someone would stop me if I tried to get that sword from the angel up top?" she asked, mostly joking but still partially serious.

Then they were directly across from the church, and she gave Rennyn a brief look. "Well, I suppose you should stay here while I go in," she said to him, giving a small stretch real quick. "I'll be back out in a bit if I don't find anything. Since it's the middle of the week, I don't figure a lot of people will be in there... so it'll take me a bit longer to come back out... probably dragging an unconscious demon behind me." Honestly, she wasn't sure what exactly she was going to do. She figured she'd just wing it. Use whatever was handy if she came across a demon.

    What could go wrong?

(Pardon me for stalking, you're from MS? I used to live there when I was a kid XD)

Rennyn rolled his eyes at Leilah's sarcastic reply to the weather, though he felt a small pang of satisfaction at how much he'd rubbed off on her in the short time they'd been together. Sure, she'd been snarky from the moment they'd met, but her wit was getting a bit more impressive. Rennyn's pride wouldn't let him see that as anyone's influence but his own.

As a large building entered their field of vision, incapable of being anymore obvious save for maybe large colorful streamers saying CHURCH CHURCH CHURCH across the front, Leilah joked about the angel's sword. Honestly, he'd pay a lot of human money to see Leilah climbing awkwardly up the side of the building for a stone sword that would break within moments against a real demon. In fact, he voiced this aloud, omitting only the drawback for such an action. The closer the building came, however, the less he felt like joking. And so, as they were just about upon it, his expression had soured noticeably.

"Yeah yeah," he replied as Leilah spoke, "Hurry it up in there. I'll case the surrounding and around back," he continued, marching off rather irritated. If she decided to take her sweet time, then they were going to have a really torturous day--because there was no way Rennyn was enduring this alone.

(Yeup xD lived here my whole life. And really? Where did you live, if you don't mind me asking? ^_^")

Leilah, naturally, felt fine. Actually, she felt more than fine, and the church kind of put this tiny little warm glow in the pit of her stomach. It was a very strange feeling, but still nice. Rennyn, however, was obviously affected in a completely different sort of fashion. He looked downright miserable, and they were only standing on the sidewalk in front of the church.

She didn't actually bother replying to him as he marched off, obviously in a bad mood, and she really couldn't help but want to laugh at how the guy who pretended to be an angel constantly couldn't stand to even be near a church. An idea revolving around that actually formed in her head, but it would have to wait until later, so she pushed it to the back of her mind as she walked in the church.

It took Leilah almost half an hour to thoroughly search everywhere because the church was so big and actually somewhat confusing in places where she wasn't supposed to be but had ventured into anyway. At least she could say for certain that there were no demons hiding out in the church, which is what she told Rennyn when she finally came out and found him. He seemed to be in a considerably worse mood than the one she'd left him in -she didn't think there was an end honestly- and she briefly wondered if he would hiss at her if she got too close at this point.

    It seemed plausible.

(Just outside of Meridian, in a little community. It.. appeared nice. It was kind of a toxic place for my family though so we tend to avoid Mississippi in general now.)

As Leilah went off to do her part, Rennyn did as he'd said he would and walked around the outside of the building. Some of the surrounding buildings were so close he often found himself right up next to the church anyways--he might as well have been inside with Leilah at some points. This only served to worsen his mood, and when he entered a rather dark alley just one building away from their current objective (perfect stalking ground for dark intentions) he almost felt bad for the drug addict that spotted him.

It was uneventful, for Rennyn. The man didn't feel like being cooperative, as it turned out. And while Rennyn got to vent some of his frustration on the rather filthy looking human, he'd gotten no information on any possible demon sightings. In fact, his unwilling interviewee ended up running off down the street, speaking only words the Lord's followers seemed.. repulsed at hearing. It was amusing for a moment, but then Rennyn remembered where he was and how he'd ultimately failed in his only duty.

Oh well. Soon afterwards Leilah exited the foul place and met back up with him--just as empty-handed as he was. He decided to neglect talking about the drug addict, stating simply "no signs outside either" before the two moved on to the next location.

