It was the last period of the day, meaning Pandora's favorite class, English. For the past couple of weeks, they had been reading Romeo and Juliet, which everyone bemoaned. They hated it, since everything had to be explained to them, but she felt like a literary flower flourishing under the tragic romance Shakespeare laid out in his play. But after their short discussion, their teacher, Mrs. Hart, announced that they would be partnered up for projects that were due the day of the big soccer game -the day after being the big dance. Since she definitely wasn't planning on going to that fiasco, Pan knew it wouldn't be a problem for her. But then she heard the name of her partner: the school's soccer star, Abel Romao. She wanted to slam her head against the desk at the same time a few girls gave her dirty looks. He wasn't going to be any help whatsoever in her project, if she knew how this was going to go. So after Mrs. Hart assigned everyone their partners and told them to discuss what they were going to do, Pan quickly jogged up to her teacher's desk. After a brief, but disappointing conversation, she learned that she was stuck with Abel. And so... Pan slinked back to her desk.

Abel groaned audibly when the teacher announced that the project --- worth over 10% of their final grade -- was due the day of his game. There was no way there would be time for him to work on it, with practices doubling and the celebratory dance being the night before. Ms. Vance had never really cared about extracurricular activities anyway, so it went to reason that she would be just as heartless about this, even though the whole school was getting excited for it.

But he was somewhat happy to hear that Pandora Sisk was his partner. She was just the type to want to work on these silly projects, even if she was a bit odd, with her multicoloured hair that Abel would never admit to thinking pretty. After class, he went up to her desk and gave her one of his charming smiles. "Your number, please?"

Pandora was gathering her things to leave when she suddenly found the soccer star at her desk. "Sorry, I don't have a phone," she shrugged. "I can give you a house phone number, but chances are one of my brothers or my mom will be on it, so I won't be able to get to it." Sadly enough, this wasn't a lie. She finished packing up her things, shoving them in her bag that no one really approved of. She knew why, since everyone could see the words 'pull out your teeth' and see teeth aligned at the bottom, but it was actually pretty sturdy, and she thought it was amazing. "Look, I know you're a big soccer star... you probably have extra practices. We can meet up before school in the mornings, in the afternoon when you don't have practices, or after practice if we really need to, just whenever there's time. I refuse to do all the work." This time it was Pan's turn to give him a charming smile. "Just let me know where and what time. I have my own ride at least, so it won't be a problem."

Taken aback, Abel scoffed and said, "I was fully planning on doing my share. I know I've got soccer coming up, but seriously? We can start this weekend, I have Sunday off, if you're free." He readjusted his backpack. "Public library at one. Maybe we'll get it all done, hm?"
It was strange for his smile and charm to not work, but he supposed that there would always be an exception. In any case, he now had to give a real effort in the project, but maybe they would just get it done quickly and hopefully painlessly.

"Maybe," Pandora agreed, "if you want a C. It's going to take a teency bit more than that to get a good grade. But the public library works. I'll meet you there," she agreed with a small nod. At least now she was assured he was going to help on the project at least. "See you Sunday then." Not wanting to end up behind the buses, Pan headed off out of the classroom to walk to the student parking lot while already trying to figure out what she wanted to do for the project. One of the easier ones would be to act out a scene. That wouldn't require a lot of work... they could scrounge up some costumes, and she'd have to hound on him to make sure he memorized his lines, but that would be it...

"See you." Abel stared after Pandora as she left, wondering what he had done to make her hate him so much. He couldn't think of anything, really... Except that one time freshman year that he forgot her name, but that was when she had some new crazy haircut. As far as he could remember, that was the only thing that he would consider worthy of being upset about. For the most part, he ignored her and the rest of her friends. He mainly stuck to the rest of the guys on the soccer team and the few people that hung around them and went to their parties.

After school was practice, and Abel didn't care one bit about the project. He was far more interested in the game, and he had no trouble keeping his head in practice. In fact, he didn't give it any thought the whole weekend, between practices and parties, until he woke up at noon on Sunday, and rushed to the library.

