How the Show Works
I know I said I would give you a little more info, so here’s what I had in mind
Auditions
Each contestant goes to an audition in several major cities and then go home. Two weeks later the host comes and personally informs those who’ve made it (probably around fifty people) that they are going to the blind auditions. (This might be a good starting point to introduce our characters personalities and such.) The contestants are then flown to Sydney where they are sent onstage to sing.
All four boys are sitting in chairs with their backs turned while the contestants sing, so they have no idea what they look like or how old they are. They are only going solely off their voice and probably the crowd reactions, like if someone whistles they might assume the person is attractive. When they hear a singer they want on their team they hit a button and turn around so the singer knows that judge has selected them. Once the singer is done both the judges try and persuade the person to be on their team (if more than one judge turns) and the contestant chooses who they want.
The Weekly Eliminations
Each week all five contestants from one team must perform a solo piece of their choosing. The judge will have coached them with the song over the week, helping them out with notes and tone and such. So, as each contestant performs they get feedback from all four judges, and after all five members of one team have sang the judge will then decide which of the singers is going home. For this the judges will be able to see their contestants and judge their stage presence and their ability to perform under pressure and such. This will go on and on every week until each judge only had one contestant.
All judges’ teams compete in the eliminations. So it might be Team Michael, Then Team Luke, etc. but they ALL go in that one night.
When there are only two people left on each judge’s teams those two will sing a duet, and then both sing an individual song and then the Judge makes the final decision to decide the Last Singer Standing
The Last Singer Standing
Once each judge has only one person on their team they are given one month to train them. In this time they will spend every single day coaching their contestant so they will win. This time period will also show the different boys personalities, like how Calum might make his team mate practice morning noon and night while Ashton might take his team mate out for a vacation day or something. Anywho, the judges move into the same room as their team mate in this month, which will cause some serious drama I’m sure, to bring them closer together. All this training and practice leads us up to the last half of the show.
The Last Half
Once the judge’s month with their contestants ends they go back for the second half of the show. There they sing a duet (or two) every week, one they have been training for in advance. Once all five teams have performed the audience then decides which team will go home that week and which teams will be one step closer to the finale.
The Finale
For the finale all teams come back and perform one big number, then all the contestants and all the judges, then the two final teams have one last duet together. Then they might have the other three teams sing one last time as filler as the audience votes for their favorite of the two remaining. Whichever team has the most votes will win the entire show
The Prize
The final winner becomes 5 SOS’s opening act for their new tour and gets a debut album, the other four finalists also get an album and all five are signed to Capitol Records (which is sponsoring the show to find new talent)
Voting
So guys, I have kind of a crazy idea for this, so bear with me. I was thinking that for voting we could have the readers voice their opinions, either by comments or some kind of a survey website, so it becomes kind of audience interactive? If you guys aren’t alright with this please tell me now, I don’t want anyone to secretly despise this and not tell me. Otherwise we can just decide among ourselves or draw numbers or use a randomizer or something.
Housing Situation
All the contestants and judges live in the same house, with the teams all living in the same room except the judge. This will cause major drama, (especially since all the housing excursions are recorded) which is what I want all the time what is really fun to write. Each team has their own sort of music room/ practice space type thing, along with a pool, all of which is in a lovely mansion
A Typical Week
Day One, coaches meet with their teams to give feedback for the previous performance, then take each person and discuss one on one what song they want to work on
Day Two, practice
Day Three, practice
Day Four, practice
Day Five, Performance for each team, elimination for each team
(How the coach runs their practices probably depends more on their personality. For example, Ashton might try and practice with everyone the first day but ends up getting nothing accomplished, so the second day he tries to just focus on two or three, but ends up staying with just one the whole time, so then he tries to work with the other four all in the last day and doesn’t really get anything accomplished again, does that make sense?)