It remained like that on and off all day--with Leilah going inside the larger churches and coming back at her own pace, and Rennyn intimidating drug-addicts and gangsters, unintentionally making the walk to Sunday mass a much safer endeavor.

"I swear to Lucifer I will kill the next asshole that tries to steal my hard earned money in a dark alleyway," Rennyn commented as they approached another large church, trying to insert his usual playful banter into the conversation--though it may have sounded a little constipated. He ignored the obvious sound of his struggles and kept up his appearance of strong will--he kept his motivation up picturing Leilah in all of the more cliché demon haunts and really really hoped they would get there someday.

    He could dream, right?

(Oh, yeah... I guess I can understand that. Mississippi can definitely be a difficult place to live in)

"Did you actually just swear to Lucifer?" Leilah asked him with a raised eyebrow as they approached the next church. Sure, Rennyn was a demon and his dark, disgusting aura never let her forget that fact, but swearing to Lucifer? Even amongst demons, she hadn't known anyone actually did that... it just sounded weird and wrong, and she shook her head with a sigh.

By this time, the sky was starting to turn shades of gold as the sun approached the tree line. This was going to be their last stop for the day before they'd have to head back, and so far there had been absolutely nothing. There wasn't even a hint of any demonic presence aside from Rennyn's anywhere, and even Leilah's mood was starting to sour. Some archangel she was turning out to be...

"I'll be back," she muttered and headed for the church. She wasn't really sure what all Rennyn did while she was in there, and was pretty sure that she really didn't want to know. She didn't ask, he didn't say, and they were both generally happy. She pushed those thoughts back though as she entered the church and started to poke around, looking for demons. She'd figured out earlier in the day not to be obvious that she was actually searching the church -because there was usually at least one person hanging around- but it also made things go somewhat slower because she had to be careful. Apparently looking around a church was 'untrustworthy', though she really didn't see the harm in it.

And even though she'd been told ahead of time that she probably wouldn't notice the demon unless she was standing right next to it, she honestly hadn't expected to literally run right into one. But it somehow happened when she decided to turn around and look in a different area of the church. Her whole body went stiff at the aura of the demon, but she quickly regained her equilibrium and took a nice step back as she looked up at the demon... who was dressed in priest's robes. That was... great.

"I'm so sorry! I didn't know anyone was behind me!" Well, here was hoping she wasn't a bad actor, at least, and that the demon hadn't noticed she was an angel.

(Wanna write for the demon? Since Rennyn isn't around xD)

    (LOL PRIEST-DEMON.
    Sure~ hahah)

Today was a slow day, for such a large church. The sun was already going down, only three had come in for confessions and a few stragglers for periodic prayer. The use behind it all was lost on Shay. They didn't understand that prayer and confession would do no good. No God would come to save them in the end, and while it may lighten their soul, they were still in danger. Obviously, if a demon could enter their church so easily, make such a permanent home.

He'd been there maybe a month. He'd become a constant fixture, and though the weight of its holy aura had taken its toll on him, being there every day made it tolerable. The others had questioned his fatigue on occasion, but he'd gotten so used to the cover up by now that they no longer saw it in him. He had become a master of the game.

However, so used to the aura was he that he didn't notice it at first. In fact, it took him an embarrassingly long time. She'd come in, walked around--he watched her at first, wondering what she had in mind. Was she looking for a priest? A lost lamb, come to confess her sins or seek advice? There was some goal in her search, and so he approached her to find out. Perhaps he'd been too silent, for she turned suddenly and ran directly into him. Her apologies were instant, but there was something in her eyes that said she'd found what she was looking for.

"Can I help you, child?" he asked, but as she took a step back he felt it. It was brief, almost undetectable in this place that was so masking of any other auras that if it hadn't been for his more advanced detection skills, he'd have not noticed. At first he worried. They'd found him in the one place angels never went, never searched. How had she known? But after looking upon her for longer, he recognized it. She was only barely angel at this moment. Her body was flesh, human-like. She was not here at full power. Why did she dare enter such a place? By mistake?