Pandora didn't hate him; she just didn't care for him. To her, most of the jocks and cheerleaders seemed to be the same. Some of the girls tried talking to her, but it all just felt like fake conversation, even when they were in groups, and she'd just grown sick of it over the years. She didn't need -or want- their approval. She was herself, and she made sure they all knew it with the crazy stuff she did.

But Sunday came around pretty quickly, she she headed to the library early. She went ahead and got out Romeo and Juliet, sitting at the table and flipping through the pages as she tried to think of a scene they could do for their project. Part of her wanted one of the fighting scenes, one that maybe ended with death, but those generally involved more than one people and more violence that what an english class constituted. Most of the scenes that were two people alone were Romeo and Juliet themselves, though. In the end, she decided to just wait on her partner so they could decide what to do, and headed back into the books to browse until one when he was supposed to show up.

Abel parked his car, grabbed his bag, and rushed into the library. He checked the small meeting rooms, but upon not finding Pandora, he was at a loss of what to do. He checked his watch, finding that he still had a few minutes before two. So he set his bag down and pulled out Romeo and Juliet, a notebook, a pencil, and the assignment sheet. He read through the qualifications again, trying to think of something impressive. Not even impressive, really, just something that Pandora might take into thought so he didn't seem like a total sport-head to her.

(sorry! My alerts page doesn't show me half the alerts its supposed to Facepalm and sorry mibba deleted your reply!)

At around one, Pandora had peeked out of the bookcases for Abel, and then again at about 1:30. The guy had set the time himself, and he couldn't bother to be on time? After that, she ended up finding something she was interested in, and sat down with it among the bookcases for a while. By the time she looked up, it was about ten minutes after two, and she decided she would check out the book she had and then head home. She was surprised to come out of hiding and find Abel sitting at a table with a book and the assignment sheet though. She shook her head, heading to get her stuff and move it over to the table he was at. "You know you're an hour late, right? I was about to just leave," she said by way of greeting as she plopped down in a chair across from him. "Glad to see you're interested in the project though..." Unfortunately for about anyone who didn't understand sarcasm, it was like a second language to her.

Abel blushed slightly. "I know, I'm sorry. My alarm didn't go off this morning, and I had to get some stuff done before I came here. I, um, was just looking through the project sheet again... I kind of like the idea of rewriting a scene to make it less tragic? I don't have much experience with playwriting, but I have kind of an idea for a few scenes..." he trailed off. "I really feel bad about getting here late. I honestly didn't mean to." Being late was something Abel couldn't handle well. He was always on time for practices, and it irked him when other people couldn't manage to get there on time, because their excuses were usually trash anyway. His life was dedicated to soccer, and he had a hard time being okay with people not treating it as equally important.

Pandora really wanted to be peeved, but the fact that he kept going back to it sort of told her he was either trying to play her into thinking he was really sorry... or he actually was that sorry. She wasn't sure which, but she just didn't feel like playing it all out in her head and sorting through it until she figured it out, plus that was just exhausting mentally, so she decided she was just going to let it go. "Okay, let's leave your tardiness alone for the moment..." she leaned forward, propping her elbows on the table. "I'm curious about your idea. I thought we'd go with something easy that included minimal work though. You have soccer and that dance to worry about... we have the option of acting out a scene. I could scrounge up costumes, and as long as you learned your lines, without a sheet of paper in front of you, we would get an A. But I'm interested in your idea, like I said, so... please talk."

Abel was stung slightly by the tardiness comment, but let it go. It was his own fault after all. "I mean, we would have to do a minimum of three pages, so I was thinking maybe the part where Mercutio dies? It would be a lot of work though..." he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "How much would we have to do for your idea? That might take less time than rewriting the scene. But I don't want you to end up doing all the work, either."

Pandora nodded as she listened. She really was surprised, but it wasn't a bad idea. "Well... we would need to choose a scene, between two people preferably, then scrounge up some costumes and learn our lines. I mean memorization, not writing them down to look at, too. I thought it would be easiest on you, with how your schedule is on the moment, and it seems pretty fun." By now, pretty much everyone knew how Pan was. She was always volunteering to read, and she made it sound animated rather than monotone. She was curious to try her hand at something like standing up in front of the class and acting out a scene. "I think we should do a scene everyone knows though. Like... 'Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art though my Romeo?'" She'd raised her voice, and pressed a hand over her heart, looking very dramatic.

