Aubree smiled. "Alright." She said. She knew that she should probably head up closer to New York, just in case this lead didn't end up being a complete bust like all the other ones in the past, but maybe she needed to take a step back from all of that for the time being. Maybe she needed a break. And maybe this was the perfect opportunity for that. "There are so many great ones." She hadn't been to all of them, she'd only started traveling a couple of years ago after college, but she had been to a few when she went on vacation with friends back in high school, and she really couldn't pick just one.
Steve smiled. "That's good to know." He chuckled softly, seeing the blush that had formed on her cheeks. He was glad that he wasn't the only one who was sort of terrible with this whole thing. He'd never been good at talking to women, and after nearly seventy years of no human contact at all, he felt as though he was just as bad, and sometimes even worse, than he used to be. Her later words sort of made him really relieved. So this was a date. "Have you ever heard of Captain America?" He asked her curiously, wanting to figure out if she knew anything at all.

Evelyn's face was pink, she was never really good with talking to men, they either expected too much or too little. Evelyn stared at Steve and nodded "yeah I've heard some things about him, is that who you are?" She asked with a smile on her face. He had this bright blue eyes and she couldn't look away, she didn't want to be creepy her face grew pink again. Evelyn wasn't sure when the date would be over but she didn't want it to end. Even if he was a superhero or whoever he was, didn't change the fact that she enjoyed his company and wanted to know more about him.

James smiled at Aubree "so you've been to quite a few huh? How about Six Flags or something along those lines" James maybe have been frozen for 70 years but he caught up quick. "So do you like swimming or any sports for that matter?" He was trying to keep the conversation going without thinking about New York. James knew he would have to go back eventually bit right now he was going to focus on this "break". He hadn't remembered sports, of course his mind was played like silly putty so he wasn't sure what was what anymore.

"I guess you could say that." Aubree said. "I used to go to different ones all the time when I was little. My parents used to take me every year the weekend after school let out." It kind of surprised her that she was talking about her parents around him. Normally it was a subject that she avoided altogether, but she hadn't even thought twice about mentioning them. It was strange. "I played lacrosse in middle school and high school. I didn't stick with it in college though. I liked it, but I didn't love it, I guess."
Steve nodded. "Yeah. So how much do you know about me then?" He asked. He didn't want to tell her things that she already knew. He didn't know if that would get boring for her or not. Granted, he doubted that this sort of a conversation was one that she'd had with other guys before. He also didn't want to make this weird for her. She seemed okay with it all so far, but all he'd really done was tell her who he was. That was it. It wasn't really much of anything at all.

Bucky was listening carefully taking all she said in, he was interested in this girl. She was different, outgoing and strong lets not forget beautiful. He wanted to know everything about her without him coming off as creepy or weird. "I don't think I've played lacrosse I was more of a football or baseball kind of guy" and he was he would try to get his old friend to get him to play with him. James stared at her for a moment "so is that a yes on the theme park adventure then?" He asked grinning. "Let's call it a date" he winked.

Evelyn smiled and nodded at Steve "I've heard things from my parents and my grandmother who had this insanely crush on you" she giggled. Evelyn bit her lip and smiled widely at him "you look great for 95 by the eat" she said in a teasing tone. He really did and she had this attraction to him and this feeling that she wanted to see him again. "Are you surprised I didn't bring it up?" She didn't want to bring it up because she didn't want to make him uncomfortable. "I just wanted you to know that I wanted to be with because you're a sweet guy not just a hero. Though I appreciate that as well"

"Lacrosse was always a big thing at my high school. Bigger than football. I guess that's slowly how it's getting around the country. I hear more about high schools being state champions for lacrosse now than anything else." Aubree said thoughtfully. She'd never been one of those girls who was overly athletic. She couldn't play just about every single sport out there. Lacrosse was sort of her niche she supposed. Of course, that didn't mean that she was dainty little girl who couldn't hold her own or anything. No. She definitely could. And she definitely caught some people off guard because of it. "Oh, so it's a date now?" She asked, her tone light and teasing. A small smile tugged at the corners of her lips.
Steve couldn't help chuckling. This was all going a lot better than he had honestly expected it to. "Should I take that as a compliment?" He asked, a slight grin on his face. "Kind of, yeah." He nodded. Most of the time, he couldn't go out in public anymore without at least one person recognizing him. It was something that he didn't think that he would ever fully get used to. "What happened before, with the cashier, I get that all the time now." He explained before smiling at her later words. "I appreciate that, Evelyn. I really do."

He nodded at her words, "interesting, you're going to have to show me how to play," he chuckled. He was semi athletic but didn't play many sports, not anymore, it's been too long and he kind of missed it. James could tell Aubree was someone who put all her energy into the thing she loved to do. Something he always admired about people, she didn't look like she played sports maybe because she wasn't overly built but he believed her when she said she did. He smirked, "only if you accept my proposal of course" then James winked at her. He remember the days when he asked ladies out and they would swoon over and say yes, something told him Aubree wasn't like that but he'd try to be smooth around her anyway.