He hoped she couldn't tell, in her weak state, who he was. But Shay just couldn't keep the small, predatory grin on his face. An angel. That was something he couldn't pass up.

"You seem to be looking for something," he said.

    x-x-x

Outside, Rennyn sat on the sidewalk, two men on either side of him. One seemed nervous, the other relaxed--likely from whatever drugs he'd consumed. The nervous one leaned away from Rennyn, but the somewhat exhausted demon pulled him back, throwing an arm over the fragile human whose instincts were quite spot on. He could somehow feel it, the demonic energy in Rennyn, and the aggravation he was feeling right now.

It'd been a few minutes now since Leilah went in. Something felt different this time, but he had no reason to believe anything actually was. She'd not sent any signals, though how she would if she did was beyond Rennyn, and so he settled in with the two drug addicts. They looked a strange picture, sitting in front of a church's steps, an innocent looking teen leaning buddy-buddy on an unwilling drug-abused friend. The other friend, now collapsing backward in a haze.

A few more minutes passed. Where was Leilah? He sighed. He really didn't want to go in.

Maybe just a few more minutes then.

(I just couldn't pass it up lmfao it just.. seemed like the sort of thing a demon might use to disguise himself)

Leilah was a terrible liar by nature. She'd been taught that she should never lie at first, and later that in certain occasions, it was needed and therefore would be forgiven. Situations such as those when she might get mixed up with a demon. Lying was a little like swallowing cough medicine that left a bitter aftertaste that stuck around forever. It had been required of her before though, such as when she'd first met Rennyn, and those lies didn't seem so bad any longer somehow. That didn't mean she was any more confident in her abilities now though.

She really had attempted to be discreet, but poking around the way she had been, she supposed it was inevitable that someone would notice. She just wasn't sure whether or not to feel lucky that it happened to be the demon they were looking for. Unfortunately, he also seemed to be pretty smart, so she had to be careful. She didn't think just attacking him would be good either, especially since she didn't have a weapon.

Well, no matter how badly the situation had turned out last time she'd just decided to rush into something without thinking, that seemed to be her only option at this point. Hopefully this time she wouldn't end up with another demonic roommate.

"Sorry for poking around! I'm just.. uhh... on a scavenger hunt. I think I'm supposed to be looking in here for one of the objects, but I didn't want to bother anyone..." It was as good an excuse as any and better than telling the truth at least. "It's um... some sort of bell. I can't really remember how to describe it, but I know I'd recognize it if I saw it." Maybe she'd find some sort of weapon if she kept wandering around... the demon had to be weakened because of the church, but she wasn't exactly at her best either.

Still, she hoped things didn't escalate to a duel. She couldn't imagine that wrestling with one of the priests would look good to anyone around her. If nothing else, she just needed to get out, report to Rennyn that she'd found their demon, and they could come back better prepared.

(Inappropriate jokes are inappropriate. But.. Rennyn.. he can't help himself! You know this.
Also, I tried to leave a small gap for Leilah to have her reactions and interaction with the demon in your reply, I kind of took a little control there at the end with Rennyn just so she could get out. Sorry about that~)

Shay moved around beside her, making sure not to touch her with his hands so she didn't startle or become aggressive, but motioning towards the back of the large church. The angel was acting a bit strange, so he knew something was off, be he was not intimidated by her in the least, even given their location, and so he worried not about any potential traps she may be planning to spring.

"I'm sure I know exactly what you are looking for," he started, attempting to guide her back, "we have a small bell that is very likely what you are looking for. We did not know if it belonged to the scavenger hunt or not, so we left it near the back, if you'd like to take a look." She looked behind her quickly at the door, and Shay wondered if there wasn't another one waiting. But again, even two weak angels could not take him, he was so certain. And if he could keep them separated, then all the better. He'd be praised for his catch. The lieutenant's position was his.. this is exactly what he needed. Originally, he never thought of such a thing, he'd only wanted his fill of human souls... but this. This brought the fire to his determination.

