I do like this idea. I have always wished I could delete comments on my stories instead of having to restart the whole story from scratch again. That's always such a hassle for me. However, I do agree about people abusing these feature and deleting comments that are bashing or spammy or something like that. :/

Also, something else that could be a problem is if we let the admins and story editors or whatever do this... is the fact that said staff person may or may not be on at the time. I mean, I do know you can just start the story from scratch, but it's always a hassle. D:

What I'm trying to say is... maybe this could be moderated first to see how we do with this feature. If people start abusing it and stuff like that, then yes... feel free to stop the feature for us members. Couldn't there also be a way to know if a comment has been deleted, even though it may not show what the comment had said to staff members?

Staff, unless we're away, generally have to check Mibba at least once a day. Most of us come on several times a day just to check our messages, alerts and the staff forum just in case something important has been said. So if someone would come onto Mibba and see a message from a user asking them to delete some comments, they'd be able to tell the user whether they can do it now or later, and if needed asap then would be able to pass it along to another staff member who is online and can do it.

There would really be no use of being able to see if a comment has been deleted but not the content of that comment. If someone messages an admin with a link to a comment that is bashing, the admin gets online and checks out the comment only to see that it's no longer there with a message that says it's deleted but can't see the content, then the user who deleted their comment would get away with bashing because the admin can't believe the user who messaged them and not the user in question unless there is proof in the comment itself. Which would mean that some users would be able to get away with bashing and once they get away with it once, they'd be more likely to do it again.

What if they deleted the comments after informing the editors or the admins? Meaning they will have read the contents of the comments.

You're not always guaranteed that they'll get the chance to read it, though. Sometimes editors are away due to personal issues and if it's sent to that person and then the comment is deleted, then we'd end up with the same problem -- especially seeing as a lot of the staff are from different time zones; I come on in the morning UK time, which is usually evening AUS time and middle-of-the-night in most US time zones. If someone messages me then leaves it an hour or so, I might not get the chance to see the comment until after they've deleted it. Unless you're talking about messaging off to get confirmation from the editor and when they reply, you could delete it but in that respect, I'd just see it being easier (and more effective for keeping the bashing rules) having the site staff being able to delete comments as if you're having to message a mod anyway, they'll likely be able to get online and do it right away anyway.

Even if only editors could delete comments that would be great. There's offensive comments people got banned for still on my stories because they can't be removed despite the fact that they're against the rules.

I got a new sort of idea that has to do with this. Let's say the author of said story wants to delete a few comments, there should be a button that says ''hide''. Now the content of the comment is hidden from all but the story mods can see it and delete the comments that are hidden or report them if there is a reason to report them.

I love this. I get really annoyed at myself and at others when comments double. Like, I don't want to leave someone false hope that they got three comments because Mibba lagged to load, and I also don't want the spam of the same comment if a user fails to check and edit on my stories/poems/blogs because that's just annoying.
