As I'm sure many are aware, GIFs have become a huge thing on the internet. I've recently become really into making my own GIFs. With this, I've come to wonder if I should watermark my GIFs like I do my banners for credit purposes.
So I'm taking it up with you, Mibbians. So, I want to know:
1. Do you think people who make GIFs have a right to take credit for it? Do you think GIFs infringe on the copyrights of those who created the videos?
I have mixed feelings about it. Either way, I'll continue to make them until someone steps in and says I can't anymore. I think as long as I'm not making people pay to use my GIFs, it shouldn't be a problem.
2. Does it bother you when people add a watermark to their GIFs? Based on the appearance, not the legality of it.
I tend to want to credit myself for the work I'm distributing online for others to use, but I've seen instances of people being bothered by even a small watermark in the corner and others of people not being bothered by it. It bothers me when the watermark is across the whole picture, even if it's light, but I don't mind it if it's small and not that noticeable.