Evelyn giggled and nodded, "oh definitely," his smile made her melt inside, it was contagious, she couldn't stop smiling. Evelyn didn't want to ruin a date by bringing something she already knew about up, she was interested in him, not his title. "I'm not surprised, I mean your face is everywhere and I know you're not used to that kind of thing like Tony Stark who seems to enjoy his spotlight" she chuckled. Evelyn smiled and nodded, "I think I'd be the same way if I was in your shoes, I'd be freaking out a little bit" she stared at him for a moment, "thank you for keeping me company, I'm not sure what I would be doing now" she said thoughtfully.

"That can probably be arranged." Aubree said, letting out a quiet laugh. She still didn't know why, but for some odd reason she felt comfortable around James. It was a strange, almost foreign, feeling to say the least, though she wasn't complaining about it by any means. "And if I don't accept your proposal?" She asked, raising an eyebrow, though a faint grin tugged at the corners of her lips. She wasn't one of those girls who giggled and swooned when a cute guy hit on her. She'd never been one of those girls. And even now, though she did think James was attractive, she wasn't about to start giggling like a little school girl.
"Tony's quite the character." Steve chuckled softly. And that was probably putting it in the nicest way possible. Not that he disliked the guy or anything. He could definitely see how he was Howard's son. He just didn't understand how most things seemed to be a joke to him. Maybe they just didn't quite see eye to eye. He didn't really know what it was. "Why are you thanking me?" He asked her curiously. He wanted to be there right now. He wasn't there just to do her a favor or anything. And he didn't think that she needed to thank him.

James chuckled, "good, because I need something to do on my free time" which he seemed to acquire quite a lot of it recently. He was surprised how comfortable he was with Aubree, he's always been comfortable around people but as of late he's been a mess. James was always so suspicious of people especially after the whole Hydra incident, he just wasn't trusting anyone. He looked at her and chuckled, "I guess I'm out of luck then huh?" he stared at her for a moment then looked forward.

Evelyn looked at her, "mostly for getting me out of my rut, you really put some perspective, you've helped me more than anyone else. Mostly because you had good intentions and you weren't faking it. You were real with me and I really appreciate that. Most people fake it just to pretend to care but I know you do care so " she stopped rambling and smiled softly. She bit her lip something she always did when she didn't know what to say or was too nervous to say what she was feeling. She wondered what they'd be doing next, they've walked and talked and at the moment they were having ice cream. "What would you like to do now? I kind of just finished my cone" she asked with a smile on her face.

"Too much free time on your hands?" Aubree asked curiously. She realized now that she'd been doing most of the answering today and he'd done a lot of the asking. She didn't really know that much about him, only the stuff that he'd mentioned earlier when they were at the diner. And some might say that that made her stupid for offering to let him hitch a ride with her. Considering she hardly knew him at all. But she didn't see it that way. He wasn't some creep. She didn't get any weird vibes coming from him. "Maybe you are. Maybe you aren't. We shall see." She said, grinning slightly as she focused her attention back on the road.
Steve smiled. "You looked like you could use someone to talk to you. I offered to help." He said simply, giving his shoulders a slight shrug as if to say that it was nothing or a no-brainer. He really didn't think it was much, though he'd always been a kind of modest person, and that hadn't really changed with time either. It was just who he was. And probably who he would always be. "Do you want to keep walking and if there's something that catches your eye we can stop? I'm up for anything really."

James chuckled, "since earlier this week," he wasn't sure how he was going to open up to Aubree without letting slip he was the Winter Solider, he didn't want to tell her that. He wasn't going to scare her off, he was enjoying her company. The only decent company he's had since Steve back in the 40's. Bucky was a very different person now than he was back then, he was sure that Steve knew that too, but knowing Steve he would probably search for him. Until the end of the line. He looked at Aubree and chuckled, "you don't give out straight answers do you?"

Evelyn smiled and nodded, he was really sweet and she just wanted to spend as much time with him as she could get, she got up and threw away her trash. Turning around and nodded, "sure, that sounds good, maybe you can tell me what you think of our modern era," she teased. Evelyn watched him get up, "do you like it?" she asked as they started walking out the door.

