Only Love Can Hurt Like This

Jessie watched the clock as the minutes ticked by, any minute she was due to clock off from work. As soon as her boss gave her the okay, Jessie would be heading up to the Thomas's house as their granddaughter, Kali would be arriving that day. Jessie had met Kali through her grandparents, she couldn't remember exactly how they met but they had been firm friends since. The clock hit two (she had been at the bar since 6) and Jessie hurried past her work colleagues grabbing her stuff and heading for her car.

Zacky opened another box labelled kitchen, he didn't realize he had so much stuff. After a recent break up, Zacky decided it was time for a move and made the move up to a quieter part of town. He was still trying to unpack a week after he had moved in, some of the guys were going to be coming round for a bbq settling in party thing but Zacky was nowhere near ready. Admittedly Zacky had been enjoying his time off but this stuff had to get done, grabbing his phone Zacky sent a text to Matt asking if he could leaned a hand.

Matt arms burned as he pushed himself further, he'd been missing his work out since he'd been on tour. It was a change being able to actually work out with out having to hurry. Sighing he dropped the barbell back down into it's sheathing. Moving carefully from under the bar he grabbed his sweat towel and wiped his face. Stretching he decided that it was time for a shower, moving through his house he made his way to his bedroom. A soft melody started chiming from his pocket, sighing he fished it out, looking over the text. Rolling his eyes, leave it to Zack to host a party and not even be prepared. Shaking his head he text back letting his friend know he'd be by in a few, but first he really needed a shower.

Kali huffed pushing the food around on her plate, her grandmother's scrutinizing eyes watched her like a fox. She knew her family meant well but she just wasn't hungry. It had been over two years since she'd had a battle with anorexia. And now she was growing tired of people badgering her. Sighing she placed her fork down, before looking up to meet her grandfather's sad eyes. "I'm not hungry." She told him, he was always easier to talk to. "I ate on the plane." She added, knowing that would at least keep her grandmother off her back. Beside being jet lagged didn't help her appetite any better. Though something her family didn't get was that she hadn't stopped eating it was just her excessive work out that caused her malnutrition, and the fact her intake of food didn't increase either. Swiftly standing from the table she placed a kiss to her grandmothers forehead. "I'm going to go get ready." She informed them before grabbing her plate and taking it to the kitchen.

Jessie drove through the California traffic and finally down a familiar street. As she parked the car she noticed that a car in the driveway next to the Thomas looked like someone else car she knew. Shaking off her thoughts, Jessie got out of the car and headed up to the front door of the house, she rang the bell and waited. As she waited she kept glancing over to the next house, she would have to ask if they had got new neighbors.

Zacky sent Matt a quick thanks and that he would see him soon. Zacky finished unpacking the box of kitchen stuff before moving into another labelled living room. Zacky then had a thought, he hadn't invited everyone he intended, of course the guys and their significant others were coming but Zacky promised to invited Jessie a friend of the bands. Pulling out his phone once again Zacky sent a quick text to Jessie telling her about the BBQ later on that day.

Matt stepped from the shower quickly drying off, he didn't bother with picking clothing that matched. Never had he given a shit, not to mention all his clothing matched. Slipping his sleeveless G'N'R shirt over his head, he rolled his shoulder. He might have over done it with the work out. Shrugging he finished dressing then grabbed his cell and keys, and made quick work of getting to Zack's new place.

Kali heard the tapping on the door as she trailed down the stairs. A huge smile spread on her face knowing exactly who would be on the other side of the wood. Bounding down the rest of the stairs she hurried to the door, pulling it open. Her smile increased as her eyes fell onto her brunette friend. "Jessie!" She nearly shrieked, engulfing her in a hug. "Oh my god." She giggled so excited that she'd finally seen her life long friend.

Jessie grinned as Kali engulfed her into a hug, it had been too long. "It's been far too long," responded Jessie, "Hey quick question? Have you grands got a new neighbor?" Just asked Jessie asked the question she felt a vibration in her pocket. Slipping her phone out she checked the text and it was from Zacky telling her about his BBQ, however there was no address. Jessie sent a quick text back before returning her attention back to her friend.

Zacky was trying to burn through the boxes as fast as could but they seemed endless. Zacky checked his phone for the time and saw another text from Jessie and he quickly replied with his address and he packed down another empty box. Zacky headed into the kitchen to grab a drink when he heard a car engine, heading to the front of his house Zacky assumed it was Matt.

Matt pulled up out side Zack's new place. His brow furrowed, he didn't think Zack would live in a place like this. He's friend had to be out of his mind. Zack was an over the top bastard and this small house wasn't his friend at all. Sighing he figured it was the best he could do on such short notice, shrugging he exited the car.

Kali looked at Jessie, she shrugged. "I don't know." She chuckled, "hell nobody should live in that house." She laughed. The place had seen hundreds of people in a years time. They never stayed long, it was as if the house was just a loner. They'd stay there for a while before they moved to better, or in a few cases jail. "They won't be there long." She rolled her eyes, she never bother to get to know her grandparents neighbors.

Jessie smirked at her friends answered as she pulled out her phone and saw the text from Zacky. "Well you might change your mind once you've met them," suggested Jessie as she slipped her phone back into her pocket, "Come on, you've got to meet them, you know friendly neighbor and all." Jessie then gently tugged her friends hand as she made her way out of the door.

Zacky opened his door to welcome Matt, he then saw his friend's look on his face. "What's wrong? It's only temporary, you know how the market is man," explained Zacky as he welcomed Matt with a hug. In all honesty Zacky just wanted a place to rest his head for a couple of months, he'd move if he found something that he liked but as of right now he was staying put.