Abel cocked his head at Pandora's demonstration. He wasn't quite sure what to make of her; she always took things far more seriously than anyone else in the class did. "So... how much of that would we have to do? 'Cause if it's a lot, we'd have to start learning lines today." He wasn't really looking forward to acting out a scene in front of everyone, but if it was less work, he would definitely go for it.

Pandora shrugged a little. "We can start learning lines today anyway. Since I'm fairly sure you'll be busy most of next week anyway. "Friday's the dance and Saturday the big game right? That means since today is Sunday... we have approximately five days to learn the lines." She paused, watching for a moment for his reaction. "Anyway, we can do whatever scene we want. I think we should do one of the more well-known scenes though, so we don't put everyone else to sleep." She personally thought acting out a scene would be fun, and she knew she'd have those lines memorized well before Friday. Besides, what else did she have to do, besides various other homework? Since she wasn't in guy's soccer and didn't care about it, she didn't have any worries there. Since she didn't plan on even thinking about going to that dance, she wouldn't be prepping for it like most other girls were.

"Shit," Abel swore. "That's not a lot of time at all..." He quietly damned the teacher for not even considering extracurriculars. "Just one scene? Let's find a short one," he said, flipping through his book. "So you do anything fun this weekend?" Abel asked innocently, not exactly sure of what he was expecting. He didn't know much about Pandora, besides that they had English together and she didn't hang out with the same people as him.

Pandora started to flip through her book as well, in search of a scene for them to look through. While he started at the front though, she started at the back, so they weren't covering the same ground at the same time. Flipping through the play, she hardly heard his question. "Hmm? Fun?" she paused, her eyebrows knitting together, and then shrugged. "I took care of my little brothers yesterday while my parents went out on a 'date'. That was pretty fun, I guess." It was fun because they ordered pizza and played video games and drank lots of caffeine, mainly. Then around twelve, the boys crashed and she could do what she wanted for the rest of the night. "How 'bout you, mister soccer star? You do anything fun?" She kept an ear out for his answer as she turned back to Romeo and Juliet.

"Aha!" She grinned as she looked up at Abel. "I think we should do the scene where Romeo finds Juliet in the crypt, kills himself, and then she wakes up to him being dead. If we only encompass that, it's two people. It has quite a bit of dialogue... though most of it is Juliet."

((I am so sorry, I started a new job and had a week of training. I should be able to reply regularly now though.))

Abel shrugged at Pandora's question. "Yeah, just the normal. It was alright." He chose to leave out the details, which included three different parties, and getting blackout drunk on Friday. It wasn't a common occurence, just every once in a while when he worked too hard the day before at practice.

"Sure," Abel said. "Are you good with having that much to memorize?" he asked, not wanting her to do more than her fair share.

(Haha no problem ^-^ I'm not going to be exactly regular for a couple of weekends.. my dad's birthday was this past weekend, my mom's is next weekend -since they are four years and six days apart in age, literally- and my sister is getting her tonsils out Wednesday, not to mention her friend is coming to visit the last week of this month probably XD then a couple of weeks after that is when school starts. So... once I get in a groove at school is when things will even out... but we just moved about a month ago, six hours away from where we previously lived. So... it's pretty bad)

Pandora shrugged. She really didn't care about the details anyway. She had ears, so she knew what tended to go on during the weekends, and had no doubts that he partook in at least some of the parties. What he did with his weekends was his business though, and she really didn't care.

"I'll have it all memorized by Tuesday," she told him, sure of her ability to have it done by then. "Which is when we should probably meet again... I'll want to check up on how you're doing with memorizing the lines, plus we need to consider what we're going to wear for it. I'm all for throwing together some costumes, just something... and there should be some stuff we can use in my house's attic... but I don't know how you feel about that, or if you have the time."