[You did not just incorporate that line into your post...that line fucking kills me. And there's so many edits on tumblr with it too Cry]

"And not so much before this week?" Aubree asked curiously. She knew that she was sort of fishing for information here, but who could really blame her? She knew next to nothing about James other than his name and the fact that he'd served two rounds in the army. And she knew that she wasn't exactly being subtle, but she figured that it was only fair considering she let him ask her questions. And she was doing him a favor, letting him hitch a ride with her and all, so it really was only fair. That's how she saw it anyway. "Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't." She said, letting out a soft laugh.
Steve chuckled softly at her words as he stood up, throwing away his trash before he headed over to the door. "Yes and no. It's different, and it's taken a lot of getting used to, but I think I'm starting to catch up on everything that I've missed." He told her as he pushed opened the door and motioned for her to walk out first. "Some things are better than they used to be. A lot of things actually. The food's definitely better. The internet's really helpful. Like I said, it's different."

[I just did. >_< i know it totally kills me too. Every time.]

James cleared his throat, "I've been rather busy with some people I was stationed at, they finally let leave" he said vaguely. He knew she wanted to know something about him, but what could he possibly tell her without spilling the beans. "I just came back from Europe a couple of years ago, its nice to be home, so taking in the scenery is something I want to do, I've missed quite a bit" he smiled and chuckled, felt like she was the teasing type but wasn't going to mention that to her. "You know it's been awhile since I've been on a real date," he chuckled.

Evelyn smiled as she walked out first and waited for him nodding "I guess that 's true, you're a lover of food are you? I am. I'm tiny but I can eat" she laughed as they walked. She sighed softly and looked forward, "I especially love cheese so when I get the chance I make fondue or like chocolate fondue it's the best, but I have to watch my weight so I take the left overs to my co-workers," she shook her head. Evelyn hadn't felt so comfortable with a guy in ages, last time she was on a date all he was trying to do was feel her up. It was disgusting.

Aubree nodded. "And now you have an endless amount of time on your hands." Something told her that she wouldn't be getting much of anything else out of him. And that was okay. Sure, she would like to know more, but it wasn't like she'd told him everything about her life either. They hardly knew each other. She was sure that that was to be expected. "Including riding roller coasters?" She asked, letting out a quiet laugh. "That makes two of us." It wasn't like she stayed in one place long enough to meet someone. And, even so, she wasn't one of those girls who went on dates constantly back in high school either.
"We used to boil everything. I much prefer how everything's cooked now. Tastes a lot better." Steve told her as he followed her out of the ice cream parlor. He couldn't help chuckling when she started talking about fondue. How ironic. "You know, there was a time when I didn't know what fondue was. I kind of assumed it was a slang term or something. I don't know." He admitted. He felt like he could be open with her. And he couldn't really remember the last time, other than with Sam on occasion, when he really talked about his past like this.

James nodded, "exactly, I'm sure I'll find something to keep me preoccupied" He looked at her for a moment and wondered where their first stop would be, he wasn't going to pressure her or anything he was just curious. "Well, when I was younger I was terrified, so it never really crossed my mind after I join the military" he had to come up with a story before she became more suspicious. James knew he couldn't possibly put up with this charade for much longer. James sighed softly, "European girls are not my thing either, they're a little too... uh out there" he laughed.

Evenly stared at him for a moment, "Oh, I'm sure true, I mean the only thing boiled I would eat is eggs but even then I put salt, because salt is everything" she laughed, "unless you over salt everything, then it's just gross," Evelyn giggled, "fondue slang that's funny, that's okay... we have some weird slang nowadays too," she looked around staring at people, couples and she smiled, Evelyn felt alive for the first time in almost two years,. It was nice, "so what else do you enjoy? are you into sports? I'm like a stick I don't do sports, I do however love swimming so I try to go to the beach every so often"

"There's pretty much an endless number of opportunities in the world, so I'm sure it won't take you too long to find something to occupy your time with." Aubree said. She knew the whole 'endless opportunity' line was a bit cliche, but it was true. If you really looked at what the world had to offer, there was a long, practically endless, list of opportunities for a person. She laughed softly. "And out there isn't your type?" She asked, her tone teasing once again.
Steve chuckled. He was aware of a few slang terms that he was sure she was referring to. Like he'd said before, things were really different now. He'd gotten used to a lot of it, though he was still getting the hang of some of it. "I really didn't have much experience with talking to women back then, and I honestly don't now either." He admitted. "I'm actually kind of surprised that I haven't said something stupid or just made things extremely awkward." A sheepish smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "I was never really the star athlete I guess you could say, I used to have really bad asthma, so I wasn't really into sports. I liked baseball, though I didn't play or anything. I would go to a game sometimes, or listen to it on the radio with Bucky." He sort of tensed up when he realized that he'd mentioned his friend. He hadn't even thought twice about it.

James sighed softly and looked at Aubree, "That's true, " he laughed, "well, it's not that, it's just they're too much for me" he thought about the endless counts of dates he had to turn down because they were a little strange. Not the that's kind of cute strange, the really weird strange. He shook his head and looked at his arm, wondering if he should show Aubree his arm, would that give it away or not? maybe he should cover up the red star. He sighed softly, "what about you what's your type?"

