I've been thinking about it for awhile and I thought I would suggest this here to see what you are thinking. Well, here's the plan.

When I log in while I use my phone all my comments get posted double (triple and sometimes even more). I would like to be able to delete my double comments on someone's story or wherever it is that I have commented.

The same goes for other commenting on my stuff. Let's say I want to re-write and old story, so I take down all the chapters and start re-posting as I edit and write the new version. I would want to be able to delete the old comments that have to do with the old version. Now, you are going to say, why don't you just delete everything and start anew. That's because I have linked some friends that don't get online that oftern (hardly lately) and the link will show as broken.

There are also the comments which from which some people get offended and would like to take them off from their writings and what not.

What I'm asking is for each writer/user to be able to delete their comments and other people's comments.

I know for sure that I would like to do that. Also, that's my own personal opinion.

What's your opinion on that, mibbian people?

Why isn't this already a thing? Like, seriously.

As a writer, I'd love to be able to delete double comments. I mean, I when a comment is quadruple posted by accident I'm not irritated or anything because I totally get that it was an accident, but I somehow feel like I'm cheating by having a higher comment count than what actually exists, you know?

As a commenter, I feel just as terrible when I double or triple comment. Why can't I delete my mistake? At the very least, deleting the duplicate will fix the problem of someone getting super excited seeing that their story has four new comments, even though it's really all one comment. /:

I agree with this. Especially if a spammer gets to spamming some stories, or if the comment is really hateful. I think as an author we should be able to have the right to delete it. Shifty So, I support this idea.

I agree with this. They're our comments, so it's our right to delete them if we want to. Same with other people posting hateful things on one of your stories - the owner of the story should have the right to delete them. This needs to be done, the sooner the better.

Brilliant idea... I'm sick of being stuck with double or even triple comments that are all the same.

I have been saying this since I started here almost three years ago. It's very disappointing when you see an alert saying you have three new comments and really it's one comment that was accidently triple posted. And not to mention people who are trolls and just say hurtful things, who wants that? And I feel guilty when I double or triple post, cause the comment count is technically correct. And while this might sound shallow of me when I see something has a decent amount of comments that sways me to look into whatever it is I'm reading.

But I totally agree, we should have the ability to delete comments on stories, blogs, articles, poems or whatever.

Yes! Bring this on! I've been victim to the double posting myself [on and off story comments] and this would seriously help everyone out big time!

I agree with this. ^^ I think also this should apply to the forums - when you accidentally post something twice, as long as it's your post - you can delete it, or the forum creator can. >3< I don't know how many times in the RP forums my reply has gone in twice.

I'm on board with this as well! It would be nice to be able to delete our own comments or comments on our stuff, threads included Clap

I'm so glad to hear someone else say this! I can't stand it when I accidentally double comment and I can't delete it. Same with offensive comments. I support this idea 100%

I think the staff need this ability, but I'm not so sure about regular users because I feel as though there will be misuse of it. The main thing I'm concerned about are offensive comments that people would just delete instead of reporting. The users who left those insulting comments need to be dealt with by a staff member so they don't continue to break site rules and continue to offend people.

I think the staff would benefit greatly from having the ability - they could delete comments from spammers, perhaps they could help out with the irritating duplicate posts, and they could even deal with the bashing comments (such as those on blogs).

A side note about the ability to delete forum posts - I doubt that this would happen. That's because there's the possibility that users would post a bashing comment and then delete it soon after, and then they wouldn't have to deal with the consequences of breaking site rules. What happens now is that they can edit it out of their post, but Dujo can still see the original post's content. If people (other than the board mods/admins) could delete their posts, then Dujo wouldn't be able to see it anymore.

There are many people who don't even use reporting and just ignore the offensive comments. If they want to report a comment instead of deleting it, they will still be able to contact the stuff members about it. If they want to delete double, triple and so on comments, they will be able to delete them.

I completely agree. As a writer, I get really excited when I see I've got say 6 new comments, for example, then I check them just to find that it's really only 2, but 1 of them has been duplicated like 5 times by accident. I totally get that it's an accident and unintended, but it disappoints me. I'd rather have less comments because there's no duplicates than more because of accidental triple posting or something.
And as a commenter, my phone sometimes jams when I'm using it when I can't get on my laptop, such as when I'm in college. I post a comment, and sometimes my phone gives up and then when it works again, the page has an error message on it, so I'll refresh it, and it'll end up posting duplicates of my comment and it frustrates me.
So yeah. I completely support this idea.

I think it would be nice to have, but I have to agree with Nicole on the fact that some users would most likely abuse this feature (such as deleting comments that make them look bad, or deleting story/blog comments that don't count as bashing simply because they disagree with what they say). But none the less, I feel like it would be beneficial to have, even if only admins had the ability to use it.

I think that would make it work. Or even story editors able to delete story comments, article editors article comments, etc., with the admin being able to delete comments from all sections. That way if you double, triple or comment five times on one story accidentally you could easily message a story editor to delete it for you instead of the admin being bombarded extra with requests to delete comments.
