I felt my heart in my stomach and my stomach in my feet, and the rest of me doing whatever it felt like. I had made the biggest decision of my life just now, and now I was getting ready to deal with it. In a few days time- exactly 5 days- I was getting married to a complete stranger. He was apparently my perfect match or we were extremely compatible... I didn't know anymore.
When I agreed to be a part of this social experiment I wasnt sure what I was getting myself into. Now I still wasn't sure. But of the hundreds of people they had interviewed, they were able to find a match for me.
And Marissa, interestingly enough. The two of us would get married within hours of each other, and we had to use these next few days to find a dress and meet with our wedding planners. But I felt my nerves with every step I took.
Marissa sighed a little as she licked her lips looking at her phone, they'd found her match. This was unbelievable. She never thought that would happen, this experiment was something Jazmin had told her about, once she'd done more research on it she agreed to go with her to fill out the paper work to join. It was a small processing fee of fifty dollars but she figured it was well worth it.
"Are you sure this is safe?" she asked Jazmin, "What if they serial killers or something," she whispered as she chewed on her bottom lip nervously. "How do we know we're safe? I'm too young to die," she pouted as she looked at her. Marissa had long burgundy hair that stopped at her waist, she was short - her stature was four feet and eleven inches, much shorter than most girls her age. Her skin was quite fair which was something she had to work for since she seemed to be tanning quite easily these days - and she felt the tan on her skin made it feel dry or look dirty. Her eyes were a mix of green and blue that matched everything about her features.
"Jazmin we could die.... seriously, maybe this wasn't a good idea," she said as she bit her lip.
I rolled my eyes. "You know it isn't fake, these people are actual professionals. And, they're making it into a tv series. That's nerves talking." I shook my head. It wasn't like nerves weren't what was going through my head. While I knew it wasnt a serial killer or anything like that, I was afraid that it wouldn't work out... that we would end up divorcing at the end of the month in a half.
She nodded,"I know, I know but still. I have to find a dress and... ugh I'm so nervous I could throw up," she murmured, "A real person is going to marry me,' she nodded, "Awesome, now how do you take care of husbands, do they eat? Do I have to walk him, how often does he need pets?" she joked lightly with her inexperience with me.
I nodded. "I know. I'm absolutely terrified too, we're going to marry complete strangers." I shook my head. "Come on, that's why we're here, to look at dresses. So lets go look, remember we need wedding and bridesmaid dresses," I added as we walked.
"I wonder what he's like. If he's patient, kind, handsome... intelligent...?" I asked, my mind going in circles as we walked to the entrance of the bridal shop.
She nodded a little as she looked at all the dresses lining the room,"Alright, uhm I dont know if he is your match then surely he is all those things," she said to her lightly as she licked over her lips lightly, her hands were still shaking.
Just glancing at her from the corner of my eyes I could see her shaking. I turned to her and took her hands, squeezing them. "I'm nervous, believe me I know. But you can't let yourself fall apart. On the other side, they're freaking out too." I grabbed a random dress and handed it to her. "Here, do you want to try dresses first or should we do it together?"
I nodded and grabbed a dress, pulling us over to the dressing rooms. "You change and so will I, and we'll come out together. Alright?" I asked, trying to be brave for her, when I was anything but.
She nodded a little and smiled as she walked into the dressingroom then pulled it on then asked for help having it buttoned up in the back,"Holy cow," she murmured softly as she looked at her reflection. "Jazmin.."
I walked out, looking at my own dress in the reflection. "This is the one. I know it." I said knowingly. I turned around, looking at it from all angles. My mother had told me that I would know when I found the one. This was it.
I nodded a little, walking out of the room to show her my dress. "What do you think?" I asked, hopefully. I really liked it, I hope she thought it was nice too. I looked at her dress and gasped. "Marissa, you look amazing." I said to her. "I think you should get it."
"Oh it's perfect," she saw as she walked over to her smiling, "I like this one a lot," she smiled a bit as she looked at her, "Are we really doing this?"
I nodded. "This is a really big opportunity. Hopefully it works. And the experts seemed pretty sure on our matches." I looked in the mirror. I felt like a princess in the gown.
I nodded. "We pick out our own rings and get them sized... Bridesmaid dresses, and then we meet with the wedding planner to takes care of everything else." I said, looking at my reflection. "I'm scared... I think I look beautiful, but what if he doesn't think the same?"
"Then he is an idiot," she smiled a little as she looked at her then touched her arm lightly before sighing, "So bridesmaids dresses, what you can pick it out since you WILL be a bridesmaid," she grinned.
I nodded a little and smiled. "Yes, and you can pick out your own as well. What colors should we pick? And the menu and everything? We need to go to the planner as soon as we're finished."