Evelyn smiled she was enjoying getting to know Steve, "there's nothing you could say that will have be running for the hills" she teased, "I'm a pretty awkward person so maybe that's why you haven't said anything weird yet," she nodded when she listened to him talk about sports. "that's okay I was never really into the athletic type anyway, I was the nerdy girl in high school who was in the book and foreign language clubs, I would sit in the library on my free time, studying and being a good student" she laughed. "I'd get picked on all the time, I used to have braces and my parents weren't exactly rich so my clothes weren't very up to date, but I didn't care" she sighed softly. "My grades let me skip a grade and start early on college admissions so I'm proud of myself for that"Evelyn looked at Steve, "are you okay? you seem a little tense?"

"I guess that's understandable. We all have our limits." Aubree said, giving her shoulders a slight shrug. There was just a certain point where, if it was crossed, people just came off too strong or were just too weird. Of course, no one was really quote unquote "normal" anymore, although some still believed that they were, and no one was exactly perfect, but there were just some people who surpassed any and all limitations. "My type? I dunno really. In high school, I went through this phase where I only dated "bad boys" as my friends put it. I grew out of that pretty fast though." She laughed softly. "But now, I really don't know if I have a type or not. I know that supposedly everyone does, but so long as they pass my mental checklist, I'm not exactly looking for anything too specific."
Steve chuckled. "That's good to know." He said. "Until the whole serum thing, I was pretty much always sick. I had so many different health conditions, and it all honestly used to frustrate me. Especially when it all got in the way of me being able to enlist." He hadn't really talked to anyone about his past in-depth like this. He felt like he could with Evelyn though. He just felt comfortable around her. "I used to get picked on a lot too. If Brooklyn still looked similar enough to how it used to, I could probably point out several different alleyways I got beat up in." He admitted sheepishly. "Yeah, I'm fine...I just mentioned someone who I don't really talk about too much anymore." He still felt weird mentioning Bucky, especially now that he knew that he was actually alive and well. Well, as well as he could be after what Zola and Hydra had done to him. He refused to believe that his best friend wasn't still in there somewhere though.

He nodded and closed his eyes, "yes, we do and I've got quite a few" he chuckled as he listened to her, "do you mind if we stop somewhere, I might have to buy some water soon, and use the bathroom" he laughed. James listened to Aubree, she seemed like a very interesting person, someone who you'd have to get to know before she shared anything personal with you. She seemed kind of guarded but he didn't mind, he was the same way, after all that's happened. "Bad boys eh? what if I told you I was one, would you believe me? be honest" James thought about the way he was in the 40's very out there and all about having a good time and going out every other night. Funny how one bad experience could change your whole perspective about people and your surroundings.

Evelyn smiled brightly at Steve, it was nice that he was comfortable enough with her to tell her all of this, "oh man that's such a bummer, people can be so cruel, you know what really frustrates me is that, when I grew into my "looks" people started treating me different. I turned them all down, I wasn't going to date someone who didn't want anything to do with me before I looked hot or whatever they call me. I don't like shallow people or bullies." she understood though. "I just don't deal with those people," she bit her lip when he told her why he was all tense and nodded, "oh okay, well, we don't have to talk about that person, I don't want you to feel obligated to anything" Evelyn told him. She hadn't noticed how far or how long they've been walking but she didn't really care, she wanted this to last. Actually Evelyn hasn't been on a date where she talked, honestly most of them involved making out in a room like teenagers. It was nice talking and getting to know someone.

Aubree nodded. "Yeah, of course." She said, figuring she'd get off at the next exit. There was always at least a gas station or something, no matter where you were. And she figured that she'd top off her tank anyway. She was at a little under three-quarters, but she never really liked letting it get below half. "No, probably not. Why?" She asked, glancing over to him. She figured that he had to be speaking hypothetically, though the question was honestly a bit strange.
"You're better off staying away from people like that." Steve said. He didn't like bullies either. He never had. And he also didn't think he would ever understand why people could be so shallow as to worry more about someone's looks than the person that they were inside. Of course, that hadn't exactly changed much overtime. Some people had been pretty shallow back in the forties too, although it seemed like even more people were like that now. "I don't feel obligated. It's just...complicated. I just--Bucky was my best friend. He was always there for me no matter what, and I thought I lost him."

James nodded, this would be a great time to gather some food and other stuff he might need. He also needed to stretch it felt like they've been driving for a couple of hours, he looked at her and shrugged, "just curious, and no I wasn't really the type" he chuckled, though now he would probably be considered dangerous.

She nodded, "people like that are poison, at least that's how I see it" Evelyn stopped for a moment and looked at Steve, he really looked bothered by this, he thought he lost him, so he's not... gone. she bit her lip,"I'm sorry to hear that, so he's still alive?" she asked quietly, while they continued walking.