Rennyn was not known for patience, but he'd let the minutes drag on. Unfortunately, with this being their last stop of the day, Rennyn was even more impatient than usual.

Angrily, he shoved the nervous druggy as he stood up, who quivered and scrambled off in response. Leilah was either having a laugh, or in some shit. Both scenarios pissed Rennyn off, and so he stormed up the steps towards the door, throwing them open with maybe a little too much force. Within, he saw and interesting picture, and almost stumbled in the irony of it.

Before him, a priest's arm hovered dangerously over Leilah's shoulder, as if he intended to touch her but he dared not do it. Rennyn's eyebrows furrowed at the scene, walking in a little more casually even though he'd already garnered their attention.

"Hey Father, isn't this a little funny? I thought priests liked young men, not adult women. Aren't I more your type?" he questioned, snarky tone not subtle in the least as he approached the duo.

No demon was taking his prey. Leilah was Rennyn's angel, and he'd be damned if he let anyone, even a more experience demon take her away after he'd so rightly claimed her. He'd spent way too much time with her to just give her up.

(haha, it's no problem at all! It happens in roleplays sometimes, especially when the replies are like how we do ours! And I laughed so hard at Rennyn xD that ending also might've been kind of sweet if he wasn't talking about basically stealing her soul ^_^)

Considering that Leilah was almost entirely certain that there was absolutely no scavenger hunt, not to mention with how late it is, she couldn't imagine very many kids coming to check everything out, she was a bit worried about what the demon thought he was going to lead her to, but she made sure to keep her guard up and hope he would give her a chance to at least do something.

"Sure! That'd be great!" she put forward as much false enthusiasm as she could muster, and hardly took a single step before the doors kind of... exploded inward. They didn't quite hit the walls, but it was close, and it was pretty loud. And sure enough, it was Rennyn, basically providing the distraction she needed.

Leilah ducked away from the demon and let her training take over. She wasn't as strong or agile as she normally would've been, but that didn't necessarily mean she was weak -at least, by human standards. Taking advantage of the demon's momentary surprise, she managed to catch him off guard as she swept his feet out from under him -appearances be damned!- and then followed it by making sure that he hit the floor. "Rennyn, get a weapon, now," she said as she dug her knee into the demons spine and wrenched his arms behind his back in what should be a pretty painful angle, even without moving. She hoped it would be enough of a deterrent to buy them some time.

Maybe the smarter thing would've been to retreat for the moment... but she was almost certain he'd figured out that she wasn't human. If they left, he could just as easily leave as well, and then they'd have to waste more pain-in-the-ass days trying to find him again and maybe not even being able to. He could easily just find another town to inhabit that they weren't in. Or try to hunt them down. She didn't know, and didn't care because she didn't plan on letting him get away.

(XD It's Rennyn's way of being sweet. Possessiveness hahah)

Rennyn scoffed as he was before them now. The demon didn't look to be struggling for the time being, he even winced as Leilah's knee dug into his spine. Rennyn knew it was probably the demon's ego that kept him calm and still, even in such a situation. He would never believe he was defeated, even in the face of a weapon.

The younger demon threw his hands out and gestured around him, "Yes. Let me just go get that church machete they hide in the back room for demonic priest invasions. Or perhaps one of those vulgar old-time wooden stakes!" He knew he was going to have a hard time not being sarcastic after the day's work, but really it didn't matter. As long as the two could still cooperate it would work out in the end, he was fairly certain--no matter how much the two didn't get along, though Rennyn loathed to admit it even to himself, they complemented each other's strengths and weaknesses.

"Let's get him in the back first, anyone who walks through that door won't appreciate that you're attacking a helpless priest," he reasoned, bending over to help Leilah with the move. He had to keep watch on the demon's movements, to make sure he wasn't planning a counter. He calculated the possibilities, ready for them if he decided to use any.

"We can consider using something to bind him instead, for now. No way we'll get away with doing anything to him here. And if we did it'd be all over the news, which I'm pretty sure neither of us can afford."