Matt chuckled shaking his head, "you know you could have stayed with me." He said. The place wasn't bad looking, it just wasn't Zack. And from the looks of the front yard it was kept well taken care of, it was just more of a small family home. The only good thing about it was Zack said it had a pool, but most California homes have pools.

"Jessie!" Kali exclaimed in a loud groan. She didn't want her friend dragging her all over gods green earth. And beside she never liked meeting Jessie's friends. Most of them were drooling sleazeballs she's had to knock on their ass a time or two. Frowning she slowly followed her friend out onto the deck of the porch. Stopping she watched as her friend bound over to a couple of guys standing in the yard next door.

"Hey neighbour," grinned Jessie as she entered the yard where Matt and Zacky were. "So this is your new place Zacky? Next to Kali's grandparents?" Jessie smirked as she glanced over to Kali who was waiting outside of the yard. "Kali, come here!" Jessie then turned to face Zacky and Matt with a wide smile.

Zacky was about to respond when he saw his friend Jessie enter his yard, he had just finished texting her. "How on earth did you get here so quickly?" Zacky watched as Jessie indicated to the blonde waiting outside the yard.

Matt's eyes mulled over Jessie's body, he'd always had a thing for her somethings about her draws him in. His eyes lifted to her friends, not really caring much for blondes.

Kali nibbled on her lip as she walked over, her hands tucked in the back pockets of her jeans. Her eyes trailed on the ground, before slowly lifting to Jessie. Her eyes slightly widening as she noticed the men standing with Jessie. Gulping she sighed, trying to rein in her anxiety.

"I take it it your here because Zacky needs help setting up for the BBQ," Jessie said directing her question to Matt. She couldn't help but admire Matt's arms in his sleeveless top. Jessie quickly turned to Kali to see if she was okay. "These guys are lovely," assured Jessie, she wanted her friend to feel comfortable around Matt and Zacky.

Zacky offered Jessie's friend a soft smile, she seemed a bit nervous. "I'm Zacky and this Matt, pleased to meet you," smiled Zacky.

Matt let out a laughed, he wrapped his arm around Jessie's shoulder. "You know Zack." He teased his friend, leaning his body lightly against her body. "Can you believe he wants to have a barbeque and isn't even unpacked yet?"

Kali looked up at Zacky through her lashes. "Kali." She said softly, her eyes trailed over to Matt, though he didn't seem to keen on talking to anyone but Jessie. Smirking she turned her attention back to Zack.

Jessie leaned gentle against Matt, they always had a comfortable friendship. "That doesn't surprise me, we can help if you want?" Offered Jessie, she then glanced at Kali. "I mean I can for sure."

"Kali," repeated Zacky, it suited her as Zacky glanced at Kali. "I mean if you want to help that be great." Zacky shrugged, any help would be great.

Matt smirked over at Zacky shaking his head. "Got some nerve." He chuckled. Smiling down at Jessie, he shook his head. "Come on, let's get this over with." He said, steering Jessie into Zacky's house.

Kali shrugged, it wasn't like she had anything to do today anyways. Biting her lip she slowly trailed inside after Jessie and Matt. She didn't feel right about trasping into some random person's house. Though she felt more relaxed than the last time she wandered into somebodies house with Jessie.

Jessie entered the house and was not surprised by the lack of progress Zacky had made. "Me and Kali will tackling the kitchen then," sighed Jessie, " you and Zacky can deal with like the BBQ area since Zacky is going to need it later." Jessie then gentle broke away from Matt and headed into the kitchen. Jessie wanted to get this done and dusted so she could spend time with Kali.

Zacky laughed a little as Jessie headed straight into his kitchen, he excepted nothing more from Jessie. Zacky couldn't help but notice Matt and the way he was with Jessie, he didn't say anything not yet. "I guess we have been sentenced to the back yard," chuckled Zacky.

Matt chuckled shaking his head. "I guess we are." He sighed before trailing out to the back of the house. "Wow, you said it had a pool." He chuckled, staring out into the water of the pool. The pool itself took up almost all of the backyard. There was a small patch work of grass, then a cement patio where the grill would sit.

Kali followed Jessie into the kitchen, "wow." She said looking around, her as she entered the kitchen. It wasn't what she expected. It was nicer than what her grandparents had. "I guess this is what keeps this place selling." She chuckled. She grabbed a box and started to unload it. From the looks of the plates and silverware this Zacky guy had expensive taste.

"Yes, I think it does," laughed Jessie as she grabbed a box and began to unpack it, "yeah Zacky is having a BBQ tonight, do you wanna go?" Brooke asked she felt a little guilty dragging her friend into Zacky's house but then again Jessie was more of an act and think later girl.

Zacky smirked he knew Matt would be eating at his words about the house. "See it's a nice place after all," chuckled Zacky as he went over to his garage where he had put the BBQ. "So like I know you and Jessie have been comfortable say," began Zacky, "but do you have a thing for her?" Zacky introduced Jessie to the guys and he was always a little cautious as Jessie was like a sister to him.

Kali looked up at Jessie, "well I am helping, the least he could do is feed me." She teased her friend, trying to bite back her grin. "So how do you know them?" She asked grabbing another box and unpacking it. She really didn't know where he wanted things to go, but she'd give him a tour later if she had to.

Matt looked up at Zack, a frown forming on his face. "What's that got to do with anything?" He asked, "she's just a friend." He said, before moving into the garage. He didn't like Zack digging into his personal life. Normally he wouldn't mind but he knew Zacky's ties with Jessie.
